The way too early prediction poll

  1. 1. How many regular season games will Texas win in Tom Herman's second year?

    • 6 or under (I love being miserable)
    • 7 (I remain pessimistic until proven otherwise)
    • 8 (I am reasonable and expect moderate improvements)
    • 9 (Seems high, but it's not)
    • 10 (Koolaid intensifies)
    • 11 (We are reaching unfathomable levels of winning)
    • 12 (Show me a loss)

I've got a new couch. Plan on enjoying the hell out of watching football from it.

And that's really the big thing -- for the first time in a decade, I feel confident that I am going to enjoy the majority of the season; how much is an open question, but I am pretty sure it will on balance be positive.

I went with 10 wins. That includes the bowl game but does not include a conference championship game. I see us at 10-3. Only two things can screw this up.

1) Tim Beck and mediocrities scattered elsewhere on the offensive staff.

2) A slew of injuries at QB.

I think Texas beats USC.

I'm picking 8 + bowl win. The early FPI data suggests an 8-9 win regular season, the highest prediction for us in years. The other metrics will likely suggest a similar range for us, like Bill Connelly's S&P+.

I'm unsure about our depth at LB, RB, and the offensive line under Herman hasn't ever remained healthy. On the other hand, I like our schedule more this year and our offense won't be putting freshmen out there  (hopefully). I trust Orlando to keep building the defense, and for Ehlinger to make fewer mistakes.

USC's offense in spring ball looks like dog shit. It's also looking very likely they start a freshman QB in Austin.

If that's the case, I like our chances with Orlando, at home, against a freshman Quarterback.

Going with 8 for now, but I could see myself revising upward or downward by 1 win upon the conclusion of fall camp. The thing that gives me pause isn't necessarily the coaching (which I've already built into my prediction), but the fact that our roster still doesn't have the necessary combination of depth and/or experience in several position groups. Also, Herman's teams are known for their injury issues, and we'll need good luck in that department during fall camp.

I'm going to assume we lose at least one O line starter for the majority of the season (just hope it isn't Anderson), Sam won't play all 12 games, and I'm pessimistic about the specialists.

Losses are @KSU, TCU, WVU and USC.

We are going to win at least 9 this year. I went with 10. We don't go against as many experienced Qb's this year like we did last year and our line play should get better. I think we're going to have a lot of happy fans by the end of the season.

If we don't have a slew of injuries on defense we have a chance to win 10 or more.  I am going to think 1963 DKR and Mike Campbell.  If the other team can't score they can't beat you.  In the Big 12 teams will score and score a lot, but I see us winning low scoring games.  It won't be typical Big 12 style, but we held the GOAT Mayfield OU team in check last year until the fucking Andrews wheel route.  We held Okie light to 10 points in regulation.  I don't believe Orlando will allow any Maryland shit shows this year.  I am stoked and sipping the koolaid.

I see CTJ can’t be bothered to read the thread title.

9 wins.

Offense finally gets it going, we run the ball all over everyone. Defense isn't as awesome without great linebacker play.

WVU and two of KSU/USC/TCU beat us, all close games. Maybe we actually win close games this year and win 11.

Either way, better bowl game and another W in the bowl as well.

People will still bitch about playcalling, but Herman/Hand will have taken over at this point so there cant be as much crying about Beck.

IIRC I was the lone person to predict 7-6 before last season started in that poll. Might've been one other person, but not more than that.

This year I'm picking a 7-5 regular season finish. A win over OU but a WTF loss to Baylor included. I also think UT loses the bowl game to once again finish 7-6. Hopefully that gets Beck out of here.

I’d prefer winning with Beck instead of fantasizing about losing to get rid of Beck.

I picked 10 (bowl win takes us to 10-3) and immediately wanted it lowered to 9 when I saw that pederast banner flying blowhard there with me.

10 wins. All of my faith is in Orlando and growth at QB and OL. Herman will take over play calling after shit show offensively at Maryland. This is what I choose to believe.

We lose to Maryland and Herman can start packing...

There are a couple ways to answer this.

1. How many wins do you think are practical

2. How many wins should we expect to see based on real progress and not just smoke and mirrors

3. Minimum acceptable before we burn it down again

I put down 9 wins and used method 2.

1. 10. 11 is doable.

2. Expect 9 based solely on real progress inclusive of bowl. I bet we get 1 on smoke and mirrors (that means we have a coach, unlike unlucky Charlie). 11 wins would be 2 smoke and mirror wins.

3. 8 wins inclusive of bowl. I can’t take 6-6 pre-bowl, yet again, or even 7-5 without a bowl win.

The defense will win it's fair share of games as the offense finds it's bearings... 10-2 for the Longhorns this year is my guess...

Are we landing Tre Watson and Tabari Hines, which would give us more reliability and firepower on offense? Does Nelson stick around and give us more DL depth?

Going with nine regular season wins for now, but I'd feel better about it if we landed and kept the names above.

9 wins. We beat Maryland last year and we're already at 8. Beat Tech and we have 9. With Orlando's defense operating at full strength throughout the year and not having the first game issue, I think we don't have the same issue we did last season. I also think we beat USC this year. J.T. McDaniels is going to look like a stud by the end of next year but I pity the QB thrown into the face our D in the third game of his freshman year. That gives us 10. I think we beat OkSt and lose to WVU unfortunately. I think we lose to TCU and OU again. If I had to guess I think those three and one random game I think we won are our losses so we go 9-4.

Herman wins our big games this year (USC and OU) but we also fall to a couple of teams we should really beat (two of Tech, Baylor (most likely if coming off win at RRR), ISU) losses to TCU, KSU (purple wizard voodoo) and a bowl win.
9-4

I voted 9, but think we can get to 10.  All the talk of how good our players looked coming out of winter conditioning has me cautiously excited, but its going to depend on the Oline again.  If the Oline can be just be solid and consistent then I think 10 is possible with Orlando's D.
