Yeah, you and Fondren bring up good points. Usually the things they "boy who cried wolf" about are super dumb, IE the Stormy Daniels thing. If "grab em by the pussy" didn't play then him banging some porn star wasn't going to play either. Nobody cares. And they beat that to death, going so far as to cry for perjury charges or whatever.

Meanwhile, anyone heard about him letting Russia put bounties on our soldiers lately? I sure haven't.

The Russian bounties still get airtime.

Part of the problem is that Trump capably overwhelms the airwaves with negative actions, and this buries the worst actions and makes us tired of hearing about his negative actions altogether.  He is a complete incompetent when it comes to every other task or job, but he is an expert genius when it comes to this type of PR.  He even knows that positive news won't get the suppression job done so he will even spin the few positive things he does into negatives.

He is so good at it that there is almost undoubtedly a massive piece of negative news or two that has never even gotten a single second of coverage.  The cover up of the cover up of the cover up of the cover up if you will.

Bingo.

Get away from the Twitter universe.  Start championing conservative policies.  You'll get more traction out of wanting to balance the budget if you are trying to enhance economic and educational opportunity at the same time. (Hint, you're going to have to give in on progressive taxation).

If you don't like identity politics, don't engage in it, and calmly call out why it is problematic.

Exactly. I'm a conservative (a real one, i.e., classical liberal) and I'm also a minority. I've got plenty of voice on this forum and I have a lot of people who agree with me.

That has nothing to do with the fact that the current GOP is a steaming pile of horse shit.

This. I am a libertarian and a minority and I rarely get any pushback in the CR. It's really just people that try to defend the actions of Trump that get stomped on because Trump is a fucking retard.

If anyone was following the Dem primary threads it was pretty clear that there isn't a majority of posters on the left in the CR.

Abortion is the dumbest wedge issue ever, because it's improperly framed. The number of abortion will never significantly approach zero no matter what the law is. The actual policy fight is about whether poor people will have safe access to that decision. Rich and even middle class folks will always find a way to get one using modern medical techniques. In states where it would become illegal if Roe/Casey are overturned, poor folks will find an internet video or a shady, unsanitary locale in significant numbers, and groups will arrange for travel across state lines.

Conservatives love government when it’s in their interests.  Those aren’t bleeding heart liberals out there defending the police and the military, which ironically get most of our tax dollars and aren’t very good at keeping America safe.

Brothahorn thinks he’s not a victim just because he says so. The entire premise of being a victim is the idea that you didn't ”choose” your circumstance, it was forced upon you.

George Floyd could have been a conservative/independent for all you know, but yet here we are. He’s dead.

Another point, most black people are surprisingly conservative. The only thing Dems have to offer POC is the idea that they will protect us from racists. This is why you tend to see black people vote Dem, but typically for the most conservative democrat on the ballot.

In laymen's terms: You can talk shit about the Democratic party all you want, Hell I encourage it, but don't act like the shit that continues to happen to black people in this country is based on some bitchass notion that we’re a bunch of crybabies and not ACTUALLY based on the very real oppression that has existed for centuries.

I'm not a victim because I choose not to be a victim. If I spent all my time looking for racial shit to be upset about and then using that as an excuse, that would make me a victim. When I used to mentor, the biggest obstacle was the circle of influence that wouldn't allow a kid to dream. Those are victims. I wasn't raised like that. And you nor anyone else can tell me that I'm a victim simply because I'm black.

There is an irony to it, I recognize that.  But as long as you are riled up about some people who feel, honestly, that blacks have been held back by historical forces, and those should be reckoned with and addressed, you are going to seem to be a victim.

Continue to push back when you can if you think that their forms of addressing the injustice actually are counterproductive.  That's all you can really do.  In these days of twitter, you're going to have to get used to the blow back.

We all have to deal with it.

This is your thread and that's what you bring to the table?

Do you believe in anything?

Do you believe in severing our long-standing global alliances in exchange for solidarity with dictatorships?

Do you believe in the tariffs that are currently being paid by you and me while your president lies to your face about who's paying?

Do you believe in the month-long government shutdown in order to force the taxpayers to pay for an ineffectual wall that he promised would be born by other nations?

Do you believe in the POTUS calling the opposition party traitors?

Do you believe in the president using his position to enrich himself and his family?

Do you believe that the first amendment allows the federal government to favor one faith over another?

You sound like Tahoe and the gang from 5 years ago. Same end of the world shit, worst POTUS ever.

