Was 17 not legal in the state this is to have occurred in?  17 is legal in many states. Just gross if your not 18 or 19.

or, as Abbott wants to affirm, is it illegal to take someone across state lines into a state where it would be legal?

Like any fucking thing will come of this.

Bingo.  A MAGAt politican could buttfuck an infant on live TV, and the only response from the cult would be joyful shouts of "look at how much he's owning the libs!"

Nothing matters.  Nothing.  0.0.  Absolutely nada.

So, age of consent in Florida was 18.  Did this alleged offense take place in Florida?

Matt, "Doesn't matter.  The sexual acts took place in international waters, your honor!"

Judge, "It says here, the sexual assault took place in the intercoastal waterway."

Matt, "International, Intercoasta.  The important thing is it ain't gay when you're aweigh."

And it's still not criminal court.

What's the new standard for officials elected to serve in D.C.?

Decorum, decency, political philosophy, no criminal activity, solid hater

Why is this a civil case and not a criminal case?

The authorities (Federal) did not bring charges

The attorneys briefed on aspects of the case say federal investigators appear stymied by concerns about the credibility of two key witnesses or a lack of direct evidence implicating Gaetz, who has denied all wrongdoing.

TwiceHorn: You live in the same dreamworld. It doesn't matter what I believe. It only matters what I can prove. So don't tell me what I know, or don't know. I know the LAW

I am thinking about pitching this approach to a proposed new wing of MD Anderson.  It will be exclusively for lawyers, judges, and GOP politicians.  If we suspect a cancer we will schedule a biopsy 6-12 months  later but only after allowing all involved parties comment and discussion.  It the biopsy comes back positive, since cancer is “a person” with all aforded rights, we will allow a appeal process for the cancer at which time it was, by being silent, request a appeal and rebiopsy in 6-12 months.  If that comes back positively we will discuss treatment but that is also subject to a multphased appeal process resulting in a tageted treatment start date of 3-6 years.

Eh. Clunky joke, but not a felony. The real knee-slapper is that everybody gets to deal with their own personal cancer, unless they croak of something else first.

…said the non-lawyer/judge.  I recently lost a lost school classmate to pancreatic cancer and my law school Buddy now-employer was just diagnosed with some rare type of lymphatic cancer.  So he caught me at a weak moment wishing cancer on lawyers. I was thinking of them more than my stage three self.

I totally agree with your assessment about the joke as entirely permissible on Surly - but I feel like you are trying to take away my constitutional right to post stupid while really drunk.

If I upset you, or if that post seemed personal, I am sincerely sorry.  I certainly do not know anyones medical history, not was my post targeted at anyone specifically. It was a crude layperson’s comment on the perceived ridiculousness of the legal system, its endless stalls, delays and appeals.  An imaginary application of that approach to my world, were every second counts and we are constantly trying to eliminate every possible delay seems extremely moronic, which was the point I was trying to convey.   Again apologies.

clearly heartfelt nice stuff

Very much appreciated, but not accepted because not needed Horn Dog.   Like I said, it was the perfect storm of friends’ medical events and possibly two too many old fashioneds.

It would take a nanosecond reviewing my posting to find numerous snarky posts equal or worse than my faulty perception of your post - and while I am a Surly asshole - I hope I’m not a hypocrite. All good buddy. Sorry for the drama.  Move to Derka goodbye thread.

The huddle grew so heated, that at one point, Van Orden – a Johnson ally who decided to step in and provide backup for the speaker – told Gaetz to “kick rocks, tubby.”

“I’m a retired Navy Seal, and Navy Seals only go places with a swim buddy, and the speaker didn’t have a swim buddy,” Van Orden told CNN, recounting the exchange. “So he didn’t ask me to come over there. I went and was his swim buddy.”

Quote

“Matt Gaetz is a bully, Chip Roy’s a bully, Bob Good’s a bully, and the only way to stop a bully is to push back harder,” the Wisconsin Republican added.

Gaetz told reporters Van Orden was acting “unhinged” and called him “not particularly intelligent.”

We both know I don't have that power. :) More likely to imitate you than oppose you.

@Gatorubet, Condolences for your friend and colleague. But, I didn’t read that post as wishing cancer on anyone. I read it as a comparison between the way doctors treat cancers and the almost two year delay of the DOJ to recognize the cancer in our republic, and then to treat the cancer as just another tumor.

Funny you should mention that, the theme of what happened to me and my buddy the night/morning after we graduated and skipped "Project Graduation" could best be describe as "Send Lawyers Guns and Money."
