If the feds start to identify situations where politicians had sex with escorts/prostitutes where the escort was paid to cross state/federal borders, then I imagine many in Congress are in potential trouble.

I'm not saying this is someone's best moment in life but if the people are all adults and the escort is ok with the transaction, this doesn't feel like the biggest crime in the world.

Well, Matt, did ya or didn't ya turn tricks? Because, if you did take money from the nightstand, you definitely turned tricks.

That meme that Rep Gosar tweeted with the prostitute leaning in the car window (the America First meme) is starting to take on a whole new level of hmmmmm.

What if they used campaign dollars?

What if it was part of a larger operation throughout the state of Florida to secure loyalty and kompromat and such?

I'm not convinced this was a simple one to one business transaction.

I don't disagree that if other aspects are found, then it's a different story. And yes, I could very well see a scenario where someone else picks up the tab in exchange for political favors.

the issue is her age...which in this case is 17.  federal trafficking statutes outlaws paying someone 17 or under to cross state lines for sex.

Yeah, that's kind of the thing here. Far be it for me to judge the private actions & transactions of consensual adults, it's the issue of who paid for the escorts' services and whether they were of age or not.

Are we just ignoring that she was a minor?

No; that case is separate, IMO. Gaetz has been tagged as doing this with multiple 'partners' and I don't know the ages of them all.

Also, this is a convoluted enterprise and involves multiple questionable arenas. Some of it appears to be the usual political 'favors' but other stuff not so much.

With all of the stories about Gaetz, there is complete uncertainty of whether this is all related to 1 woman (girl) or many.  I go off the basis that someone in his position is not being faithful to one escort. Is the DC girl the same as the alleged Bahamas companion? No idea, but it could just as easily be someone else.

And yes, I agree 100% if the person in question is underage, the story is on a different level than just a congressman paying for sex.

We had like a 600 page thread on McKayla Maroney, 300 of which were when she was a minor.

so, uh, yeah.

but seriously, there is a big difference between being pervy online (most of us anyways) and explicitly paying for sex in addition to being underage.

Quoting myself, but the convoluted part is when the string keeps getting pulled:

Lipman previously worked for the Florida Dept of Children and Families.

I just realized Coach Finstock speaks with the same cadence, indifference, and disconnection as Donald Trump.  Plus he hung around the shower a little too long.

I like that Trump released that statement on Gaetz that says, "(Matt) has never asked me for a pardon."  First of all, this is the first time I've ever heard Trump use Gaetz's name correctly to identify him.  Second, are the idiot Trumpers convinced by this statement?  Because, almost nobody who receives a pardon ever actually asks the President for one.  It's done through an intermediary 99% of the time, because the people asking for them are, you know Trumpers......in fucking prison at the time.  You guys are still this gullible even after he leaves office?  Of course Gaetz didn't directly ask the President for one.  But Trump was told about Gaetz's request for one though, probably numerous times...after each time Matt went to bat for Donald with the media, with mcConnell, with the RNC, et. al.

Believe me, Gaetz never asked to the President directly, but Trump was told multiple times to give him one.  For some reason though, whoever brought Matt's pitch to Trump likely told the President, "Just being the messenger sir, he's got some allies we could use in the House and he's a good junkyard dog for us in the media...but this investigation is pretty hairy sir.  I'll say you're giving it serious thought and that Matt should keep up the good fight for you and we'll let him know."

SNL hit the nail on the head about QAnon's silence about Gaetz and his Fla cronies. Gaetz and company are the ones that most closely resemble what QAnon has been attacking, but QAnon is suddenly silent.

It only took a few internet rumors to convince them to attack a pizza restaurant. Now we're seeing arrests and investigations, and QAnon is practically telling everyone that there hasn't been a conviction.

I'm sorry that Texag's sponsors forced the removal of the Texags' QAnon thread. It was good place to check the pulse.

It's also a squishy statement; for all Trump is portrayed as stupid, a conman knows how to tiptoe when necessary. The debate and legality of pardon acceptance, issuance, and request with respect to guilt I won't go into as it was discussed in length back in December and January, but it is not a good look. So it's a roundabout--"I know nothing of any potential crimes, pending investigations, or any of the other sort that might tread really really closely to my own issues regarding underage sex or rape or any of that type of affair."

nah, they will just go straight to the whadabout playbook.

