Not sure if already posted, but we have significantly more information about how the events unfolded.
1. He was in fact armed with a knife (you can hear in the video someone told him to drop the knife, which was why the cops were called in the first place)
2. They had attempted to restrain him on the other side of the car but the original edited video doesn't show that.
3. They knew he was a violent felon with warrant for having a gun
4. Did not try to escape but tried reaching under his seat (where a lot of people store their guns)
5. He was not breaking up a fight, but was actively brandishing a knife, thus the police call.
6. A taser had been deployed but failed.
So when he had a knife, had a warrant for brandishing a gun before, and acted like he was going to get his gun?  Maybe don't do those three things before getting into a fight with a cop that was called on you.  They weren't just driving by and happened to see something and stopped.
1. I still dont understand how 3 cops could not restrain the dude...

2. Was he placed under arrest and Marandized? If not, was there a right to restrain him?

3. Why grab his shirt? What tactic is that?

4. Why do I never see white dudes getting shot when they have guns, warrants, or should be perceived as threats? (I'd prefer to see nobody getting shot, but that isn't happening).

You mean to tell me that everyone rushed to judgement before waiting for facts? Surely this is a first, right?

apparently you don't twitter.   they saw black guy, knew he had a knife and said "awesome, this is my opportunity to kill someone."

They tried, as the subsequent video indicated.  He was armed with a knife - more specifically as I have heard, a karambit.  If so, they are nasty.  Designed to slash rather than puncture.  Very deadly if the user knows what they are doing and the finger loop makes it extremely difficult to disarm the user (by design).

Guessing the shirt grabbing was a last ditch effort to keep him away from the vehicle where they presumed a firearm was being stored.

My guess is body cam footage will reveal even more if it exists....especially any reference from Blake about "my gun"., etc.

I still say a golden opportunity was missed when he presented his back to the officer as the car door was opened for a rear naked choke and sleepy time.

It is my understanding that they don't have body cams.  They have a mic that is synched to their respective dash cams only.

did the guy still have the knife as he was walking to the drivers side door?  that might put trying a chokehold in doubt plus when you get that close to someone who isn't complying you give them a potential opportunity to take your weapon.

also, tasers are getting close to being worthless, IMO.

Thanks for the update.

I'm still clueless as to why they let him walk away before deciding to shoot.

Shitty police work. Jacob may not exactly be an innocent victim. Seems like we've been down this road before.

"more specifically as I have heard" = looking at Twitter

We don't know what he was carrying. We do know, because we can see it with our eyes, that at no point is he trying to attack officers. He's trying to leave. Nothing ever happens in any of the videos we have seen that produces a reasonable fear for the officers' lives.

In legal terms? Any fear a cop has is reasonable because the law loves cops and so do judges and juries.

In actual, rational human terms? Nothing happened that warrants this imperfect man's execution.

Not sure it's worth burning a city over.

au contraire,  Lebron already told us this event is why they are mad at cops.  they just indiscriminately kill black men(and only black men) everywhere.

Many precincts are no longer allowed to choke/grab suspects to restrain them....a massive, massive miss in my estimation.  That leaves blows or body-weight to subdue someone.  Or tasing, as seen.  Problem is, a man facing a pistol, having just fought off three officers, that just walks away...what do you do in a matter of roughly 2-3 seconds?  By the time he's gotten to the door and was reaching down, they panicked.

There's also... let them leave and just follow them until you can safely apprehend them.

This requires patience and swallowing pride.

The pistol isn't the man's fault. That's on the cop. That guy is not responsible for the cop's unnecessary elevation, that's on the cop.

The man, as far as I can see in all videos, never makes an offensive move at the cops. He fights them off and walks away. That's it.

Murdering pigs.

There were kids in the car he was possibly getting into (or getting a gun). The cops likely didn't know whose kids they were. Even if they did, you let him go?

Nothing you said here contradicts with anything I've said. Not sure what your point is other than virtue signalling your own superiority over these people.

People are not rational decision makers. A well-structured society takes this into account.

