Funny story (at least so I thought) about monkeys in India.  In this case, specifically, at a Buddhist temple.

The macaque monkeys will steal items of your--sunglasses, your phone, the bottle of coke you just bought, etc etc--and then scoot up a tree or anywhere else that's just out of reach.  And then the best part:  They'll return your stolen items to you if you give them some food.  I watched this happen I don't know how many times.

This is why I'm highly skeptical that size of the human brain plays as important a role in our intelligence as we tend to think.

These monkeys, with their tiny little brains, understand enough about how the world works in order to practice extortion.

just got back from arenal and really, really enjoyed our stay at nayara.  pretty special spot and i would highly recommend to anyone - particularly if you are looking for a more romantic-styled getaway.

Anyone have any recs for a place to stay that's somewhat budget friendly for 4-5 days, maybe in Arenal?  I'm going with some friends to Parador, and already spending 5 days there.  And I'd love to tack on a few days in another part of the country.  But, honestly, most of my budget is blown with Parador, so not looking for anything fancy.

I’ve only been up to that area once and it was years ago so I’m not any help. Just be aware that is about a 6 hour drive.

Thinking about taking my son for a senior trip over spring break. Will be the 2 of us and his friend plus dad

Most likely will be as much fishing as is feasible as my son is a fanatic

Any advice on where to stay / local fishing charters?

Spring Break is typically a great time to fish but if you choose Costa Rica you will want to book all your stuff as soon as possible as it gets crowded and prices are higher.

You’ll want to go to either Los Suenos/Jaco or Quepos/Manuel Antonio. They are only about an hour drive from each other and boats from both marinas fish the same areas so it doesn’t matter a whole lot which one you choose. Los Suenos has a nice Marriott property with a decent golf course or you can choose a house/condo on the resort property. You can also stay in Jaco which is a 15 minute drive and there are all kinds of lodging options there. My main dislike of Los Suenos is that it doesn’t really feel like you are in Costa Rica it’s more like being in some resort in Florida or somewhere. Quepos marina has a few condos available on site (95% sure they will already be booked) so you likely will need to stay in a house, condo, or hotel in Manuel Antonio which is a 5-15 minute drive.

Mostly inshore or offshore fishing? Great charters are available in both places and I can point you to the right boats.

My boat is in Quepos and I’d be happy to take y’all out offshore fishing for a day. I’ll be there all of December through April.
