Gotdam Lavatory Drain Plugs

TwiceHorn

Recommended Posts

We have some Price Pfister hardware on our bathroom sinks/lavatories.

The drain plugs are the fiddliest goddamn simple things I think I have ever had the displeasure to work on.

This is just to remove them to unclog slow drains.

Putting them back together is like watchmaking.

Mother.  Fuck.

Addendum.  It looks like all the major faucet makers use a similar design, and our builder's plumber jury-rigged the thing considerably, making it harder to use.

Got.  Damn.  Whatever happened to the things with the jointed arm that went down the pipe?  Never had any trouble with those.

removing a drain plug to unclog a drain seems logical...

Perhaps stopper is a more appropriate term.  Because of the dogshit design, it looks like this:

And there was a bunch of soap scum clotted all over the damn thing.  It's also brushed nickel and I don't think you want to pour a bunch of caustic shit on/around it to unclog the drain.

I started by cleaning the plugs/stoppers and pouring boiling water down the drain, which is the recommended process to avoid pipe damage.  I did eventually go with some caustic shit.
