Any LCDC's on surly? I'm in recovery myself and always wanted to pursue this field. I am very blessed and lucky to have a corporate 9-5 job right now, but I'm burnout. I have read up on the field and what is required, but I wanted to hear about it from the horse's mouth. Thanks!

I'm not an LCDC but know and work with several.

It can be pretty rewarding, but it's a pretty big time commitment (first you need to become an LCDC-Intern and then get, I think, 3000 or 4000 hours of supervised experienced by an LCDC Supervisor to be eligible for the LCDC) and the pay is...not great.  Look for yourself - type in LCDC or chemical dependency here:

If you're pulling down $50,000 a year as an LCDC, you're doing pretty well.  In other words, you're not going to get rich doing this kind of work (like most of the non-medical helping professions).

But if money isn't an issue, it can be pretty rewarding work in other ways, so I'm told.

Whatever you decide, good luck.
