Going after the extremists would be the clearest example yet that the moderates are beginning to realize that Trump and MAGA are no longer winnable moving forward.

So, naturally, I'm not optimistic it'll happen. Another one of those "everything is about to come crashing down on all the people you don't like" stories.

But they will also have to simultaneously realize that the GQP cannot win going forward WITHOUT MAGA voters.

A plurality of maybe 25% of all voters controls more than half the power of the US government. Their numbers just barely give the GOP a chance at winning.

A criminal organization such as the GOP cannot afford to lose power. They will hold it at any costs which is a lesson they keep teaching us. Optimism about more sensible heads in the GOP is embarrassingly naive in the face of more than five years of evidence.

We're discussing people who wailed about Jan. 6 on that day when they were terrified then backed the traitor who called for that insurrection.

We need to be wiser than the meat puppets on CNN and other news channels who cannot see the shift in paradigm. They're lazily willing to keep hoping the world returns to the one they found so easy to cover. Their sleepy habits lull us all.

So many elements causing this vortex, my friends. We're failed by so very many.

They can tell the GQP/MAGA idiots "you can vote for us Republicans, even if you think we are RINOs, or you can go vote for the party that just named a Black lesbian as a US Senator, you're choice."

Of course some MAGA idiots are so full of hate/revenge/whatever, that they'll happily vote against moderate Republicans, but most will fall in line or stay home.

That's obviously what the GOP is worried about. Trump attracts a bunch of disillusioned conspiracy theorists who didn't normally vote. They know they have the fatty's of the world--who will fall in line regardless until the end of time because they're absolutely convinced that Democrats are going to take all of their money--locked up, but they need that true believer contingent to control the House and Senate (and obviously Presidency).

Attack the Freedom Caucus, and the nutters will conclude that they're just voting for the uniparty again and will go back to feeling like they have no voice, so why bother (god willing).

lol,  I hope that McCarthy has the juice to get Gaetz expelled from Congress

Ds should insist that any vote to remove Gaetz must also include Santos. There's no real harm for the Rs to remove Gaetz, because that district is solid crimson red. NY 3rd could easily flip back Blue if they expel Santos. Shit, it probably will anyway if (when) NY draws new maps.

I'm fine leaving Santos. I think after this bullshit it flips back blue regardless. If I'm pulling out my wish list, I could give a fuck about Santos, he's a Republican mess to clean up. If we're going to clean up his speaker's mess, I'd be demanding more than Santos. Guaranteed funding for Ukraine, I liked another poster tha said guaranteed up/down vote on impeachment with no more trials, and governance rule changes...in writing.

Your post has an underlying premise that CNN and other news channels have a motive to save the republic.  They like the drama and want it daily for the 6:00 news.  The worse it gets the happier they are.

Yep.  Up and down vote on impeachment, Ukraine funding and there has to be a rules package to prevent further motions to vacate over and over and over and over.

No. That's not the underlying premise. The underlying premise is right there on the top.

TV journalists and editorial staffs are too lazy to pursue stories that don't match the templates they keep handy. They are neither inclined to cover two huge stories (climate and fascism) nor are they intellectually equipped.

As to your general point, they're not very good at tracking down drama either. Again, they stick to templates.

Mass Shooting, let's see what the template says:

  • Where was the gun acquired?
  • Will this move legislators?
  • Where's the shot of people hugging and crying?
  • Cue the shot of cops and swat teams leaving scene with equipment.
  • Strictly limit discussion to gun control.
    • Ignore cultural issue (don't want to insult any viewers)
    • Ignore mental health care deficiencies (too complicated; Bor-ring)
  • Cue bios of the victims and heart-tugging stories of their fabulous virtue

CNN couldn't bring themselves to use the words "lies" and "liar" to describe Trump throughout his entire presidency. Why? It. Doesn't. Fit. The. Template.

MSNBC is an exception. Many print outlets actually find news. TV "news" is all panel shows.

He was checking to make sure he had his digital voting card (the one all House members carry).  He just so happened to have an itch on his nose around the same time.  He wasn't doing blow on the House Floor.  He has a lot of issues, but he doesn't do coke for myriad reasons.  He's tried it (he's a young guy in Florida after all), but he's not a regular user.

Think about how many GOP'ers scream every single day about all the fentanyl pouring in through our Souther Border by brown people.  And think about how odd it is that none of them, with all their drug addictions, have ever had a bad batch.  Don, Jr. doesn't travel with coke.  He has somebody buy it in whatever city he's visiting, from just the local supply.  Gaetz is actually smart enough to not risk that.  But sooner or later, on any given timeline, everybody's luck runs out.

On one hand the GOP really deserves to eat their own dog food and succumb to massive consequences for letting these insane people have any voice in their party…on the other hand, it’s *maybe* possible they can expel the children where the aftermath has some semblance of governance through affective compromise like it’s supposed to be.

Who am I kidding…the past decade+ has shown they’ll go with the easy evil route of hurting everyone but rich white folk.  Carry on

I don't know shit about the workings of Congress these days. I barely knew more than shit back when it used to be a governing body.

If the GOPs expel Gaetz, it will not be a sign that the better hearts are prevailing, IMHO. It will be phony show claiming that such has happened. I don't have the feeling that Gaetz is a key symbol for the MAGA crowd.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there isn't some sneaky plan to pry MTG out of office through scandal or whatever means to further give CNN the opportunity to sigh with relief that now we can get back down to business as usual. Hooray for the shitheels who protected the traitorous fascist rebel, Donald Trump!

If they're lucky, they can continue to defame everyone prosecuting Trump but have Trump convicted and taken off the table. They will hoot and howl for the MAGA rubes to see how loyal they are to the Donald.

Their last move will be to make sure they stay horrible enough to keep the deplorables interested. You know, the same kind of horrible they've been through the last several decades without much of the electorate even taking notice.

Those are the musing of an uniformed man. The only thing that I am sure of is that the GOP will remain a criminal organization beholden to the rich and whoever sends them lots of money from anywhere.

MTV is clearly the new Qanon plan to reinstall President Trump in the Oval Office. Think about it, Q followers have figured out that JFK Jr is not coming back. But what if Kennedy the VJ did? She becomes Speaker of the House, vacates Trump's impeachments, changes the J6 vote, Trump is back in power. Nice and simple.

“If we got rid of the speaker of the House, hopefully we get someone in there who doesn’t make backdoor deals with Democrats,” said Sandra Atkinson, the chairwoman of the Republican Party of Okaloosa County, adding that Republicans were proud of him for following through on his word.

“There’s a lot of people who like Matt Gaetz,” said Joel Terry May, 67, a local artist, as he showed off a painting in downtown Pensacola to visitors from New Orleans. “He speaks for the people, and he speaks out.”

Mr. May, who grew up in Alabama, remembers a time when former Gov. George C. Wallace visited his school back in the 1960s.

“People didn’t like George Wallace nationally, but the people who elected him and represented him did,” he said. “That’s what Gaetz also understands. When you represent somebody, you want them to maintain the feel of the people. People want to see Washington work. They want their representatives to have a pulse on the area.”

“He was Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump,” Mr. Lombardo said of the congressman, “and the First District is all about Trump.”

I’m not sure this came off the way he wanted it to. Or maybe it did and he’s just racist as all fuck.

This is so insane that it's the most viable probability.
