The honor of leading the first pledge was given to Corey Beekman, a U.S. Army National Guard combat veteran who traveled to Capitol Hill at the invitation of his congressman, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

...

In 2019, Beekman allegedly shot and killed 33-year old Billy Buchanan inside a home in rural Mason County, Michigan, and was arrested by police after a lengthy standoff. He was later charged with murder, but his case still has not yet gone to trial, and he moved to Florida.

What’s the Department of Justice for the Philippines got to do with anything?

Well apparently, it is another data point that Rebekah Jones is crazy as a shithouse rat.  She seems to be on the correct side of things but I guess us "leftists" get some fuckin crazies too.

Fuck Merrick Garland and fuck the DOJ: https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/15/politics/matt-gaetz-justice-department/index.html

Quote

The Justice Department has informed lawyers for at least one witness that it will not bring charges against Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz after a years-long federal sex-trafficking investigation, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Senior officials reached out to lawyers for at least one witness on Wednesday, the source tells CNN, to inform them of the decision not to prosecute Gaetz.

The final decision was made by Department of Justice leadership after investigators recommended against charges last year.

This story is breaking and will be updated.

Wouldn’t shock me if Gaetz has become an informant to the DOJ which could explain why he hasn’t been charged with crimes.

He hasn't been charged with crimes because DOJ lawyers are terrified of prosecuting someone who can afford a defense attorney.

That's just dumb.

People have gotten in the really bad habit of assuming that shit they read on twitter or other dubious sources constitutes admissible and credible evidence of a crime.

We'd all love to believe that Gaetz is a total pedo perv degenerat and maybe he really is, but that doesn't mean there's real evidence he committed a federal crime.

Aren't there Venmo payments to his friend who arranged underaged escorts (and has pled guilty for such conduct) with messages that are barely-coded versions of like "$XX for Jessica (17 year old)"?

Don’t we have both his Venmo receipts for payment to an underage girl and the testimony of his friend who himself was convicted of trafficking underage girls, or something like that? And by “we” I mean the DOJ.

So you're saying it's OK to use Venmo to pay underage girls for sex ...

I don't know, do we?  You kind of answered your own question on the testimony of convicted sex trafficker.  Who knows what the recipients of the venmo transfers said they were for.

Legal reporting is often trash.  Even if it isn't trash, it's often over-optimistic as to whether the reported "facts" are really factual and credible evidence of a crime.

If only half of what’s been reported is true then it’s still pretty damning. Maybe legal reporting is often trash. But it also looks like the legal system under Merrick Garland is often trash.

Damning is one thing.  An actual crime is another.  He seems to be quite a piece of shit.

Our legal system has plenty of problems, no doubt, but I don't think Merrick Garland is really one of them.

People are just pissed because why not done on things they really don't actually understand.

Going back to this, just for a second, I can't help but wonder what It's like to be a titan in your field (economics, foreign policy, science, etc.) and have to suffer the indignity of answering ignorant and/or leading questions from these fucking children.

This guys demeanor in particular is reminiscent of the time my wife and I brought our infant to the doctor the first time filled with lots of questions and theories about what was going on. "(sigh). No Mr and Mrs Hooch.  It's not Lupus."

If that Gaetz double-check of the deck isn't forever used as the meme for "(checks notes)" on message boards, then we should shut this website down now and for all time.

Okay, had some time to stew on it.  I longcat post sometimes.  I am annoyingly tech illiterate, I can't even replicate my old avatar.  Surely somebody can "meme" the moment of Gaetz looking over to his right to see that it is in fact, Beijing Propaganda.  And that caged face of "Aw, shit."  it's a split second, but somebody has to be able to capture that for future meme usage.

If you hate my posts, and you should...this should transcend that.  It will be applicable across millions of websites as the "checks notes" meme or "Owpned" or What have you.  I know it's not obvious by the optics, but that's what makes it so beautiful.  Fuck, half the users of it won't know who he is or the origin story.  Even better IMO.

He was completely undeterred.  Here's his entire time:

He was so proud of himself early in this, and as stated he was completely undeterred by his gaffe and continued his speech (err I mean line of questioning).

No matter.  He had the floor for 5 minutes, and all anyone will remember is that 54 second drubbing.  Fucking perfect.
