You can only be extorted for $25m when the story is true.

if someone extorted anyone for (insert large percentage of their net worth) for a made up story, they would be laughed it. Fine, go to the media and/or police with your made up claims, I don’t care.

im not going to watch his tucker interview but was he ever asked by ace reporter Carlson if he had a relationship with a 17 year old? That is the only question that matters.

He categorically denied (without being asked) ever having a relationship with a 17 year old. I just heard the soundbite in cnn. Claims all his travel records prove it.

Nothing is going to happen to him, regardless. He's getting ahead of it and the hive will coalesce around him versus the NASTY corrupt DOJ and FBI (because what about emails, Hunter Biden, and Eric Swalwell) which is actually a good strategy for them (the GOP).

Consider it a trial balloon for when they wish to make having sex with underage girls a norm for which these men go unpunished. Sort of a handmaid's tale for the rich and famous. Same as it ever was....

He carefully worded that statement. He said he has never traveled with a 17 year old woman. Which I don’t believe anyone is suggesting. So there would be no record of them traveling together. The DOJ can probably prove he bought the 17 year old a plane ticket.

and yes, the underage sex and extortion are separate events. They can both be true. Just because he claims he was being extorted doesn’t mean the underage sex wasn’t true

Just pointing out that if there were a legitimate “counter-investigation” into the extortion claims in which the FBI was having his dad wear a wire, the last thing on the planet you would do if you wanted justice to be served and your name to be exonerated would be to reveal that investigation.

Weird how gaetz tried to pull tucker into the situation by reminding tucker of a dinner when gaetz is obviously implying tucker met the girl. Tucker ran from that implication by saying he has no idea what gaetz is talking about. Bad for gaetz.

Carlson may be the frozen fish stick king, but he's got enough clarity of thought to know going 0 for 2 in lawsuits  would be a bad look.

Side note, is it normal for politicians to have dinners with "news" anchors for major networks?  Are Elizabeth Warren and Jake Tapper going out to dinner on the reg?

Today's Word of the Day:

Kompromat

In Russian culture, kompromat, short for "compromising material", is damaging information about a politician, a businessperson, or other public figure, which may be used to create negative publicity, as well as for blackmail, often to exert influence rather than monetary gain, and extortion.

No it's not "normal", but you have to remember the GQP and right wing media are actually a "cabal", so of course they have dinner together and consult with each other.  Every accusation is a confession.  Think of how many times you've been accused of being in a "cabal".

Gaetz is practically indicting himself. He's arguing that his dinner companion, who Tucker denied meeting, was being threatened by the FBI if she didn't cooperate. Cooperate how, and what information could she "make up."  If there is nothing legally wrong with her relationship with Gaetz, then its doubtful the FBI can compel her to make up stories.  Now if she's an hooker or used drugs with Gaetz, then yes the law can compel her to testify or perhaps face charges herself. It could depend if she's caught up in other situations.  It's called an investigation and law enforcement normally make deals with people for information.

And on the hooker/escort angle, Gaetz admits that he has taken care of women that he's been in a relationship about. Probably not illegal but this would be embarrassing for him to get caught up in a sugar baby relationship with an extremely young woman, even if she's an adult.  However if he's quick to admit "taking care of" his dates, it most likely means the whole story has more details to be released.

Just a hunch and perhaps wildly incorrect, but I suspect the sex angle is a diversion. He has a PR group and sex sells. While the trafficking issue may yield some fruit, the Greenburg/Roger Stone angle is where the real trouble and dirt is sitting. They're hoping no one is looking over there.

Yeah, for you lawyer and/or sugar daddy types...what is the standard to be met on the actual "transporting of minors across state lines for the purposes of sex"?  I mean if you fly with a 17YO from Florida to D.C., you're not actually flying the plane...but you did buy her ticket and are escorting her?  I think driving her is pretty cut 'n clear, but the flight thing seems nuanced.  And what does it really matter if you sit next to her in Seats 3A & 3B, what if you just pay for and send her the ticket and to come see you?...is that still "transporting?"  Asking for a friend.  And my friend?  You guessed it...Matt "THIS FUCKING GUY" Gaetz.

