Anyone ever visited Forever Young Records in Grand Prairie? Good or decent selections? Thought about stopping in on my way to East Dallas.....thanks

I would go just to see it and be amazed at how much vinyl and music is under that one roof. The prices are high though. But if you're looking for something and can't find it elsewhere, they might have it. Be sure to check out the room at the front of the store in the middle where all the rare and high priced vinyl is.

I've been making moves recently. I've been using Emotiva gear in the theater room and out of necessity using it to play 2-channel stuff, too. I decided to stop fucking around and just get a proper two-channel solution for vinyl and CDs. Since I picked up the B+W 802Ns partly out of appreciation for the sound, partly out of nostalgia, why not just complete the setup that captured me all those years ago and pair them with McIntosh pre/pro/amp and not look back? So that's what I did.

I've been hunting for an integrated amp in the 200W range, but I came across a deal for a 300W MA8000 in pristine condition and since the B+Ws will take as much as you can throw at them, I went for it.

I'm pretty stoked. This is dream stuff for me. Gonna spend the awhile getting to know it and be in bliss.

Added a cassette deck, too, because of course. I have an extra 4U space that needs filling...

In the physical media realm, I finally stopped by Amoeba Music in Hollywood. The selection (and store traffic) is bonkers. It's cool just milling around in there. You can come across some very interesting things. Their stock is deep and dangerous. I'll not make the mistake of visiting L.A. and not going into Amoeba again.

I've picked up way too much music to spam here, so I'll just post a pic of some signed records I snagged over the past few weeks. If the high school me saw that I now geek out over getting Loreena McKennitt's autograph I wonder how disappointed he'd be. I'd tell him to disregard the hurdy-gurdy at his peril.

No pics, but I picked up The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, as well as Zappa and the Mothers: Live at the Roxy.  This is the second time I've tried to by the Roxy record.  The first time, it came with Apostrophe accidentally included as the second record in the set (big screw up at the pressing plant).  Anyway, this time, all was correct.  Really love this album.

Anyone currently selling vintage vinyl LPs via online store on Spotify, GoDaddy or other. Friend of mine has been thru the dealer mill and is considering the online option of selling his collection himself online.

Thanks!

Has he graded all the records?  It's a lot of work, but it's going to be the first step before he's going to be able to sell online.  Discogs is a good option.

I’m a frequent buyer on discogs. I’ve had numerous good purchasing experiences and only two bad ones there where the seller was disingenuous about having the item I ordered. Both sellers eventually gave me a refund.

The older kiddo and I made a run to B.E.'s records in Ben Wheeler, TX yesterday. It did not disappoint.  He got Aja and the Herb Albert Whipped Cream album.  I came home with Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic, Talking Heads' More Songs About Buildings and Food, and The Band: Rock of Ages (This one was $15 for a double live album and I can't figure out why it was so cheap.

They had the Grateful Dead Europe 72 triple album for $40, which is a lot less than I paid for it.  Everything we looked at would have graded well as far as condition of the vinyl.  Some of his stuff was overpriced and some was underpriced.  Didn't make much sense, but who could complain.

Probably not a lot of hip-hop fans in here but this is one of the best pressings I've ever heard and I've listened to a wide range of stuff going back to the 60s.

The mixing and mastering is phenomenal and something I'm not used to for a post 2000 album on vinyl.

I went to a local record show today.  I didn't end up with anything although the Ace Frehley Kiss solo album (since it was my first album (8-track)) was tempting.  Really, at this level, it was like being in a medium-sized record store with way too many people.  Glad I went.  Wish I could have found a few things I couldn't live without.

I did pick up Fela Kuti's "Zombie" last week.  Highly recommend.

I know.  I have such a history with that album.  I saw it early on and left it, figuring I'd find something else.

Waterloo Records had 20% off of all records this weekend.

I filled some gaps in my Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam discographies, found a copy of the DJ Kicks: Kruder & Dorfmeister album, and picked up the new Kim Gordon and Hermanos Gutierrez albums.

Finally cashed in a gift card for a local store that I’ve been sitting on for like 6 months, lol.

Picked up the new Vampire Weekend record (excellent) as well as a few classics I’ve wanted forever but just never picked up.

My kids are going to Doc’s early Saturday for Record Store Day. I guess they release short run albums? Any of you have experience with this? I was looking on eBay and it seems you can get most from previous years close to same price.

That WHOLE album is a banger. I saw him once when I was in high school and he asked if anyone wanted to hear anything off his Kiss solo album expecting to hear a chorus of Rip It Out or New York Groove. I yelled "Ozone!" and he looked over at me seemingly shocked a kid would know a deep cut off that album 20 years after its release. He played Rip It Out instead because he's a notorious asshole. His whole show was killer that night.

Ace till I die.

I hadn’t thought of those songs in years. Ozone ftw.

Some are RSD only, some are ‘RSD First’ with a limited release (usually a color vinyl variant) on RSD that will have a larger release later.

These days it’s mostly a bunch of crap and most of it you can find later, but there are sometimes gems here and there.

