sure that goes anywhere either:

Florida is one of the few “two-party consent” states—which means that everyone involved in an audio recording must consent to being recorded. ... But if the conversation occurred in private, an audio recording might not be admissible without your explicit permission.

So the audio recording itself won't be admissible. Just the two women on the call who are testifying giving their words. Somehow I'm guessing folks won't care unless they actually hear a recording of Gaetz going "LIE TO THE COPS" and/or "Sure, I paid _________ to go to the Bahamas with me, but who cares?"

Prosecutors granted immunity to an ex-girlfriend of Representative Matt Gaetz before she testified last week in front of a federal grand jury hearing evidence in the investigation of the congressman, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Gaetz has been under investigation to determine if he violated sex trafficking laws and obstructed justice in that probe. Gaetz has previously denied all wrongdoing, and has said he has never paid for sex nor had sex with an underage girl.

The woman, who CBS News is not naming to protect her privacy, testified in front of a federal grand jury in Orlando last Wednesday. She is viewed as a potential key witness, according to two sources familiar with the investigation. One of the sources said she has information related to the investigation of both the sex trafficking and obstruction allegations.

"This may be a willing participant who has a smart lawyer who sought an immunity deal from the government," said former prosecutor and CBS News legal analyst Rikki Kleiman. "The government does not give immunity blindly, they know what they're getting in exchange."

Spoiler

Isabelle Kirshner, an attorney for Gaetz, told CBS News in a statement last week that "we have seen no credible basis for a charge against Congressman Gaetz. We remain steadfast in our commitment to challenge any allegations with the facts and law."

A source told CBS News last week that as a part of an obstruction probe, investigators are looking into whether Gaetz had a phone call with the ex-girlfriend, and another woman, who was already a witness in the federal investigation.

Multiple sources told CBS News that the ex-girlfriend and the other woman traveled to the Bahamas with Gaetz in 2018, along with a third woman with whom Gaetz was in a sexual relationship. That third woman was 18 at the time of the Bahamas trip, but investigators are also looking into whether she was 17 when the sexual relationship began.

Investigators are trying to determine if any of the women were paid and were illegally trafficked across state or international lines for the purpose of sex with the congressman.

Two sources familiar with the matter told CBS News it was Joel Greenberg, a former Florida county tax collector and associate of Gaetz's, who introduced Gaetz to that woman when she was 17 years old. Greenberg pleaded guilty in May 2021 to six federal charges, including trafficking of a minor.

I'll leave it to the practicing attorneys on this site to chime in, but I would think the stall/delay/countersuit techniques and shit being deployed by every Trumper from Congress to the Insurrection to Real Estate to his former administration officials...while they're currently postponing the inevitable...most of these cases/suits are gonna be vetted and tried; and people will begin prison terms long before Trump is able to regain office (if he doesn't die or lose first).

That seems like a big gamble.  I know he's holding rallies and the Democrats are conceding mid-term losses 'n shit, but it's literally over 3 years until Trump would have pardoning power again...if ever.  I know the DOJ and FBI like to be thorough and play it classy, but I'd get every one of these people in an interview room...they can have attorneys and cameras present.  All on the up and up.  And I'd place three piles on the table without saying much of anything.  A copy of the charges/indictments against them, a calendar that goes to February of 2025 with every day until then numbered.  And then a photograph of their prison cellmate.  "Trump may save you from this (point to legal docs) after this (point to calendar), but it's a long time to put up with this (point to photo).  You can play ball and give us somebody bigger, or you'll spend the worst three years we've ever thought up in the criminal justice system.  We have facilities people haven't even thought about how to get out of yet."

it'll be resolved in the press, not the courts. if the public story is too strong, he'll be asked by leadership to step aside.

feels like some people would be interested in a secret government conspiracy ring having sex with minors.

Come on man. It's more likely that Hillary and others are using a suburban pizzeria for child sex trafficking than friends and "girlfriends" of a congressman telling the govt about said congressman's problem with underage women. geez.

Everyone else: "What's more likely sir...that the 18 year old that Gaetz was flying around and having sexual relations with at his own admission...was a year younger when they started that relationship?  You know...age 17 years of age?  -OR- former members of our government harvest babies for their blood but nobody has ever seen any of these babies?"

Gaetz Voter:  "Intersting point about 17 coming before 18 if you've in a relationship, of your own admission, for over a year with an 18 year old.  But lotta fake maths out there so I'm gonna go with the second option, the thing about there being tens of thousands of missing babies that nobody ever talks about."

Oh he's just pissed because they won't allow unaccompanied minors to order drinks on his membership tab so they can quote "catch up before I get over there from the House Floor."

""We are going to take power and when we do, it's not going to be the days of Paul Ryan and Trey Gowdy, where the Republicans go limp-wristed, where they lose their backbone and fail to send a single subpoena. No, it's going to be the days of Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene.""

What the hell did they have against ineffectual Trey Gowdy?  Besides the fact that he sometimes neglected his GOP House duties to run off, die his hair orange, and serve as Laboratory Assistant to a Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.

Honeydew, today I learned that. You are a master of the deep cuts.
