Yeah, in my Methodist church, we were explicitly taught about other religions and schools of Christian thought.

Inevitably, that raised the question "are we right and they are wrong?"  The uniform response was that "we believe we are right, but that doesn't necessarily mean anyone else is wrong, they just may have a different path."  There was nothing even approaching "our way is the only way and the rest are fucked."  That may have been deeply implicit somewhere, but it was never said out loud.

I have racked my brain and I cannot think of a single prejudice that was instilled or reinforced by my church upbringing.

Methodists are usually adamant about not being adamant. It will be interesting to see how that holds up with the new GMC denomination.

I've been tracking the formation of the GMC. They seem to be sliding further towards an episcopacy structure that doesn't allow for a divergence of views while the UMC is sliding a little towards congregationalism to maintain a divergence of views.

I have noticed that there are a number of people bringing their grievances into the GMC with their biggest gripe being the "openess" of the UMC. There are some that want to drop the Wesleyan quadrilateral and adopt the Anglican three leg approach since Christian experience can lead to relativism.

If there was a substance out there that was occasionally tasty and nourishing, but more often made you violently shit blood for days....would you keep ingesting it?  Would you recommend that others ingest it?

Isn't this the theme of the Steel Shank thread?

But, and this is an important point, the right to consume Allsup's burritos is protected by the First Amendment.  Look, man....you commune with God your way, I'll commune with God MY way.
