That Jack Rodwell deal is a real anchor. I doubt he'll be on the roster next season but there is no way you can have a dude on £70k per week in League One, much less the Championship. Some of the comments he made were pretty mind bottling too.

His deal finally drops to around £40k/week for the 2018-2019 season (final year of the deal), but yes, his signing (£10m from City) and 5 year deal were amazing failures.

Quick clarification on Chelsea-Pool:

Liverpool has 2 games left - @Chelsea and Brighton

Chelsea has a game in hand - Liverpool, Huddersfield and @Newcastle

If Chelsea wins Sunday, they will have a chance to jump into 4th place by winning out, regardless of Liverpool's final result.

Not quite right. All Liverpool needs is three points and we tie (and Liverpool goes thru on goal diff)

Bitchassedness alert.  I don't link things for reasons that are not relevant to the content I post.  One might hope you would not be confused by the following.

It is the dream transfer: Christian Pulisic leaves Borussia Dortmund for Liverpool.

Pulisic is reunited at Liverpool with German manager Jurgen Klopp, who was at Borussia Dortmund when Pulisic turned pro in 2015.

Pulisic joins the most prolific trio in UEFA Champions League history, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, with 29 goals between them this season.

Pulisic moves to the most identifiably American club in the EPL, owned by Fenway Sports Group, owner of the Boston Red Sox. (Even Lebron James has a minority share in the club.)

The German tabloid Bild revived talk of a move when it reported that Klopp will bid to sign the 19-year-old Pulisic, who still has two years left on his contract. It reported that Dortmund wants $72 million for Pulisic.

Dream transfer: Pulisic to Liverpool, too good to be true?

It just happens to be too good to be true.

“I am in constant exchange with Jurgen Klopp,” said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc, "but I am not aware of this."

The folks at Fenway Sports Group hit home runs with the moves for Firmino in July 2015, Mane in July 2016, Salah in July 2017, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in August 2017 and Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

Liverpool already has a deal in place to bring Guinean midfielder Naby Keita from RB Leipzig for a minimum of $65 million as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho this summer.

Between the money they got from Barcelona for Coutinho and the money they will get for their Champions League run, the Reds will have plenty of money left over to make a run at Pulisic. But they will likely want to move Mane or Salah before considering a bid for the Klopp favorite.

That does not mean Pulisic won't move to Anfield.

The dream transfer just won't likely happen this summer.

for fellow bitchassed USians (i might as well go full gonzo)....

tomorrow's national broadcasting corporation slate:

0630 NBCSN - must watch - Stoke, played 36, on 30, host safePalace; Stoke live to match 46 with a draw, but with a loss are potentially relegated by a Soton win @Everton 3 hours later

0900 NBCSN - must watch - Swansea, played 35, on 33, @safeBournemouth; nothing can be decided for Swansea on the day, but a win on the road drags Ham and Hudd in to the mire pending their results.

1130 NBC - must watch - Soton, played 35, on 32, @suddenlyinwiththeslimmestchancetopipBurnleyforEuropaEverton; again, a win on the road is bad for Ham and Hudd; Burnley/Arsenal is Sunday, so Everton will want 3 as badly as Soton, and hope Arsenal gets a dead cat bounce from Thursday and keeps the last Europa spot in play.  Anything less than 3 for Everton tomorrow and european nights at Turf Moor are confirmed.  I like Sean Dyche.  Burnley are going to have a hard time keeping him.

Given the Baggies form, I was worried about Spurs dropping this one especially if they had a chance late.

Hell of a run they have had:

Swansea City - D
@ManU - W
Liverpool - D
@Newcastle - W
Spurs - W

I'm pulling for Everton just to give West Brom a chance.

justa reminder that everton need 2 wins by 13 goals and 2 burnley losses for the last europa slot so this lollygag by everton to start bodes well for soton.... everton are not going for it and have thrown in the towel.

congratulations motherhumping BURNLEY for making europe.  from their wiki:

Burnley F.C. (/ˈbɜːrnli/) is a professional association football club based in Burnley, Lancashire, England. Founded in 1882, the club plays in the Premier League, the first tier of English football. Nicknamed The Clarets, due to the dominant colour of their home shirts, they were one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888.[1]

Burnley have been champions of England twice, in 1920–21[2] and 1959–60,[3] have won the FA Cup once, in 1914, and have won the Community Shield twice, in 1960 and 1973. The Clarets also reached the 1961 quarter-finals of the European Cup. They are one of only five teams to have won all top four professional divisions of English football, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End, Sheffield United and Portsmouth.[4]

Burnley have played home games at Turf Moor since 17 February 1883.[5] The club colours of claret and blue were adopted prior to the 1910–11 season in tribute to the dominant club of English football at the time, Aston Villa.[6]

Their current manager, Sean Dyche, was appointed on 30 October 2012.[7]

Oh my. Poor poor Southampton. After all the brilliance from their keeper. To concede off your own man.

Swansea and Southampton on Tuesday for all the marbles.

Oh damn. Southampton have City to end the season? And Swansea gets already relegated Stoke. Hell Stoke will probably do their best to bring Swansea down with them.

The Championships' Final Day is today!!! And play is about an hour in.

We know the top and bottom - Wolverhampton is the champion and getting promoted. Sunderland are dead last and being demoted. In an interesting twist, Sunderland is hosting Wolverhampton and are winning 2-0.

What else:

2nd place and automatic promotion/3rd place and the playoff: Cardiff City 89 pts and +30 GD, Fulham 88/+35

Cardiff gets promoted with a win or Fulham loss. Fulham get's promoted with a win and Cardiff draw or any result and a Cardiff loss. Their games:

Cardiff City 0, Reading 0
Birmingham 2, Fulham 0

The final playoff spot is also up for grabs: Derby County 72/+19, Preston 70/+10

This one is simple, Preston gets the last spot with a win and a Derby County loss, otherwise Derby County is in the playoff.

Derby County 3, Barnsley 0
Preston (RC) 1, Burton 1

The other teams in the playoff - Aston Villa and Middlesbrough

Championship relegation, different matter. Again, Sunderland is down, but the other two teams are one of 5:

Reading 43/-22
Birmingham 43/-32
Barnsley 41/-21
Burton 41/-42
Bolton 40/-36

There are a lot of permutations, so let's look at the games and sort it out later:

Cardiff City 0, Reading 0
Birmingham 2, Fulham 0
Derby County 4, Barnsley 0 (yes they scored another)
Preston (RC) 1, Burton 1
Bolton 1, Nottingham Forest 2

With these results, Bolton would go down as would Barnsley.
