Mark Milley is a BAMF.  To say Gaetz is out of his depth is a gross understatement.

Gaetz is a frightened minnow caught in a tidal pool of ever shrinking depth. Milley is a Great White who lords over the deep and shits chunks of minnow without a second thought.

The South lost for the same reason we have rebuilt most of Europe twice, Japan, the South Pacific, the Middle East, and huge swaths of Africa---infrastructure, robust economies, effective governments, militaries, judiciaries, educational systems, medical care, etc.  But in 150 years---from Louisiana to South Carolina and the states in between---the American South continues to languish in poverty, illiteracy, and corruption.  Why?  Because they celebrate and empower stupidity.  It's a virtue, not a liability.  So they can have Gaetz, and Trump, and DeSantis...and they can choke on the misery they have invited upon themselves.   Egg 'em on, let 'em rise up again so we can make a fucking mass grave the size of the Florida panhandle.  Fuck 'em all.

That was Matt's face when Milley was not giving the answer he wanted.  Matt knew that people would ridicule him on the internet.

He intentionally wasted the time of the Secretary of Defense and a General in an attempt to score political points; I don't know about you, but at their pay scale I believe he should not only be ridiculed, but pulled aside and told to straighten up or get sent to eat with the other children at the card table on the screen porch.

It was a deceitful attempt to obtain cheap garbage points from cheap garbage people.  And when it didn't go his way he had a breathy little tantrum.  Your description is perfect because when I saw that I felt like I was watching a spoiled little kid.  He's a spoiled little adult.  At least be a spoiled little adult, Matt.

Only thing more stupid than my posts is your twisted nostalgia for the Confederacy.  History proves one thing...the enlightened bury the ignorant.  But yeah...it does take awhile.

I wasn’t talking about your post. I was talking about the post indicating that Texas is Mississippi with oil.  That is…fucking stupid.  Before calling me ignorant, or assuming I have any nostalgia for the Confederacy, take a shot at learning to understand how quoted posts work.

Yeah, I actually don't know how they work.  I'm from Mississippi.

That is a good topic for another thread---in all honesty---how would Texas fare without all the natural resources and coastline?  Louisiana itself is a pretty good fucking indicator, but to your point---I think we have a few other "positives" on our side of the ledger.  Plus the historical factor, we got dragged into the confederacy without being "all-in" historically...and all the baggage that comes with that.  But AR, LA, TN, MS, AL, GA, & SC just blow me away how they don't understand why they're still where they are 150 years later and their only 'strategic planning session' on a go forward basis is "RISE AGAIN!"  It'd be funny if it wasn't such a fucking national security risk.

Also, Gaetz fucks kids.  And my apologies flattie for shitty reading comprehension as per usual on Sunday hangovers (that Miss. State game last night snake bit me according to the pile of beer cans I found in the recycling bin this morning before swimming)

No worries. I’m into the hair of the dog a bit myself at the moment.  Texas has our problems. But fucking Louisiana and Mississippi we are not, with or without oil.

Just now, Mrs Whiggins said:

Oklahoma might have been a more apt comparison, perhaps.

In some agricultural respects maybe. But we have hundreds of miles of very valuable coastline Ok doesn’t. Ports, aquaculture, etc.  Our varied terrain alone changes the math on what makes us unique.

To even further pick apart that statement, La might not exist at all without the O&G industry.  There’s only so much sugarcane and nutria pelt you can sell.

*I understand shit ass Ms and La have coastlines.

Oklahoma has a port, but it is dependent upon several rivers in order to function. Texas has multiple areas other than oil in which it can operate, but oil was a big part of Oklahoma's success and the timing of its discovery in the area as well. But my point is that Oklahoma might be more like Louisiana etc if it were not for oil than Texas would be.

Ive actually used it to ship protect cargo (assuming you are talking Catoosa). It can only accept 54 wide barges, and their roro is limited to bastardized 52’ width.  I should have clarified. Texas has deepwater ports.  But in either instance, if you were meaning Ok is more akin to La, then I interpreted your post incorrectly.

Alabama has thriving ports, gorgeous Gulf beaches, biggest tech and defense research area outside of Silicon Valley and the NC triangle with the highest per capita of PhDs, beautiful natural parks and mountains, lake communities with people from all over the country flocking to live there, world renowned medical center in Birmingham, affordable top notch golf courses, thousands of acres of excellent farmland, and Nick Motherfucking Saban.

And we still suck.

