Long read - The state of the new Cold War with China - China's economic response is forming under a doctrine called the "Dual Circulation Strategy."  https://www.noemamag.com/chinas-radical-new-vision-of-globalization/

China’s Radical New Vision Of Globalization

President Xi’s vision of “dual circulation” is a darkly pessimistic economic strategy, fit for a new Cold War.

SINGAPORE — Back in August, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with a group of economists in Beijing. “In the coming period, we will face more and more headwinds,” he explained, using unusually blunt language. Without naming names, Xi talked about China’s worsening trade and technology war with the United States under President Donald Trump, set against a backdrop of growing certainty in Beijing that America is bent on containing his nation’s geopolitical rise.

they are ripping Australia a new asshole and its getting really old. Very clearly using Australia as a whipping boy (out of anger and out of the ability to do so). just banned aussie coal today and have been speaking rather harshly since the virus came under control there

I am genuinely afraid the later stages of this conflict are state-sponsored cyber terrorism. Both at the state and the general population. Hope this spat ends soon because it is nerve racking

Messing with Sweden too. Look, I'm sure the Nordic countries have flaws, but come on.  Pick on someone your own size, Communist government of China!

“We treat our friends with fine wine,” said the man in black suit from his armchair, adding, “but for our enemies we got shotguns.” This is not a line from the latest blockbuster gangster movie, but a message from China’s ambassador to Sweden, speaking directly to Swedish public radio.

The above line is only one of several threats Ambassador Gui Congyou has been busy issuing since Swedish PEN announced in early November that kidnapped Swedish publisher Gui Minhai will receive the Tucholsky Prize — an annual award to writers and publicists living under threat or in exile — this year.

If you don’t think China is already engaged in that there I don’t know what to tell you. You may not see it’s impact right now, but you will at some point. Probably soon.

Ya know, I was just thinking that. Nixon has been credited with re opening that east west relationship. I'm beginning to think that was part of the PRCs

plan all along.

I say the entire world should pull out, and go to Viet Nam, Korea, Mexico, anywhere but that shit hole.  There needs to be a reckoning for the shit they've caused around the globe with this virus.

It kinda helped end the Vietnam War though.  Now that they were "legit," China didn't need to fight their proxy war.  Solutions create problems, and we can hardly make decisions today based on presumed butterfly effects 50 years from now.

If Eisenhower had accepted Ho Chi Minh’s overtures in the early 1950s to help him thwart Vietnam’s enemy, the PRC, then that would’ve changed things too. Instead, we got a divided Vietnam, with the north allying itself with the Soviets, not the PRC.

But Ike thought all commies were the same, but they were not (aren’t).