What about Hunter Biden? Why isn't the media covering that??

What about Epstein and Bill Clinton, huh? Why isn't the media all over that one??

If somebody in the military with a security clearance was having sex with escorts/prostitutes, crossing state or federal borders or not, they could lose their security clearance pretty quickly, because they are security risks.

Hell, the Secret Service fired agents for fucking around with prostitutes back in 2012.

It's actually a pretty serious security risk, especially if they tend to be on the younger side, even if legal. Lots of blackmail potential.

Yeah, the intelligence agencies and portions of the intel-sensitive military community have become more lax with regard to everything from tattoos, to marijuana use, to sexual practices between consenting adults that used to be considered deviant, etc.  It's not exactly Burning Man Festival, but it's way different that it used to be even 20 years ago.

But the reason they still frown upon underage sex, rape, heavy drug use after hundreds of years is because you can be easily compromised.  Some shit never changes.  You can break a man by threatening to reveal his zest for sex with kids or heroin.  It's just a fact of human nature and that'll never go away no matter how progressive you may think society is getting.  A functioning alcoholic who never looks at other women is considered 100x more trustworthy than a Mormon with a penchant for high school musicals.

There's a reason for silence around Epstein and Bill Clinton.  They can't cover that without exposing their own.  I'm all for them digging into it but they've been mute on the subject, despite the photos of the two.

I love the fact that Trump finally issued a statement, and it didn’t defend Gaetz at all. That’s how you know this shit is serious.

And I’m wondering if the Trump clan sees a nice window of opportunity if some Florida GOP players and their BMDs go down.

It's the perfect place for her, and they could very well take control of the Florida GOP if enough people go down.

And if Greenberg is talking like it sounds, there will be plenty of people going down. Gaetz does not have Trump and Trump's DOJ to protect him.

One thing that always bothered Trump (from good authority in New York politics) was that it always bothered Trump, his parents, and his wives/children that they were not very well juiced in with regard to state politics.  Trump stroked checks to both sides, hosted fundraisers, but it was just shit you can buy.  Nobody ever sought his counsel, he was never on any significant board or commission, never in the inner cadre of Mayors, Governors, NY Senators, et. al.  After his check cleared or the last guest left one of his ballroom events for a major political figure...no elected official with any real power ever called the guy.  Nobody ever suggested his dopey children get involved and run for office.  He was a fucking joke among the real power brokers.  The one Trumper with real political sway, his sister, went to the bench and basically never talked to Don again, and mocks him to this day.

Don't get me wrong, he got the last laugh by winning the White House.  But they were always shunned and that chip on his family's shoulder has endured.  They have a real chance to attempt a multi-generation of political power in Florida/the Southeast like the Kennedys in the Northeast.  They're legacy shopping and trying to seize power at the same time.  It may actually work, too early to tell.  But they are bound and determined to control a place like Florida because Manhattan simply wouldn't have them among decent society.

You know the rich kid that pledged your fraternity?  And nobody liked him.  He was obnoxious, egotistical, and creepy as shit.  But you decided to give him a bid because you knew down the road you could count on him and his family to fund a new wing to the house or cover the whole pledge classes travel nut to South Padre?  That was Trump in New York politics for decades.

That statement by him spoke volumes. He's not going to defend Gaetz, because not only could this knock out Gaetz, but his dad.  Hell, maybe it can take down DeSantis as well - Trump is probably not fond of somebody outside of the family that is being touted as the next Donald Trump.

Good points.

Gaetz family doesn't really have the political sway in Florida that some MAQA people thought they did.  The Bush's turned their backs on them a couple years ago.  Rubio knew about Gaetz's misdeeds several months ago and let Matt know which is why Matt so loudly broadcast to the world he wouldn't run for that seat (although people thought that was misdirection on Matt's part).  DeSantis could take or leave the Gaetz family now.  Rick Scott and Papa Gaetz go back a long ways, but he's been butting heads with Matt for years now and doesn't seem real eager to jump to Matt's aide.  The current speaker is a moderate and when he does swing right, it's to follow DeSantis' lead who has completely turned his back on Gaetz to remain in favor with Trump.

Matt fell right into Trump's trap.  Trump's a long-game confidence man, Matt is a short-sighted rapist with interesting hair.
