Deion Sanders "Coach Prime" Now At Colorado

Don Johnson

Recommended Posts

TX State will see if they are “real” next Saturday, as they play UTSA on the road (Alamo Dome).

Those who are in the know, know that TXSU’s New HC played for Coach Traylor his Senior year in HS! Just saying that there’s an additional twist to this game next Saturday.

Hook’em!!!

After watching the game on Saturday, I had a few takeaways.

1) I'm going to have to fucking pay closetohumping $1000.

2) Sonny Dykes is, in fact, who I thought he was.

3) Kendal Briles is still a rape-enabling dipshit living off of his father's reputation. That play at the goal line by Hunter, a truly terrific play, should have never happened. Run the fucking ball, dummy. They should have been running the ball all day long.

4) TCU's defense is pure asshole. That was a pathetic showing.

Nebraska is a lot tougher than TCU and they'll play okay defense. I think it will be a good game. Nebraska seems like they have had a curse put on them by somebody that paid a witch in Alquippa, so I'm guessing CU wins in a way that will cause more heartbreak to Husker Nation. I'm fine with the heart ache for the huskers part, but I do not look forward to another victory.

Nebraska opened as a 7.5 favorite.  They are now a 3.5 point underdog.  I think Nebraska can absolutely win.  Ruhle ain't a dumbass and they won't underestimate CU.

kendall briles should be banned from college football coaching, he’s damn lucky to have that job. A job he’s not qualified for

lol he was upset because an OC at a school he never was going to go to gave him the cold shoulder? lol

Quote

“The reason he was so intense and so relaxed and ready, not only did he study, when we went to the camp of a certain school, a certain coordinator we just played against, offensive coordinator, he was at that school,” Deion Sanders said on Pat McAfee’s show, referring to Kendal Briles. “And we went to this school at camp, he didn’t pay (Shedeur) no attention. I don’t even think he barely spoke to him, just pushed him off to the side. And I went and told somebody, I was like ‘that ain’t no way to treat him now, that’s not right.'”

“And (Shedeur) remembered that. And he told me probably 20 minutes after the little situation happened, ‘Dad, we’ll never come back here again. We’ll never come back here again’, because the way that coach treated him. That’s why I tell my guys, you be careful on these visits, because these kids watch everything and remember how you treat them because you’ll never know when they’ll come … and he dissected and he wanted to beat that guy so bad, that he just went to work.”

Sanders was the lowest rated QB in the class that had an offer from FSU. His offer came from a prior coaching staff and it was pretty clear Briles wasn't going after him, in fact if his name was Smith he wouldn't have held an offer at all. FSU didn't take a QB in the 2022 class and only offered like 15 total dudes at the position.

Sanders was offered in December 2017. Briles was hired in December 2018. Sanders attended junior day in April 2019 a camp in July 2019.

his next few reported offers following that FSU camp:

  • Memphis
  • UCF
  • FAU
  • Marshall
  • ULaLa
  • Cornell
  • Utah State

...if you need that, from literally FOUR years ago, to motivate you then good luck.

this is like UGA saying that nobody believed in them last year.

I thought Nebby looked good outside of their QB against Minny. They look like they're well coached and give a shit.

Granted, that doesn't always matter when you have a guy under center looking to give the ball away 4 times a game.

Right. Neb QB throws 3 INTs against Prime&Sons, CU be 2-0.

If the Neb/CU "opened at + 7.5" my guess is that's the line from the early odds before last weeks games. I didn't watch all of the corn's game, but what I did see makes me question whether they have the offense to score with CU. Throw in the altitude which the CU guys are accustomed to, and I'm locked in on CU-2.5 which was too good to pass up. I imagine they will try to run those Nebraska DBs to death and see if they can keep their breath.

You can probably convince me that the husker D is superior to TCU's D, but if CU scores 30, can Rhule squeeze that many out of his side? Who knows maybe all those turnovers were just game 1 jitters. But Boulder will be fucking jacked for this game (at least as jacked as Boulder can get). Rhule gets his first shot at a top 25 team while coaching Nebraska....my guess is his record vs ranked teams falls to 2-17.

Colorado has a Texas Tech level DLine. The formula to beat them is the same as it is to beat Tech every year. Just run it right down their throats and keep their offense on ice all game. Rhule should be able to figure that out pretty easily. My main question with Rhule is if Nebraska has one of those Baylor 2 win stinkers of a year 1. I would think they will have a better showing than that, but not much better.

Nebraska has some talent. Frost did okay on the recruiting front and you can see decent players out there for them.

The biggest issue with Nebraska is the QB. He was bad at GTech and he was awful last Thursday. Just awful.

Nebraska plays tough and their defense looks okay. That's not to say that CU isn't tough, because they looked plenty tough on Saturday.

I don't think we understand how bad TCU may be. I didn't expect much from them this year, but I was pretty surprised by how mediocre they looked at numerous spots on offense. Morris is a shit QB and he's small. The WRs outside of Williams are middling or worse. Trey Sanders left Bama because he couldn't stay healthy and had lost any dynamic running ability he possessed when he got there. If you're playing that dude, you've got problems in the backfield. Then, the interior OL for TCU, which we knew was going to be a problem, looked particularly poor. That's a bad offense, and they put up a bunch of points on CU.

CU is weak in the trenches. They don't have much size and they don't have any depth. TCU let Kendal Briles fuck up a soup sandwich by not going straight at them all day, even with that weak IOL. Nebraska looks okay on both the defensive and offensive fronts, relatively speaking. You have to assume they're going to try to shorten the ball game and run the ball. That said, the OC on Thursday also went out of his way to fuck up the finish versus Minnesota. Late in the game, the idiot had a lead and threw on 3 consecutive down, burning off roughly 20 seconds on the clock and giving Minnesota one of the breaks they needed.

