Anyone been to Llano/Fredericksburg/Kingsland in the past week?  How are the wildflowers, have they started considerably dying off?  Planning on taking out of town visitors who've never been but I'm not sure if it'd be worth the trip for wildflowers.  Might just go to Fredericksberg for the day instead.

We were in Fredricksburg last weekend.  Didn't do any of the wildflower loops, but they were pretty decent on the drive out there.  Maybe drive out there, see what it looks like on the way and decide once you get to F'burg on whether you want to drive more or just hang out there.

That's what I normally do. I'll take kind of a scenic route to Fredericksburg. Go past Johnson City on 281, then go left on 1323. It'll become apparent how good the wildflowers are pretty quick, and there are some lovely twists and turns on that backroad anyway. If you're not impressed, just follow 1320 back down to 290. If it looks nice, keep on it and it'll backdoor you into the Willow City Loop.

I went to our place in Hunt,Tx for Easter.  They flowers were just coming out.  There is a place on the right between Johnson City and Fredericksbug that grow them.  Acres..

It was beautiful.  We didn't stop.  That seems like wine country now. A new winery is opening up all the time.  It seems like the peach community is dying.   (My grandmother bought the place by Mo Ranch in the 40's and I have been going since I was a kid.)

We take the boys to the Oldest Rodeo is Texas every year.

My nephews have had great times riding the Muttons.

I went to Camp Stewart for years and was a Counselor.  Great times out there.

My hunting partners were filling feeders and turkey hunting at our place north of Fredericksburg last weekend.  Said the flowers very decent to very good in most spots.

Traffic was pretty heavy all around so be prepared for that....may have died down some by this weekend but maybe not.  Said the line at Coopers was as long as they've seen it...multiple snakes back and forth outside the bollards along the building at that was after 1pm.    They went to Laird's instead.

Even if the flowers are past peak, a bad day out there is better than a good day most places...especially if your friends have never been.

I guess SA maybe isn’t considered hill country, but I’m looking for some input comparing SA to, say, Fredericksburg (I could be sold on other towns in hill country as well).

The 10 year anniversary is coming up this summer, and we have two young kids so a big trip is out of the question but we’ll have grandparents babysitting for a few days and we want to GTFO Houston and do something fun on our own.

we’ve gone to SA once and we had a blast. I was thinking about doing a few days at the hill country resort, one day staying there mostly and the rest exploring SA.

I’ve not been to FBG since high school but thought it was cool, but I’m worried all there will be to do will be going to wineries (as I said earlier, also open to other hill country places if there’s anything fun to do).

Thoughts on if the SA resort spot is worth it? I think @NoName will probably cover all the FBG bases  so I’m mostly curious if that resort is as cool as it looks.

Lots of kids there, from what I understand.  Lazy river, etc.

If you're looking to get away from that, I'd suggest the Fredricksburg thread.  Lots of excellent recommendations on romantic cabins with hot tubs.  Might be more what you're after for an anniversary trip unless golf is on your list.  Even so, the Lady Bird course is nearby and public.  We had a great anniversary dinner at Bryan's on 290 in Johnson City.  Something to consider....

I think the JW Marriott is much better than Hill Country Hyatt. Better restaurants, better spa, better across the board in my opinion. Adults only pool has an incredible view at sunset also over the golf course. Can't recommend it enough, it's a really nice experience.

Also more expensive than Hyatt haha

As you are looking at resorts in SA there is Also La Cantera, which is stupid expensive, but mte centrally located than Hyatt or JW if you are going off into the hill country.

I can help you out with FBG for sure!

There are 4 legit resorts in/around SA

JW, Hyatt Hill Country, Hyatt Wild Oak, La Cantera

JW is the nicest but its also the most expensive. Its also farther from downtown than Hill Country and Wild Oak Ranch.

Imo, JW is prolly what u want

Hotel Emma in the Pearl is great and would be a good time with no kids.

Given it is a big anniversary.. I'd do one night here. Hotel Emma is unique, adult friendly, and top notch (see their recent Michelin rating). Its also expensive, so if you decided to do other nights elsewhere, La Cantera is probably best (without kids).

Otherwise, there are lots of other unique places that would serve their purpose for anniversary trip:
