Just wait until they use next year's high 1st rounder on an OL or WR.

It doesn't really matter.  You don't build your team with one pick.  When they finally had a good OL for a few years so many people were celebrating Will McClay because our first rounders were good, but that's all that was good.  Rounds 2-7 have been shit outside of landing Dak.

Only in Dallas can the defense give up 49 points and people want to draft more offense.

It was a shit-show on both sides. The Cowboys had about 220 yards and 14 points in the first three quarters yesterday.

Prescott was on pace for a 330 passing yard game through three quarters yesterday. 330 per game over 16 games would be the third most prolific passing season in NFL history.

"but he doesn't do enough when it matters!"

😂😂😂

This is why Cowboys fans are a meme amongst the football world.

It doesn't matter who the coach is, who the players are, who the quarterback is, what scheme we run. The entitled nature of this entire clubhouse starts at the top with mr jones. You have a football team that wins a championship every August so they feel like they don't need to play once the season starts. It will never change under this ownership. Ever.

Did you like those 3 superbowls?  I hope you did very much.

Everyone who says Dak is the problem? Last time the Cowboys won scoring less than 30 points was in the year 2018.

Gave up the most rushing yards yesterday in Cowboys history.

Dak isn’t the problem but the offense isn’t completely blameless. We knew the defense was bad coming into the year. As an offense, we lead the league in turnovers with 9, and when you really think about some of these games, we should’ve turned the ball over more. The defense is historically bad. The offense isn’t completely blameless.

When you're playing a team who was averaging 25 points per game which would equate to about 19 points thru 3 quarters.  You're sort of hoping you're not down by 27 points as they've already scored their 41.

That typed, we do need an upgrade in offensive line badly and probably will be forced to spend a high pick there.  I'm hopeful Biadasz can learn on the job and nail down the center position but with Collins' unknown medical issue, Tyron's age and back, and Williams' inability to make the next jump in development, it's clear we need to upgrade the talent and depth of the OL.

The bullshit fanboy hype about the Nolan hire for DC was "he can coach any defensive scheme!"

Yes he can, like Toonces the Cat can drive any car.

This was a terrible hire. I hated it. Made zero sense. Hell Rod's defenses were not even this bad. But it isn't all scheme. Another year of being sold on how deep and talented this DL is and another year of getting pounded on the run with ease. They are disgusting to watch.

It certainly isn't all scheme, but any reasonably intelligent coach with the decades of experience Nolan has would be able to cobble something resembling a somewhat less-than-average, but far from worst in NFL history, defense if he were worth a rat's ass.

I'm fine with firing Nolan but this D is so comically bad, that there has got to be something rotten with the players.  Nolan couldn't have done this much damage if he tried.

I’ve come around to the idea that the players just aren’t very good. JJ has invested a lot of money on athletes that look like they should be good but are in fact not football players. There are athletes wearing a football uniform.

we’re 6-11 in our last 17 games.  it’s pretty obvious he does not do what it takes to win when it matters.  sure, it’s a nice parlor trick that he throws for a million yards when games are already lost.  but good quarterbacks do it when it counts.

I knew it was a terrible hire as soon as I heard the reasoning. When Mike Nolan was HC of the 49ers, he made McCarthy his OC. It was the first coordinator job McCarthy ever had. He always said if the opportunity presented itself, he would return the favor. This is him returning the favor. I don’t know how true that story is, but if it is true, JFC.

There are people who hate Dak and will blame him for every single loss and give him no credit. I don't even bother replying to them anymore. They are just trolling at this point. Every mistake is magnified for him because he gets zero help from his defense and special teams. We get no turnovers or any big special teams plays. And the defense lets any turnover into points. At some point, step up and make stop. Fucking pussy ass defense.

The fact we score so many points starting in overall terrible field position is amazing in itself.

This is the same argument CFB fans make for their air-raid QB's.  Shit ton on yards between the 20's, little hardware to show when it mattered.  It also engenders shitty D's at times because the pace can so heightened, even sustained drives are short and they were right back out on the field.  Quoting yards, on both the offense and defense, in a historical context is disingenuous.  Modern offenses are so prolific that aggregate yards mean little other than in comparison to other teams in the same season.

I think Dak is a "good" QB, with many similarities to Wilson @ Seattle.  He's not even close to elite

obviously kidding since that’s not his fault necessarily, but I would be curious to see what that looked like. You have to admit that sometimes it takes Dak a minute to get into the flow of the game, and if he’s going to make a bad mistake, it’s going to happen in the first half of a close game.