If you just keep talking and talking and talking you're going to throw enough dirt into the air that at least 30% of viewers will either believe you or at least get tired of it and hate everyone involved. Occasionally you'll have a good point, even if by accident, increasing that 30%.

Post through it, Matt. Just keep going and never ever stop. If you stop you die.

This is the lesson of Trumpism.

Their world is caving in.  I know a lot of people here think they’re just as powerful as before and Trump will win in 2024 etc but that’s all their fantasy.

As Delta and other major companies begin to cancel these fuckers and the states that back their policies, they’re up shit creek.  Now will they go out with a whimper?  Probably not - I could buy the Brisket visions...they would rather this country and world be done, if they’re gonna be cancelled.

In the end I’m not wasting my time worrying about them.  I’ll keep pointing out how stupid they are and I laugh as I get less and less pushback.  They’re on the run.  Bury ‘em.

Maybe it's me, but announcing that your dad has been wearing a wire seems inexplicably stupid to the point of being dangerous.

Trying to drag Tucker into defending him, openly admitting his dad was wearing a wire.  The thing about the photos, about taking care of women.  The “retirement” to go work at Newsmax.

Gaetz thinks he’s fucked.  And his other daddy, Trump, is not rushing out to defend him.

I’d say the Newsmax thing is the key.  Gaetz is ambitious.   Newsmax does nothing to further that ambition, and in fact would reduce his profile, and get him out of the game.

Wonder which trump spawn wants his seat.  They're moving this chicken hawk out.

Or he stopped being useful, and there’s somebody in line behind him that they like.  They are staying silent on Gaetz.  And this started under Trump’s watch, and if Trump admin officials were briefed like the reports say, hen Trump knew and didn’t try and shut it down.

Agree that Newsmax does not help Gaetz. First, their viewership is low. Second, he just becomes a face in the crowd of other political contributors. His past as a congressman gets his foot in the door, but then he will have to compete for airtime. Right now, he can practically walk into any conservative TV show he wants. That won't be the case if he works for them and he won't be on Fox again. Newsmax might even give him an hour per day but if viewers don't flock, you will be pushed out.

Gaetz is absolutely trying to use Trumpism. "Yeah, I paid to fuck a 17 year old, so what". The "so what" in this case, is that Florida's age of consent is 18, and a 17 year old is considered a minor. It is statutory rape, it doesn't matter if she consented to the sex. It is still illegal and you can still go to prison. The fact that you paid for said girl to cross state line, makes it sex trafficking and that's why the Federal government is prosecuting and not the state.

If someone was extorting him for $25 million, they probably have evidence of something, not just the story that he fucked a 17 year old, or maybe that's why it broke, they were going public and he leaked it and got ahead of the story by appearing on news channels to "spin it" about him being the victim.

If there were pictures sent to him while she was 17, that is child pornography territory as well.

Is it just me, or does Gaetz strike you all as someone who is perpetually twenty years old, wearing a suit his father bought him (for internships) , and looking for his next beer bash hookup? It's just weird.

My Dad would have run my ass over himself if I was anything like that at 20...or any age for that matter.  He wasn’t one to brook any bullshit.

that shaky voice on the fox interview from last night means gaetz knows its over for him.

He'll make a good bundle being unfunny and obnoxious on some deformed version of a news channel. He's the perfectly sized enema that will fit snugly into this current butthole of a political culture.

I also believe Gaetz, and I think he admitted to the crime on Tucker's show. but he danced around specifics.

People that do bad things usually do not think what they're doing is wrong, so you can't take a statement of innocence as a statement that they didn't do the act. Gaetz could very well think sleeping with a girl is the equivalent of driving 70 in a 65. Sure, it's illegal but not really. Or, you don't know this girl. She's a very mature 17 year old.

From my understanding, people, who like to have relationships with children, will justify it in their mind as acceptable. They don't think they're a villain here.
