This season doesn't REALLY count, does it?

On the same day the franchise's best position player since Ted fucking Williams signs a 12 year deal in Los Angeles, I guess it's fitting to start this thread.

(Quick aside -- Stupid fucking ownership.  Fucking luxury-tax obsessed motherfuckers.  They basically print their own money for the last two decades, and now the triumvirate of John Henry, Tom Werner, and Sam Kennedy are the collective love child of if Scrooge McDuck fucked Mr. Burns with trying to cut payroll.  Let's keep paying Pablo Sandoval and Rusney fucking Castillo, though.  Man, from 2018 to this inevitable nightmare of a so-called season... shit, what happened?  I know I really can't complain after 4 World Series titles over the span of 14 years, but the future - especially given the depletion of the farm system - is looking pretty damn bleak.)

mr burns dollar - I'd be happier with the dollar

In all honesty, best of luck to Mookie.  Even if you hate the Dodgers, it's tough for any objective baseball fan to root against that guy.  I hope he earns his contract and makes the Sox front office think about it every fucking day for the next decade.

Ok, enough of that.  It's only 60 games.  Stranger things have happened, right?

Possible lineup:

LF - Benny

DH - JDM

3B - Devers

SS - Xander

1B - 2-Bags

2B - Ice Horse

C - Vaz

RF - Alex Verdugo [😣]

CF - JBJ

(Jose Peraza, Kevin Pillar, Bobby Dalbec, and the corpse of Dustin Pedroia are all the highlights coming off the bench.)

Rotation:

Nasty Nate

Martin Perez

Ryan Weber

Brian Johnson

Matt Hall(?)

(E-Rod is still recovering from the 'rona, so he'll be eased carefully back into the rotation.)

Bullpen:

Workman (hook 'em)

Matt Barnes

Ryan Brasier

Heath Hembree

Colten Brewer

Marcus Walden

And a bunch of other schlubs... Darwinzon is still recovering from the 'rona as well.  (Fuck, it's not a good sign when two of your best arms both test positive.)

Oh, and apparently they're still gonna play Sweet Caroline to an empty Fenway during every home game.  2020 is a fucking dumpster fire of a year.  PLAY BALL!

Go Sox.

Ok, I've been a little out of the loop on baseball lately.  Forgive me.  It was just a possible lineup, after all.  Pillar could lead off as well vs. lefties.

Yeah, my relatives in Brockton, the Cape and East Bridgewater. Fuck them. They would not speak to me for years since my wife at the time was Latina. Yet they loved Jim Rice, Papi and Pedro.

Yeah, it also sucks how a so-called marquee franchise like the Yankees only has one WS title to hang its hat on this century.  Rivalry has been a bit one sided lately, maybe y'all can catch up.  But best  worst of luck finishing this disaster of a season.

E-Rod shut down for the rest of 2020.  Definitely the right move.  Best of luck to him & a safe, speedy recovery.

He has a heart condition (Myocarditis) that apparently was exacerbated by his COVID-19 bout.  Dangerous damn disease, it is.

2 titles this century. If you’re one of those “2000 was last century” people you’re the worst kind of person.

And E-Rod was perfectly healthy, the virus just fucked up his heart enough to cause myocarditis. It’s not something that’s a pre-existing condition. Pretty fucking scary.

Fun facts (small sample size, I know):

Team ERA: WORST in MLB

Hits allowed: WORST in MLB

HR allowed: 2nd worst in MLB

Team WHIP: 2nd worst in MLB

Bating avg against: WORST in MLB

So yeah, the pitching sucks.

Is this shithole of a season that totally doesn’t count (except for draft position) over yet?

They’ve given up 8+ runs in five straight games. I hear some of the young arms are gonna start throwing with their opposite arm just to see if something will stick.

Fun fact:

The Red Sox pitching staff has allowed more earned runs (124) this year than Pedro Martinez (122) did over a 3-year period in 364 fewer inning pitched

Pedro Martinez (1999-01)
547.0 IP - 122 ER

Red Sox pitchers (2020)
183.0 IP - 124 ER - 6.10 ERA

Pitchers in MLB history who opened their careers with 2 straight starts of 5+ IP, no earned runs, no more than 2 hits allowed:

Tanner Houck, 2020
Kaz Ishii, 2002

This team can't even tank right.  Out of the running for the #2 spot, so won't get either of the Vanderbilt pitchers.  Seems like the team could use some young pitching prospects...

Looks like the Dustin Pedroia era is finally, unceremoniously, coming to an end.

Sounds like he’s going to retire, according to the Boston Globe.

Heckuva player, tough few years he’s had lately.

As much as I love Dustin this is great news.  It's been obvious for a couple of years that he couldn't make it back.  It's also been painful to watch him struggle.  The guy gave his all in everything he did and it was both a pleasure and honor to get to watch him play baseball.

Roenicke not returning as manager in 2021... Alex Cora reunion possible?

Looks like it. Don’t worry mlb won’t bust you or the Yankees for cheating.

Loved watching him play. Hope he stays with the organization in some capacity.

Sad to read this today, but it was time. Thanks for a great run Pedroia.

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who hasn't played since 2019 because of a knee injury suffered two seasons earlier, announced his retirement Monday.

Pedroia, 37, a four-time All-Star who was named American Rookie of the Year in 2007 and AL MVP in 2008, played his entire 17-season professional career in the Red Sox organization. He won three World Series rings with the Red Sox and was a four-time Gold Glove winner.
