Burke coming back healthy so quick is huge for us.

Healthy isn't the word I would use, but he's finally good enough to be able to play his style of ball and we're about to face a bunch of less than stellar tackles for him to feast upon.

I keep telling myself that Burke is going to end up like one of those Iowa, Wisky defensive lineman that ends up a top 40 pick on draft night.

Maybe right now as a flabby 260 lb sophomore. Probably top 10 when he fills out his frame.

You know that Murphy and Sweat have been amazing, when there is a whole thread on Surly and not a single person bitched about their play. That is more impressive than winning  the Outland Trophy

I’d be down for some Surly Awards with NIL tie-in, maybe cross promotion w Surly Corporate Sponsor

Alfred Collins, DL

Another Texas defender hampered due to an injury in recent weeks is senior defensive lineman Alfred Collins. The likely 2024 NFL Draft pick originally suffered an injury on the road in Texas’ Week 8 win over Houston.

But that injury in the Houston game didn’t cause Collins to be completely held out of any of the last three games. However, he was still limited due to an injury while taking a season-low 16 defensive snaps in the win over TCU on Nov. 11.

Despite the injury, Collins has been a big part of the success of the Texas defensive line in the last few weeks in Big 12 play. Collins has registered at least one quarterback pressure, one tackle, and no missed tackles in each of the last three games. In fact, he’s the only Texas interior defensive lineman who has registered at least one quarterback pressure in every game this season.

Texas’ defensive line has dominated the line of scrimmage against everyone they’ve played this season. And that couldn’t be truer given the level they’ve played at in the last few weeks. Texas has the three highest-graded interior defensive linemen in the Big 12 since Week 9, with Collins ranking second in between junior Byron Murphy II at No. 1 and redshirt senior T’Vondre Sweat at No. 3.

Collins is a major reason Texas has the most dominant interior defensive line play in the Big 12 this season and possibly in the entire Power Five. He’s an incredibly important part of the interior defensive line rotation. He has started to live up to the immense talent level he showed when he first arrived on campus four years ago as a former five-star recruit out of high school.

I want Murph back but that doesn’t seem likely. Could see Collins coming back and being the man at DT next year. He has a draft able grade but Bo can show the year Sweat is having and sell Collins on making that jump next year. If we get Collins back I’m feeling good with Burke and the rest of the edges returning that we have a good DLine. The coaches are high on Vasak if he can stay healthy, Simmons can be a third down specialist and I think with another off season Burke is going to be a monster. If the light comes on for Tapp we start to look scary at edge.

Edge should be one of the biggest strengths on the team next year. Lord knows how long it’s been since that was the case.

How do they think the depth in the interior is coming along?

Bo Davis and Choice on the offensive side are killing it.
Stellar season from the DL.  It wasn’t too long ago that Charlie’s boys and Herman’s defense you could gouge them for 7 yards a pop at will, straight up the middle.  You can’t run again this defense, the way God intended it.

From a Texassport.com article:

“With Sweat providing pressure in the middle, Texas held five consecutive opponents – Houston, BYU, Kansas State, TCU and Iowa State – to under 100 rushing yards, the Horns' longest such streak since 2009. All totaled in those five games, opponents have rushed for 241 yards (48 ypg) on 118 carries (2 ypc).”
