Things not going well in Chicago - a thread to discuss Portland

So your reply makes sense in that the poor kiddo obviously did not live a life privileged to be free from gun violence...but it doesn’t make sense as an answer to my question regarding if the 7yo needed a weapon, as you suggested arming more people would help.  I’m asking if adding more guns to the mix means giving pistols to first graders?

You're making it sound like a legal gun owner came over and shot this girl. I'd rather my daughter save her life than die at my feet, I'd also say that I'd rather take the life of a person who was about to shoot my daughter. Why make it harder for me to do that?

I’m not making it sound like anything, I was asking, based on your statement that more guns will help the problem, if the kid should have had a gun?  And yes any parent will do whatever necessary to save the life of their children, that’s not applicable here.  It’s horrible she died senselessly, people apparently got out of their car and blasted in the genera direction of the party...

I think more people should be able to protect themselves, and a gun is a great way to do that. If that means more guns to you? Then sure, more guns would make things better.

Seems like Chicago has many bad people.

Ideally, local/regional leadership would get together with local/regional law enforcement and plan a strategy to fix the bad people issue but that's not going to happen; too much to ask of the leadership, politics and all.

Might as well arm the population and hope they take out a few bad actors. That is a strategy...

Guns in the right hands can help the problem.

It's overly simplistic but true. Problem is, is that as soon as the word gun is mentioned, all kinds of emotions are invoked. We can't even get to a conversation because when people are pissed, the communication is at such a level that a conversation cannot  be had. We just talk/ shout past each other until things return to the status quo or there's something new to be pissed off about.

Take what I just said about guns and it's analogous to pretty much every social (and public health) issue going on in America right now. I think collectively we need to learn to listen more, even if you don't think this applies to you.

I'm not sure how the feds will have the legal authority to do so without invoking the insurrection act. This is very much a "states right" and "local control" issue

Yeah, I would agree with you...doesn't mean they're not gonna try.  I guess they'll just cut 'n paste their legal argument from Portland.  I guess Garfield Park and Washington Park have a number of federal buildings that we're all just not aware of yet.

Somebody should tell 'Workswithweed' to spray paint "Kristallnacht" on the side of something in Portland tonight in gold lettering.

Sadly, the historical reference will be lost on almost everyone.  And the one Jew in a position of power who does get the reference, will probably jerk off to the image.

I wonder why Miami isn't getting included in this """violent crime""" unilateral federal action against state and local authorities

The 2017 data i looked at and linked, Miami is actually pretty far down the list, at less than half the per capita rate as chicago, and they also have ~1/7 the population.  So the rate and volume are comparatively very low.

Ja, Kristallnacht ftw!

Unidentified federal agents deployed into cities against their will to arrest people without probable cause, criminal charges, or a record of their detention is definitely on the that spectrum, jokes aside.

Say what you want about the Sturmabteilung and their assault and detention of their own citizens based on their appearance (hint, both groups wore a lot of black---one Orthodox, the current one...rather Unorthodox).  They came as paramilitary forces, not quite police, not quite national military.  Just like DHS personnel in Portland, and soon to be Chicago.  But the S.A. had the decency to identify themselves, wore clear markings of unit and rank, and told people why they were being rounded up.  It was a horrific reason, but at least they verbalized it.  They used largely Wehrmacht-marked vehicles, not Dodge Caravans using a Secretary's Hertz Gold account.

The eeriest parallel between what's going on in Portland/Chicago and what went on in 1938, is both are receiving a particularly ominous level of media coverage.  That is to say, almost none.

You're right, calling in the brownshirts is an appropriate response to graffiti.

I’m with you. The local politicians are doing a great job with handling this issue. Violence in Chicago is a relatively new problem that will be solved soon.  The feds should encourage the local leadership to continue to just do what they are doing and not intervene.

Look, I don't think the protesters should be throwing fireworks at the feds and pointing laser pointers at them, BUT, people have been getting arrested just for standing NEAR someone else who did that.

The feds are arresting people to interrogate them for info about the person they were standing next to. No charges, no probable cause, and most worryingly no actual record or arraignment for the arrest. The feds are doing what they call "proactive" arrests where they'll take someone just because they feel that person may commit a crime.

For calling my head in the sand, y'all sure are focusing on the actions of a few to describe and justify the extrajudicial arrest of the rest of the people present exercising their right to peaceful assembly.

And further, the local authorities don't want the feds there. This is what the "no gestapo in bastrapo" people were afraid of, only this is actually happening. And it's coming to a city near you!

Those forces are treating laser lights, fireworks, and superficial damage as some sort of violent anarchist domestic terrorist act. Which is completely bullshit.

Based on many of the responses in this thread, if we end up living in a police state, it’s because we deserve it and want it.

Thats fine if that’s what you really want, but don’t ever bitch about states rights, local control, or federal overreach.