Don’t stick your head in the sand - Texas is so much more in the Alabama/Mississippi/Louisiana category than your ego will admit.

We’re a lot closer to that than we’d like to admit.

Pre oil, our economy was HEAVY on cotton….just like our sister states. Yes, we had more cattle, but whatever the case, Ag economies don’t build wealthy states in the long run. Yeah, we have some ports….which have most of their value tied up in petroleum. NOLA is a major port for the nation drained by the Mississippi.

Without oil, we’re Mississippi with cattle and a couple of lesser ports. Texas was dirt poor for a long-ass time, and without oil, we’d have stayed that way.

And Oklahoma was proud to have Barry Motherfucking Switzer. Employing the gold standard in cheating cocksuckers should not be on the list of with the rest of your positives.  Also, I personally would list AL far above MS.

There’s value in having 3-4x the amount of land.  You know, one of those things they don’t make any more of yada yada.    And I guess you can work your point (correctly or not) that we having booming tech and medical because of oil, but not sure I’m buying it. We have that and others don’t.  Houston is in an “oil town” but it’s been far from the only game in town for decades.  Same with Dallas.  San Antonio and Austin almost no presence and there never was.  Guess I’m missing where the Dallas/SA/Austin parts of these other states are.  They all seem to have a university on par with aggy, but missing their comparable universities such as UT* and Rice.

*I understand UT has benefited from the PUF.  But MS nor LA is hurting for oil money.

It's fitting that Switzer was an Arky as well.

Of course, Dallas has Jerry Jones, so that's a wash.

Well arguing that Texas would be like Mississippi without oil is like arguing New York would be like Michigan without finance. It’s kinda pointless.

The point is Matt Gaetz is the perfect combination of both beavis and butthead that it’s almost like mike judge knew the dude before he wrote the short comedy clip “frog baseball” for spike and mikes sick and twisted animated festival (saw that at the Dobie in 91) and ultimately liquid television on MTV.

I'm curious as to how much Texas benefited from the PUF-induced boom in the reputations of UT and A&M.  The Ags are doing everything they can to shoot themselves in the academic groin, but for a while there both schools were very highly regarded.  UT is still in that discussion, and it feels like it has been a magnet for hi tech relocation.  How that plays out economically on a statewide level, I don't really know.  I've never given a flip about the state past the Travis County border.

There are folks who like to quibble, and there are Texans who go out and pick the grandfather of all chiles from the native plant, bite into the fire of creation, and crow.

Of course we didn't.

perfection of styles related to "BBQ" belongs to the Lone Star State, however.

Not many on this board. I’ve seen people complain that jalapeños make their mouth numb. Regardless, your assertion was false. The plant is native to South America. And New Mexico is better known for both chiles and chile research. And I don’t believe any of the hottest chiles were bred in Texas. Certainly not the Trinidad Scorpion. Or the Carolina Reaper. Or the Ghost Pepper. It used to be that the habanero was the hottest pepper. That’s not native to Texas either. Just because you believe what you say, it doesn’t make it true.

If only you had some device literally at your fingertips that you could use to do some research on the subject.

You mean it’s not just a coincidence that the Cotton Bowl is in Texas? Next you’ll tell me that it’s not a coincidence that the Sugar Bowl is in Louisiana. Or that the Orange Bowl is in Florida, or the Peach Bowl in Georgia.

Many Texans seem, ironically, heat averse.  My own daughter, our youngest, never complained the salsa wasn’t hot enough until she was thirteen, for pity’s sake.

I’ve spent enough time being frustrated with google’s indecision over “chile” vs “chili.” I will rely on an NPR interview with a botanical geneticist, upon my memory verily branded, who stated all modern chiles have the chile Petin as ancestor. As Texas natives traded their goods in points South, a range that saw the first cultivated chile, I see no laziness nor dishonesty in my claim.

Chile pequin?

Native Habitat: On ledges along rivers, in thickets and groves and along arroyos on the Edwards Plateau and in South Texas. Well drained sand, loam, clay, caliche, limestone.

Pequins for the win. When I was in high school, I used to pick melons down in Falfurrias; at the end of every row, there were pequin plants, and my coworkers (whose green cards I never saw) would grab a handful and pop 'em like candy. Taste is sublime, and definitely a hot damned time.

They are fantastic dried out and ground into pepper flakes/dust.

Regardless of whether you spell it “chili” or “chile,” do you know who gave them the name “peppers?” Do you know when and where he first encountered them? Not Texas.