Curious what specific 2nd amendment question you feel is unsettled law?

This is the big one. Allowance of carrying a firearm out of your house. Would be nice if the high court would rule on it.

"Gun rights groups, led by the National Rifle Association, have sought for years to win the next battle: a broad right to carry weapons outside the home. Forty-five states allow that to some degree, though 15 require special licenses or permits. But several large states, including California, Florida, Illinois and New York, have prohibitions.

The high court has refused for nearly a decade to jump back into the gun debate, declining at least eight opportunities in recent years."

None of that is incorrect. What gets to me though is seeing this growing victimhood on the right, all the “my life is way harder because I’m white/christian/conservative/etc.” Just look at the president’s twitter and see how often he complains about the unfairness of life or how he is treated. I really do think it’s an american cultural thing. We all have to see ourselves as the underdog.

a "them" in the us vs them idiom that humans turn to in the absence of real leadership. trump supporters on surly find it with the imaginary "cabal" that they say infests the politics board, when, in fact, our politics board is full of conservative voices, it's just that they cannot support trump, because he is objectively the worst president we've ever had. this gets grouped into "them" because those criticisms are hard for people to accept when they wrap their identity in (or against) a party's idealogy.

Tell me, how does doing what that tweet mentions make one a hypocrite?

No way.  Its impossible for someone to actively support mental illness and addiction treatment for the homeless person and also support the importation of able bodied workers who are willing to do the jobs that poor Americans don't want to do.  And they aren't really depressing wages either.  Meat processing, farm work, and restaurant work all pay more than retail minimum wage.  Its hard work though and you can't half ass it on the clock like you can as a Walmart stocker or a lawyer.

Our homeless outreach system actually does very well for the few homeless that are reasonably fit and on the streets for reasons that were truly out of their control.  It fails entirely for mental illness.  It fails entirely for addiction.  You'd think that a self-styled conservative would know that you can't force non-violent mentally ill people to get treatment, you can't force non-violent substance abusers into rehab, and you can't force anyone into a shelter against their will.  "Freedom" and stuff, you know.

Of course the post also lays bare the fact that Republicans don't give a fuck about either one.  They support the separation of immigrant families and oppose the healthcare that homeless people need.  And also, if one believes that everyone is capable of picking themselves up by the "bootstraps," then didn't all those homeless actively make the "choice" to be homeless anyway?  So somebody still needs to drive by them and find someone willing to actually clean the shitter at brothahorn's office for $10/hr.

So I'll give you another chance. Explain what is hypocritical about the action mentioned in the tweet. The tweet that spoke to you so much you felt compelled to post it.

Up until this point it's not the other side that can't handle intellectual discourse on dissenting views.

White-Hispanic. White on the outside but brown on the inside.

Yeah SV is still very white but the population has changed a little. I remember years ago getting the school reports on funding and it included demographics and it was something like 89% white but that's probably closer to 75% by now. Still way too much aggy influence in the school.

Don't know where to put this:

Quote

Mayor Leffingwell, a Democrat, Endorses Conservative Challenger in District 6

Mayor Leffingwell, a Democrat, Endorses Conservative Challenger in District 6

Lee Leffingwell, the two-term Austin Mayor serving from 2009 to 2015, has endorsed a challenger to incumbent Jimmy Flannigan in the County Council election for District 6.

Leffingwell said that the challenger, Mackenzie Kelly, was a stronger supporter of law enforcement, according to a statement from Kelly’s campaign. He confirmed the endorsement in a phone call to the Austin Monitor, saying, “I’ve always been a supporter of police and full funding of the police. I’ve got to support the candidate who supports the APD.”

Without full funding for the police, “Our city won’t be as safe,” Leffingwell said.

Kelly, who has worked with emergency services with the City of Austin and Williamson County, welcomed Leffingwell’s support. “I couldn’t be more humbled to receive this endorsement from a widely respected Austin leader,” she said. “I will do everything I can to take up the torch and fight for transparency and accountable government at Austin City Hall.”

Incumbent Jimmy Flannigan won his seat in 2016 with 56% of the votes cast, besting conservative Don Zimmerman by 3,281 votes. But in a lower turnout runoff in December 2014, Flannigan lost narrowly by a margin of just 191 votes.

This year’s election will test whether the District has become deeper blue and a safer liberal seat over time, or still remains a potential battleground.