I expect CU to beat Nebraska simply because Shadeur Sanders is damned good, Hunter is special, and the freshman TB can ball. They will get into the end zone and I don't think Nebraska will be able to keep up. If Nebraska does pull out the win, it's going to be because they just straight up whipped smaller guys at the LOS and kept Sims from doing enough to lose the game.

I bookmarked this article talking about the shift in the line shortly after the game on Saturday:

Covers.com tracks the line movement on several online sportsbooks:

Colorado entering the AP poll at #22, ESPN already planning to be in town, coming off a huge road win....

Nebraska wins by double digits. Rhule can coach and CU is now on film. They have great talent but only at a few positions. I'm a believer than Rhule will be able to limit those guys. Hunter will get some, but I don't see him being able to play that many plays in back to back weeks.  He could easily prove me wrong but I just don't see it.

I assume you mean Fox, because I'm pretty sure ESPN is not broadcasting the game and Gameday is going to Tuscaloosa.

depth for them is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE issue.

as in they have basically none of it.

if the QB misses any time, they are playing either a true freshman or a guy who played last year at Northeast Oklahoma A&M and looks like this:

image.png.2526dba172489eed96cf86b5f6d3ddeb.png

if Hunter gets hurt, it kills them on both ends.

their front 7 has 1 guy <~250 lbs and multiple guys at 225.

i wish them the best of luck when someone actually has a halfway decent gameplan and doesn't shit the bed the way TCU did.

all that said, they are going to blow the fucking doors off of Colorado State in 2 weeks, because CSU is baaaaaaaaaad

we will see how good their defense is when they play Oregon (#10 OFEI), USC (#1 OFEI), UCLA (#19 OFEI), Oregon State (#24 OFEI)

still shocked they won vs TCU but exactly zero of that is sustainable moving forward, especially on defense.

their 3rd down and RZ success rate? not sustainable.

explosive play rate? not sustainable.

yard/drop back rate? not sustainable.

0 busted drives for the game? minimal turnovers?

not being able to run for shit

image.png.e829c785184ba1930e90bf63b4c3bb16.png

but sure - lets rank them at #22!

Ruhle is going to make them win by running the ball, and they were legit fucking terrible at running the ball vs TCU. highlight yards (which was the RB) was <1 YPC. 12th percentile in EPA/Rush. 1 explosive rushing play. a stopped run rate (<=2 yards gained) of 50% (!!!!!!!!!.)

i have no clue how they will end up looking but when you consider they had just about as good of a passing game as they possibly could have had, were incredibly bad on defense, and still only won by 2 points...that kind of says it all.

Spoiler

now watch Deion's magic make them run for 500 yards vs Nebraska on Saturday and pass for like 25...then win 56-3 or something equally as dumb

This is where I am. I really, really hope that Colorado is still ass and that TCU is just that terrible.

Let's face it, TCU played all of last season with a giant horseshoe up their ass while sporting eight NFL drafted players including a QB who constantly made chicken salad out of chicken shit with his legs. Even blue blood programs have difficulty replacing that kind of talent, much less TC fucking U led by scrub ass Sonny Dykes. Everything broke perfectly for them until Georgia and they probably spent all last season patting themselves on the back and reliving the day Michigan turned it over 63 times against them. I also suspect that whatever vestiges of Sweaty Gare's defensive fingerprints that were all over that program for 20 years have left the building. It sure as shit looked like it on Saturday.

I have to give Deion and Colorado their due, but I don't think we are going to know any more about them after this weekend against Nebraska. Both these teams still seem like giant unknowns to me. I like Rhule and all, but the bugeaters can't get the stench of losing off of them. This would seem like a classic letdown spot for Colorado if not for the history between the two teams. It's going to be interesting to see if Colorado comes out with the same focus and intensity against a team that should try to manhandle them up front after a week of everybody telling them how great they are.

Your point about parity is well stated.  I didn't realize until I went back and checked: Ten different schools won a MNC in the 12 years period before that (1999-2010):

FSU (1999), ousux (2000), Miami (2001), Ohio St (2002), USC (2003*, 2004), LSU, (2003*, 2007), Texas (2005), Florida (2006, 2008), Alabama (2009), Auburn (2010).

*USC won the AP MNC, LSU the BCS/Coaches Poll MNC.

Geezus!! You guys are acting like someone is saying CU is going to be in the running for a playoff berth. These guys won one game last year. One. They came out after replacing damn near the entire roster and looked competent vs a p5 opponent. That alone is hard to do. That many guys who have never played together and they played a pretty clean game. Could they come back down to earth? Hell yes they can, but they are just as likely to get better since they too "replaced a ton of people on their roster". People here are so hateful they just cannot tip the cap and give credit where credit is due.

The rosiest, sunshiniest predictions for this year that I have seen are along the lines of getting bowl eligible. It's not ridiculous at all to think that a team that completely revamped its roster and won on the road against TCU might be able to easily beat Nebraska at home. Nebraska has not had a winning season in the past 7 years, and they have had to regularly lose games to programs like Northwestern to accomplish that. TCU might be down, but I think they probably make a bowl game.

I'm as impressed as anybody but let's just see where it goes. Everyone wants to make declarative statements and try to be "first" on something. Everyone wants their hot take to come true. They were awesome in week 1. Deion has earned the right to peacock a bit. Take the victory lap. But if it goes sideways i don't wanna hear excuses either.

Just let it play out. Enjoy it. This is good entertainment.