To the earlier point about TOP/drive - this is interesting.  Sourced through 9/29/2020

Look at DAL @ 4th overall in # of offensive drives, but keeping company with other defensively inept teams with some of the lowest minutes/drive.  Lots of short drives, putting the defense right back out on the field.

I was willing to give McCarthy a chance but yeah it’s over he’s as bad as anyone Jerry could ever manage to consider. There will always be good defenses and bad defenses but no team with NFL caliber athletes should ever be this bad. But here we are. The worst professional defense I’ve ever seen. And a part of our fanbase still blame Dak Prescott. We deserve Jerry because our fans are dumber than him.

Demarcus Lawrence on recent criticism-

"F**k all yall. I play my heart out for the Cowboys and my brothers. With playing through injuries since Day 1. If you don't see me enough stop watching stats and watch the game."

Bro, you have 0.5 sacks in the last 11 games. You get paid like Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald and Von Miller. Everyone on our D points the finger at someone else. F em.

I don't think anybody "blames" Dak, but rather point out that he's not the savior many make him out to be nor is he worth the money being floated out there to lock him down when there are so many other holes on the team

I'm no expert on LB play, but Joe Thomas also stands as still as a statue for like 3 seconds, waits for an OG to come find him after chipping a DL, then proceeds to get completely mauled by that OG.

Tyrone Crawford gets pushed back about 5 yards. Antwuan Woods tries to tackle the center or something? I don't even know what's going on there. He ends up running in the opposite direction from the play.

You obviously don't read this thread much because your first assertion is false.  But he's not a savior, but really no QBs are.  They're often given too much credit for winning as a team and too much blame for losing as a team.  Example is DeShaun Watson.  Is he elite?  Most folks would have agreed before this season that he was.  Texans are 0-4 and they haven't scored more than 23 points in any game.  Is he suddenly a bad QB?  Did the money change him?  Of course not, but he's saddled with a leaky OL, is without his #1 WR who was traded away and generally being undercut by a HC moonlighting as a de facto GM, who is one of the worst player pro in the league.  But their defense is still better than ours.

Correct - more I'm speaking more for myself who is far from happy with him, but also recognize in the hierarchy of problems, he is far from the top.   I also am no tin favor of the mountains of money they are trying to get him when again, there are so many other holes.  I like him as a player, loved him early, and want him to succeed, but he seems sloppy at times with the ball and throws.

To your Watson reference, I think the owners are so terrified that if they let these guys go, and away from the larger team issues, they are going to turn back into savages and set the league on fire.  Fear of loss, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars for what is easily the most difficult position to play in all of major sports.

Well, Dak's price tag can be attributed to our front office failures and somewhat Dak, who keeps betting on himself and winning, so he's not necessarily at fault.  Two offseasons ago, it was we don't want to pay him 25 million AAV on some 4-5 year deal because he's not worth it.  25m for QBs not over 40 is the Derek Carr/Alex Smith territory.  But we waited because he needed to prove it.  Midway through last year, he's having a good year but team is just meh.  30m for 4/5 years good enough?  I mean we want to get this done before Wentz, Goff and far off Mahomes and Watson deals remake the market.  Nope, let's wait it out.  And so on, so on, and so on.  So, a lot of this market pain from trying to sign him to an extension is self induced from Jerrah and Stephen, who have continued to be a terrible management duo.

I guess the silver lining for folks who are hoping Dak has out priced himself for the Cowboys is if the overall team continues to play this poorly, we're going to have a top 10 pick.  If Dak goes down, we'll have a top 3-4 pick.  So, we could essentially be in the Tank for Trevor conversation (doubtful), but definitely in the Fail for Fields convo, which is more realistic.....

Literally nobody makes Dak out to be any sort of savior.  The money that he'll ultimately get is simply a function of the league today and what the position commands for pretty much any top 10 to 12 QB once he reaches the end of a contract. The fact that some people can't reconcile this fact with what they perceive to be a QBs worth doesn't matter nor does it make the above any less true.

I do think the escalating contract prices, especially in the shadow of what Mahomes signed factor in, but he's got a hell of a lot of flag bearers that suffered through the post-Aikman QB years that seem to contend he is easily one of the top QB's in the league, that I do not agree with.

Throughout his career he consistently ranks within the top 10 of most, if not all the metrics QBs are evaluated on. I don't know, maybe you're right and he's not a top 10 QB, but thankfully for him and his agents he's done a consistently good job of impersonating one.

Like I said, I loved him early and still want him as this team's leader.  I just hope he can get it done when it matters in games the most.