During his four-year term, Flannigan has dealt with a variety of contentious issues, some of which have bitterly divided Austinites, including a land code rewrite, homeless camping, rising property taxes, a major transit proposal, and calls to “defund” the police.

Flannigan was a strong voice for CodeNext, the land code rewrite, he voted to relax rules on homeless camping, and he has been a fierce critic of the Austin Police Department and Chief Brian Manley.

The popularity of these stances is yet to be tested at the ballot box. In order to win, Flannigan will have to garner support not only from the younger progressives and tech workers who have been moving into District 6, but also from older, more traditional Democrats.

The key question in this year’s face-off is whether traditional Democrats in the district are content with the pace of change led by Flannigan and other council progressives, or feel left behind. Leffingwell, age 80, is a military veteran who may be representative of the kind of Democrat who isn’t fully on board with the current direction of the Austin City Council, even though every member of the council is a Democrat.

Last year he came out against the homeless ordinance passed by the council with Flannigan’s support. During his time in office, Leffingwell espoused a variety of traditional left-of-center causes, including environmentalism and an expansion of transit infrastructure. But his hopes for a light rail bond were crushed decisively in a 2014 referendum.

This year, Flannigan and other council supporters are calling for a transit bond that costs about ten times as much as the 2014 proposal. CapMetro’s $10 billion light rail proposal could alleviate traffic but also would raise taxes.

Is that a tradeoff that voters are willing to accept? District 6 sits astride major north-south commuter corridors that have become increasingly congested in recent years, including US 183, Parmer Lane, and FM 620. But many District 6 voters also are homeowners who have seen their property taxes rise, owing to a mix of tax hikes and rising property valuations.

District 6 covers northwestern parts of Travis County and a southwestern corner of Williamson County.

To paraphrase the second sentence of your OP:

"Because this is what America is about. Not all of us are bitches crying about how our adversaries are being intellectually dishonest."

To me, many of the solutions that BLM advocates are exploring are not practical, or are raced focus when they should be race blind and economically needs-based.  I don't think impracticality, or even an erroneous reading of history, equals intellectual dishonesty.

In any event, my only duty is such a situation is to point out errors or impracticality.

One of my wife's black friends from grad school (UT) just told her not to worry and cops aren't racist because they kill more white people every year. She hangs out all week with her old white lady friends from a 99% white church. There were lot's more nuggets, like black people were playing victims and are too lazy to make anything out of themselves. She was raised by two middle class parents, back when the middle class was still a thing.

She voted for Trump in 2016 and shortly thereafter told my wife it was so crazy that people were saying he was racist.

She's currently single and looking, if you're single brothahorn, you guys could be a black republican power couple.

If there is a problem with the media, it is that they've mostly treated Trump with kid gloves and tried to offer "both sides" of many situations that don't really have two equal sides.  CNN regularly has people like Kelly Anne Conway on, for example.  And this has allowed bullshit like "alternative facts" to come into being.

If CNN was a father of a toddler who pulled a cat's tail, they'd have the toddler on giving his justifications for why its okay to pull the cat's tail.  In reality, it just isn't okay and the toddler needs to be told that unequivocally.

And shit is off the deep end.  We have no functional leadership and are pretty much a failed state in the midst of a global pandemic.

But conservatives can get me on their side if they start to deliver on taxes.  Take the federal income tax to zero.

FUCKING THIS.

For example, on CNN earlier, they interviewed the ghost writer of Art of the Deal.  He was talking about the SCOTUS ruling today and how this could be one step closer to dotard resigning in order to get a pardon like Ford did for Nixon.  The CNN anchor freaked out and was like, "whoa whoa whoa!  I haven't seen any reporting on that!  Let's just hold on!"

There's no "reporting" on that.  That's just how the system works and is an extremely real possibility that has been put forward for months, if not years now.

This is terrible, horrific logic if you truly believe this.

It also is dismissive of people of your own race who are fucked over by systemic racism.  Just because they communicate that to others doesn’t mean a.) they are playing the victim card and b.) they aren’t working hard to better themselves.  Moreover, there are people of your own race (me) who don’t claim to be a victim (me) but who still speak out about racial injustices (me).

You can live your life how you want and walk around being proud that you’re above other Black people because you’re a Black Republican, but it’s condescending to imply that those who aren’t Black Republicans/Conservatives do nothing but “sit around and play the race card and find a way to be a victim” and that is what makes you better compared to other Blacks.