Im not downplaying the problems in these cities, but thinking the “lazy, incompetent feds” are going to ride in to the rescue takes some mental gymnastics. And no, that is not defending the status quo or local responses and some of you Einstein’s will try to claim.

Since the local authorities are doing such a bang up job, leave them alone to their own success. The citizenry will either approve or disapprove at the polls.

Don’t expect any federal help to rebuild the rubble though.

I just don't understand why not try to cut off giving them tax money till they fix it, if they can.

The sickos don't even need Roofies, just trail the 20 something lightweights out of the nearest Hand Grenade vendor and bide their time.

It's like watching Orcas hunting new born seals out for their very first swim.

You're talking passed out hotel rape, not violent assault in the alley rape, correct?   Obviously both are fucking despicable, but I never really got into the N.O. thing, so curious.  I know loads of people who grew up there, and they've regaled me with the stories of being robbed if you took a wrong turn ended up on Canal, but never spoke of rape.   Either way, I'm not very surprised.

If we would legalize drugs then we would remove the income source/war for the gangs and most of this bullshit would go away.

If the federal intervention is narrowly focused on addressing gang violence, fucking fantastic! If the gang violence is just a fucking excuse to go in and arrest people who are protesting that black people shouldn't be killed by police officers, then it's a terrible idea. That being said, the man dispatching the gestapo doesn't give a fuck about black people killing each other, so I'm guessing the latter is the more likely outcome.

Good thing the police are being defunded!

If we didn't have to pay for the officers to deal with bullshit penny-ante shit like mental health calls, Karens complaining about black people having bbqs, and other shit better handled by specialists, perhaps we could redirect more money to police to address more serious issues like gang violence. Defunding the police isn't about getting rid of cops, it's about better distributing the funding so that cops do cop shit, mental health people do mental health shit, social workers do social worker shit, etc. But you probably knew that and just wanted to be a smarmy dipshit.

What if the citizenry elects people that want to rebuild the rubble? Or is this one of those "if you don't believe in my vision of America, then the rights protected by the constitution don't apply to you. They only apply to me"? Sounds kinda, I don't know, fascist?

This is the part that I don't understand. Have only read this page of the thread, I'm sure it's been brought up before, but what exactly are they supposed to be doing there? CBP are going to war with gangs? I fucking doubt it. You think DHS or whoever is running this has a plan that the local PD (and FBI and whoever else) hasn't already tried? Trump's DHS? And as you said, that's assuming they actually want to "fix" the crime/drug problem (they don't).

They'll arrest whatever young people they want, label them antifa because they're protesting, and then fat fuck will hit the airwaves and tell everyone he's cleaning up the inner-cities. (ir)Regardless of what is actually happening. Optics, baby.

Lmao that's a new one, but I'm simply reciting the facts to you. Irregular military forces have been deployed in a "law enforcement" action to protect federal landmarks and buildings from the "violent anarchists". People have been getting illegally arrested for the act of being outside, and DHS has even copped to lacking probable cause or justification to detain many of the people they snatched.

Being against the rise of American facism does not mean someone is "antifa", because you (specifically) are also implying that I am a domestic terrorist, per their current definition by EO. So go lick some boots if you prefer to sling shit and defend unconstitutional acts rather than take it seriously.

Lol....

As for "wanting them there".....that's coming from the politicians, not the LE.  The Portland City Council has completely forbidden the Portland Police from cooperating with federal law enforcement.  The rioters know this, hence their unfettered actions.  The federal troops were sent to protect FEDERAL property and employees in that courthouse because the mayor and local authorities refused or were told not to do it. They aren't an occupying force in any sense of the word, further the "protestors" have been unruly and destructive for weeks. This is not a peaceful protest.

I believe that's why you want the police defunded.  What I do not believe is that is why Antifa or BLM, and those financing them want the police defunded.  These people are Marxists.  They have openly admitted as such.  They want to overthrow the government of the United States.

I am no boot licker, and I hardly love our president, but I would like to fix our problems without throwing the baby out with the bath water.  There are some seeking revolution, and am shocked at how many "reasonable" people are in support.

Because this is ACTUALLY happening, unlike the Jade Helm gestapo in Bastrapo conspiracy theories you practically had a stroke over.

Or did Facebook tell you there's another Black Lives Matter gang going to tear down a Sam Houston statue so you have to go defend it against a fake conspiracy and now you're too busy?

1) I'm anti-fascist in the sense that I'm against fascism, and I am Black Lives Matter because I think that black people should be afforded the same rights and protections as white people, and that they shouldn't have to be afraid of the police murdering them for passing a counterfeit bill or similarly insignificant bullshit. My reasons for defunding, or re-appropriating funding are somewhat based in those beliefs. But mostly based on common-fucking sense.

2) So you love the President just a little?

3) Perhaps you're shocked at the support of sweeping, revolutionary change ensuring the equal protection of all Americans because those are "reasonable" requests. Perhaps your belief that the contrary should be true is the unreasonable position?