Was there any indication he was going to hurt them? Had he hurt anyone with a weapon? Had he even tried to?

I'm not taking a stance on this until a lot more comes out, but what kind of bullshit plan is this?  When does this safe apprehension come?  Where?  If he needs to be apprehended and is resisting, what makes you think it will happen safely later?

You're basically advocating for this to turn into a high speed police chase or hostage situation.

Never.  Not ever.  I repeat ever is this allowed.  A suspect brandishing a knife after 911 was called on him, who fought off LE officers, was tased, and had prior warrants for gun possession and made threatening movements for where a gun is typically stored in a vehicle.  Yeah, no.

To be fair it sounds like they knew he was a violent criminal so they may have known it was his car and maybe his kids.  Doesn't matter though, as I don't expect cops to let people drive away with kids in the car after brandishing a weapon.

Here we are though, arguing why or why not the cops should be concerned with kids in the car and not questioning why the man was brandishing a weapon, ignoring multiple efforts from law enforcement and then reaching under his seat for what may or may not have been a gun.  Apparently we should just let criminals go and wait for them to turn themselves in.

Because he will cool down. It's what people do briefly after extremely charged moments. They know who he is. They know where he lives. Follow him.

It doesn't validate their ego. It hurts their self-image if they are disobeyed then have to NOT follow up with violence, but it's how they should handle it.

De-escalate. It's safer for everyone to de-escalate.

Only if the cops make it that way.

Why would this guy be threatening to kill his own kids? What the fuck are you talking about?

Was he "brandishing" a knife? Did he make "threatening movements for where a gun is typically stored"?

If someone is so fear-dominated that they have to kill a potential deadly threat before even seeing evidence that the deadly threat actually exists they shouldn't be a cop. They shouldn't have that power.

We can see the video with our own eyes. He fights off the cops and walks away from them. He is going into his car. If he pulls a gun, shoot him. If he swipes at the cops, shoot him. If he goes for the kids, shoot him. Wait until a threat exists before executing an American citizen.

28 minutes ago, Cheeseweasel said:

No I wouldn't be OK with the murder of children. I'm also not OK with the murder of a man because cops scare themselves to someone else's death.

If I were fear-dominated enough, I could imagine deadly threats everywhere and leave a trail of bodies and have "I WAS SCARED!" testimonies for each one of them.

Or follow them and apprehend them when it's safer to do so. Which is actually a very normal suggestion that you have to lie about because you understand how normal and reasonable it is.

Eyewitness...

------------------------
The bystander who recorded the video posted on social media, Raysean White, 22, said the incident first caught his attention when he heard a group of women arguing across the street from his apartment.

"Then the guy that got shot showed up," White said in an interview. "He pulled up in his truck, got out his truck, seen him walk up. His son was running towards him. He was picking up his son. He told his son to get in the gray truck, we about to go."
------------------------

Is there any reason I'm supposed to believe this guy is so likely to kill his own kids that cops were justified when firing bullets into the same car where those kids were?

(If you can make your point without slurs, you get bonus points.)

They say that they're anti-Fascist, yet keep using Brownshirt tactics:

2) In Adams Morgan, protesters screamed at Lauren B. Victor for several minutes for refusing to raise her fist with them. “Are you a Christian?” a female protester demanded. “Good for you — you stood your ground," Chuck Modiano said sarcastically as the crowd moved on.

3) Modiano, who had been yelling at Victor and moments later identified himself as a citizen journalist who writes for @Deadspin, told Victor he couldn’t understand why she was the only diner in the area who wouldn’t comply. “What was in you, you couldn’t do this?”

4) “I felt I was under attack,” Victor, an urban planner, said, adding that she felt there was something wrong about being coerced to show support.

5) “In the moment, it didn’t feel right,” Victor said, adding that she also could understand their anger. “I wasn’t actually frightened. I didn’t think they’d do anything to me,” she said. “I’m very much with them. I’ve been marching with them for weeks and weeks and weeks."
