Can’t see it. For the last week or so some images don’t show for me. Did you post it with Tapa?

Don't worry. Just a crappy picture of the most gorgeous sunset ever. Something you get to see lots of.

I am wearing the wife down about retiring there. A few more years and I will win.

Something tells me you’ve seen more of these than I have...but damn...epic views and sunsets around here.

Damn I need another CR trip.

Yeah..the pervasiveness of this thread keeps me dying to get back down there.  I'm about a month out from the pura vida.

This is #4 of the five yellow-fin tunas I hauled in. I was the only “customer” on the boat so after number five.... I thought my arms might fall off. Ran into a pod of 500* dolphins/porpoises and tuna was going nuts.

Had a couple sailfish bites but nothing stuck.

Great times and@justhookit recs have been on point.

Fresh tuna for dinner tonight.

Will be back sooner than later...

Lots of GOOD eating. Did the mate make you a warm sashimi snack?  Nothing better than the freshest fish ever eaten while still warm.

Indeed he did!

After skimming this thread, I think I’m 100% sold on Tulemar.

Do it.  One of my favorite places on earth, sitting on that beach reading a book, drinking a Pilsen and watching the monkeys.

Curious as to what you all do with these large tunas you catch?

Someone at the dock buys them?

No, you keep and eat what you can while you are there and then you can freeze and bring back fish too. I try to keep my boat freezer down there pretty well stocked, and you can always find people down there willing to take any extra off your hands.

Here is a question for a travel newbie.  When you're booking flights, say from EST to San Jose.

Depart: 7:00 a.m. (EST)

Arrive: 1:00 p.m. (San Jose)

The sites (Expedia, Delta, etc) so something like above.  Is the arrival time in San Jose time, or EST?

FYI if you do Arenal (and you should) here is one of the best hotels in the world to bring your lady friend, same company and next to each other, I've stayed in both and had an extraordinary experience

https://www.arenalnayara.com/index.html

http://www.nayarasprings.com/index.html

Those places are amazing. I’ve also stayed at https://www.tabacon.com/ and it was very nice too.

In what resort did you stay?

We stayed here: https://www.volcanolodge.com/index.html

It was fine, nothing too special but no complaints either. This was 5 or 6 years ago though so others in the thread probably have more up-to-date recommendations.

I would suggest that anyone passing through San Jose that isn't on a strict budget stay here, though: https://www.hotelgranodeoro.com/ . Amazing hotel, one of the best I've ever stayed in.

Once I book, when will be the best time to book a flight to Costa Rica, in your expert opinions?  Some sights say 81 days for international travel.  Flights aren't even available for searching until 330 days out.  Much obliged.

Whenever you see SJO in the $375-$400 range grab it.  Just set up an alert on google flights

ETB........Make sure you do the Sloth Tour at Tulemar.  It's really cool and something I did not think I cared to do but am so glad I did it in hindsight.

And that is one beautiful beach......There is so much to do around that part of C.R. that I put the Tulemar beach pretty low on the priority list until I got down there.  I'd get up early and go down there just to spend an hour drinking coffee before we headed out for the day because I hated any missed opportunity to take it in.

Anyone recommend (or not recommend) travel insurance?  $132.00 for 4 passengers.  I'm most apprehensive about getting there on time, and wasting a day of our stay.  Example, checkin at 4:00 on Sunday, but not be able to get there until Monday b/c of travel.  Insurance would cover that.

I get a ton of travel insurance benes in my two main ccs. Getting there shouldn't be a huge issue depending on where you are flying from. I'd be more worried about an injury requiring medical if you are doing an active vacation.

Yes but depends where you are flying from. IAH, HOU, AUS, SAT, and CRP (Corpus where I usually fly from) can vary widely on the same dates. I’ll jump on anything $450 and under out of CRP but I see a lot of tickets for around 300 from the other airports.

Im usually on United but will occasionally do Southwest. Fuck American and their pricing to get down here. It gets a lot trickier trying to fly out of DFW.

and sorry I know nothing about that hotel. TripAdvisor is pretty accurate down here for hotels. Not so much on restaurants.

Unfortunately, it's NW Ohio for me.  So it will be FWA or DTW.

As far as insurance it really depends on the possibility of weather that type of year, how many flights are going that way in case of a missed connection, how many connections you have to make, and how long is the stay...eg  if you are going for 3 days and a missed connection means you lose a whole day and possibly one of your activities is very different than going for a week and simply having to shift an activity.   As far as the medical side if Im on vaca in a large metro city than Im not that worried about a major medical issue.  If Im on some island in the middle of no where or in some jungle where a major medical might cost a bundle then yeah get the insurance.

Runaways?

I'm guessing the Hook Up bar at Los Suenos.

Officially booked.  Now time to wait 11 months...

Tulemar is a great choice. As another poster said, just hanging at the beach every morning is a cool experience.

If he's still there, David (runs the beach hut at Tulemar) is a big Longhorns fan.