My kids are camping out tonight to get the Chappell Roan LP. Couple things on that RSD I might be interested in.

y'all got reccos for framing vinyl? Honestly not even important that i be able to get it out, kinda just want to frame my old band's discography, which is... 2 records and probably 4 CDs.

I buy the cheaper frames at a local craft shop. They are the type with the springer clamps. Super easy to change them out if you get tired at looking at the same album. They usually come in a two pack for $20.00.

One of my kid's teachers is turning 50 and for his birthday, his classes pitched in and bought him 1 album from each year of his life.  The selection was pretty solid ranging from Dylan to Pantera and everything in between.

My kids got me a turntable for my birthday.  Nothing fancy, total base model, but I haven't owned a TT for 20 years, so this will be a good chance to dig back into my vinyl collection, which isn't small.

I'm wondering about record and stylus cleaning:  In my day, I was super proficient with a Discwasher brush (+ fluid) and stylus brush.  I see a few knockoffs of that type out there, are any of them any good?  (RCA, EVEO, Big Fudge, etc.).  I have a feeling the RCA product may be the old Discwasher product, since "D4" are in both names.

I own that big yellow plastic thing and honestly I'd just rather give it away, so don't recommend that.

I use this for a stylus cleaner

I still use the Spin Clean for record cleaning (for now), and honestly it’s still good, but if you wanna be fancy, this inexpensive ultrasonic cleaner is fairly new to the market and is generally well reviewed. It’s kinda loud when you use it, and you can only clean one at a time, but it works well.

I do think that the Discwasher stuff is still good, too, but I haven’t used it.

I buy a ton of used records. Most of them need a good scrubbing.  A couple of years ago I bought one of these.  I know it looks pretty odd but this thing is fantastic at getting records clean. After I’ve cleaned them, I only use a static brush over them while spinning on the tt.  It’s actually taken records that I thought I would have to discard to more than listenable.

Alright... thinking about going down this vinyl road.  For a player,  any prime deals that I should jump at? I played them as a kid in 80s. Haven't dabbled since. I don't have a stereo.

I looked to see if any of the Fluance tables were on sale, but they don’t appear to be.

The Technics 1200 clone by Audio Technica is ok and is on sale.

Other good entry brands are Fluance, Pro-Ject, U-Turn.

You’ll need powered speakers since you don’t have a stereo, though.

I found a deal, relatively speaking, on my grail boxed set, the super deluxe version of Metallica's Master of Puppets. They made a butt load of these things (25k), but the market doesn't seem to care that there are plenty to go around. The Holy Quintology™ is now one away from being realized.

I'm waffling about picking up those two new Bill Evans UHQRs, but if I do it's gonna be DEFCON 2 around here regarding space and where to put them. This dilemma keeps me up at night.

Not vinyl related, but I did solve my endgame SACD player needs with a pristine Mcintosh MCD500. It slots perfectly into that 4U space I had left over, but now that I see it, I'm not sure I like the fung shui of it. I think it needs to be up on top, but then I'd have to put the turntable's power supply and phono stage on top of it and fuck that.

First world problems are still problems.

That set up is amazing. Are you a MOFI One-Step completionist? If so, this might be the one that breaks you. We might've reach peak vinyl audiophile ridiculousness. It's weirdly no longer listed on their website but the image file is still there.

I've been reading the Making of Kind of Blue by Ashley Kahn to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the album's release this month. Got through the section about the recording sessions which was great. Really highlighted things to listen for in each track. I'm planning to listen today to each version of the album I have. It's one of the few albums I own that I have multiple versions of. I have the MOFI 45, the AP One Step 33, and a Sony mono release. I also have multiple SACD versions including the 5.1 Sony release. I would love to find an old 6 eye from that time period but I don't wish to break the bank. I have a sad dream that I'll some day stumble upon an estate sale where the family is selling the vinyl collection of a jazz head that would include original versions from the 50s and 60s. Best luck I've had is original Sinatra records that were well maintained.

Could you mount the power supply to the back of the cabinet?

Or you could get some panlock mounts and mount the McIntosh gear rack-style.  It is quite satisfying.

Also, jealous of that CD player.  My MA77 Tuner basically is for show (space filler) at this point.

That made me go check Discogs to see which ones I have, since I forgot.

I know I used also to have a few 60s/70s represses but sold those.

I currently have the MoFi 45, the UHQR 33, and a very early run pressing with 1-D and 1-F stampers and both printing errors (on label and jacket). The OG is beat up (probably G+) but there’s still something magical about it.

It’s actually been a while since I’ve listened to anything. Went through some shit last year and then just moved and haven’t set up my system again yet.

Soon.

Off the Wall was just announced.

https://mofi.com/collections/ultradisc-one-step/products/michael-jackson-off-the-wall-ultradisc-one-step-180g-45rpm

I like that they are broadening the catalog outside of the usual moldy oldies (which I also love). And is it just me or is Dangerous Michael Jackson's most underrated album? Would love to see that one get the MoFi SACD treatment. Slash's work on that recrd is some of his best, imo. Give In To Me is as good as anything he's ever done.
