AISD's (and other districts) Plans for Schools Starting August 18

Uh, politics aside...wearing a hat, sunglasses, and hiding behind a tree at an elementary school dropoff is never a good look for a grown man.  Principal Hansen would like you to have a seat right over there.  I'm guessing the backside of his protest sign says, "Free Candy over Here, Kids!"

Holy shit, I think I know that guy.  He's the raving anti-CRT guy on my nextdoor feed.  European immigrant who uses his fully hyphenated last name.  Named after one of the pups from Paw Patrol.  That looks a lot like him anyway if he was creepily checking out kids at dropoff anyway, which I wouldn't put past him.

my kids' elem school in PfISD has had zero cases of transmission so far.  pleasantly surprised.

Not sure what this is saying.  There isn't a single campus in the Pflugerville ISD (other than an alternative campus) that doesn't have at least 5 cases of Covid reported.  I'm hoping you're right, but more than likely, it's just PfISD not sending out notices.

As in, once a kid or staff member gets it there hasn't been a case where someone else contracts covid from that in school case.

In school cases mostly seem to correlate with community transmission rates rather than actual in school transmission.  Some notable exceptions have been observed in school-related situations off campus (transportation, certain sports). Reassuring that Pf is doing that sort of tracing cause people out in the land of milfs and honey can't be bothers with contract tracing during a fucking pandemic in schools full of unvaccinated children.

Someone should just have their kid claim he tried to lure them behind a tree while he exposed himself.

I mean, in any other year...if this happened at our elementary school (which is close to the one where this guy is pulling this shit)...and some of us dads who help with dropoff/pickup happened up on the guy and took him out back and beat the shit out of him for acting so creepy around a bunch of young kids...we'd have the soccer fields named after us.  But now you got your rights and your damn unions.

i don't think the entire district is doing it, i believe it's on a campus by campus basis at the discretion of the principal.

This may be new but DISD is doing vaccine clinics at schools now. Eligible kids can get their first Pfizer shot during school hours. The 2nd one will happen at the school in October. Parents can fill out waivers online. My kid's middle school is doing it next Thursday. Sadly, my kid is 11 and isn't eligible yet. I like the idea of offering it during school free of charge to the students. I'll be curious how many take DISD up on the offer.

When did this 1776 faux-patriotic crap come out of the woodwork?  Like it suddenly cropped into fashion with all the crazies.

The juxtaposition of his 1776 shirt with her sign calling a shot a "jab" (as the nutters are doing these days) is outstanding.

Especially when they have forgotten that their kids, assuming they have reproduced, get plenty of "mandated jabs" before they attend school.

Which is why their kids aren't getting polio, aren't dying from diphtheria, aren't getting fucked up by whooping cough or mumps, and so on.

Round Rock is calling Leander out for batshittery at the school board meetings.  Sounds like people who didn't follow the fucking procedures to sign up so they could speak fucked around and found out a little bit.  Assuming that they even have kids in RRISD.

The Round Rock Independent School District did not make a decision on whether to extend its mask mandate Tuesday night after the meeting was disrupted several times by angry community members. They were overall upset at not being allowed in the main chamber for the meeting.

Quote

A spokesperson for Round Rock ISD says they let the room fill up as much as possible while abiding by social distancing guidelines. Once the room was full, people were put in an overflow room, where they could watch the meeting on television and come into the main room to talk — if they signed up to speak.

Community members were unhappy with that, citing the open records act.

Quote

In the district’s live stream, board members can be heard asking a police officer at the meeting to remove one of the members of the crowd.

“We cannot continue our meeting with him speaking,” one of the board members said.

Quote

That person, who can’t be seen in the district’s live stream, but was caught on camera by KXAN and can be seen being escorted out in the video above, screams at the board members on his way out.

“It’s an open meeting! Shame on you. Communist! Communist! Let the public in!” he said.

So if you don't let the people in, you're a Communist?

I know we're all operating from alternate facts but I thought we could at least agree on what the word "Communist" means.  it's literally when the people are let in.

I just don't get it.  I really don't.  Who in the fuck acts like this?

People with way too much time on their hand, and who don't have an online sports forum to fuck around on?

It's uhh...been a few decades, but back when I was in school, I can remember what kind of shit kids' parents did that got the kids ridiculed.  Those parents weren't doing it publicly (and a lot of it was rumors and not seen by anybody), in front of the fucking school, being recorded by dozens of people and said videos being broadcast to thousands/millions.

Has to be humiliating on a scale I can't imagine.

Communist means anyone doing something they don’t like, to the nutters.

Hayes had to close an elementary after 10% of the students/staff at Tobias Elementary tested positive.  65 students and teachers.

According to Hays CISD, 10% of the campus population at Tobias Elementary is infected. That triggered the closure until Monday, Sept. 20.

Previously, Hays CISD superintendent Dr. Eric Wright said while he believes masks should be worn in schools, the district was choosing not to enforce its own mandates, as several Texas districts have done.

So what's allowed and what's not?

https://www.kxan.com/news/education/tension-in-texas-what-is-and-isnt-allowed-at-isd-board-meetings-under-state-law/

Quote

On Monday night, several people were escorted out of a Leander ISD board meeting, according to people at the meeting and videos obtained by KXAN, despite a warning from leaders in their previously posted agenda, which announced people who were disruptive would be removed.

That’s exactly what ended up happening.

Quote

A day later, the Round Rock Independent School District had to cut a meeting short after it was disrupted several times by angry community members. A number of people were upset at not being allowed in the main chamber for the meeting, which was at one point blocked off by police.

Quote

Can I legally be escorted out of a public meeting?

Collis: “Generally speaking, people can’t disrupt the meeting. There are reasonable times allotted for when people can make comments, and if they’re preventing the operation of a meeting by say, screaming or yelling or violence or anything like that, then at that point they can be escorted out.”

Quote

Can school districts set up overflow rooms and require some people to watch from there?

Collis: “I don’t know the exact specifics of how the overflow room was set up (at Round Rock ISD), but certainly sometimes government officials have to set up overflow rooms. It’s the only way possible, not just in the COVID era, but even other times if there’s a really hot button issue, and there’s just way too many people that can’t fit in the main chamber.”

“Generally the goal is to, and I think this is consistent with the Open Meetings Act requirements, is to ensure that those in the other rooms can see what’s happening and can listen in, and then still have the opportunity to come in and present their public comments. As long as they’re given that opportunity, then certainly you can do it in a compliant way.”

Quote

Is talking over board members, other speakers during a school board meeting covered by free speech?

Collis: “Government can place reasonable time, place and manner restrictions on speech. And in particular for the functioning of government, you do have to be able to limit comment time and when people can make comments and try to keep them on topic.”

“Usually, in these types of meetings, two or three minutes has been considered to be a reasonable time, place or manner restriction. I certainly could see a scenario where government limits time so much that it becomes unreasonable, and a judge would rule against them. They also can’t allow every person to go for 15 minutes or some of these meetings would go for 24-48 hours.”
