Teams that don't have the deep pockets that UT does can't afford to build depth the traditional way anymore because of the portal and NIL. Where else is Arch Manning sitting on the bench making millions a year for 2 years? Nowhere outside of very few programs.

Then why isn't anyone else in the p4 following this example?

Hell, find me another FBS team doing it or even halfway doing it.

Stars and scrubs is dangerous to success when building a football team.

Just to be clear, he absolutely could not have a top 10 high school class as it stands at CU.

Top 10 classes for 2025 have both way more recruits than CU and have higher averages across the board.

IMG_9072.thumb.jpeg.560b3e24eaec32d9e5d1ea022e4e012b.jpeg

He's recruited a class that's 0.42 better on average than TTU who has 9 more commits and includes 3 dudes ranked outside the top 200 in Texas.

IMG_9071.thumb.jpeg.71caa2f9fcefa6a5877b821a6af0f350.jpeg

you are acting like this is Clemson's class, when it isn't. Clemson has 5 fewer points with 9 fewer commits than CU and 18! Fewer than TTU

IMG_9073.thumb.jpeg.0f9d80c962440edc7341cb6c867073c7.jpeg

He's a legit good recruiter, or even better than that, but he's not "recruit a top 10 class at CU" without spending 2022 Texas A&M level money.

Okay, Mr. Pedantic. Maybe i should've said I think he's got the background and clout to be an elite recruiter. Or if 3 of Texas's top 5 targets had visits scheduled to Boulder I'd be a tad antsy.

My point was that they were paper thin at some positions this year and were otherwise more talented than their mostly favorable schedule. At linebacker they could have just used bodies. Not a former Alabama prospect, just humans shaped like linebackers and he isn't optimizing his roster with high school numbers. He could have had more depth and developmental prospects and he chose not to do that. My opinion is that he should probably do that.

Everyone is trying to figure out what works right now. It's the wild west out there. He's going a different direction than what has traditionally been done and the early results are very good.

It's almost like the team was the worst in college football 2 years ago. To go from that to 9 wins is damn impressive. Depth was much better this year than last and I expect next year's team to be deeper still, but losing Trav and Shedeur is gonna hurt.

His first portal class was pretty meh and his second portal class was much better. He also took more HS recruits this past cycle than the first. And (gasp!) a lot of the dudes that stuck around for year 2 got noticeably better.

Not sure how anybody can really critique the direction of CU’s program right now.

Maybe deeper but absolutely unlikely to be better. Sked includes BYU, AZ State, at KSU, at TCU, at Utah.

Lose the two best players by a gigantic margin.

Let's see how it happens this year without his son and Travis Hunter. Going to surely be interesting.

This shit is absurd.  Travis is the model for all college athletes.  He works hard, he's a good person, he doesn't get in trouble and he has good grades.  But shitheads like you gotta take shots at him because you don't like Deion.  It's ridiculous.

Apparently this young dude's personal relationships are very important to you. This is the second time you've squawked dumb, Fox News, Bro style podcast language about this issue. Do you have any original thoughts about it that you concocted on your own or are you baiting everyone into a query so you can spew out what you heard someone else say about it?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but you've mentioned it t twice now and I have no idea what you're talking about -- or why it would be relevant.

It’s all over TikTok Twitter instagram etc. is what it is but his girl is the one cooking for other men so that’s on him for being a dumbass. You don’t have to dig into anything to see this shit blasted everywhere. Also on big time podcast like the pivot, Shannon sharpes, Pat mcafeee. To act like I’m going out out my way is hilarious.

I gotta say it would have been great to see Travis Hunter on a legit contender.  It would also have been interesting to see Sanders without Hunter.   Hunter is legit.  Seems like Sanders is a fraud.  Drafting that dude in the first round would be a total Jerry Jones move.

Sanders has some amazing physical skills. There is absolutely no doubt about that reality.

Problem is, he lacks any discipline at all. He constantly improvises. Pretty much polar opposite the conversation some were having regarding Ewers on that abomination of a thread. (An  abomination which I admittedly contribute way to much too)

I think, under the right coaching staff and a willingness to ride pine for a moment, and take somr coaching input Sanders could legitimately turn into a Farve or Mahomes player. He's got the foundational abilities to do it. However, all of his coaching to this point has been under the thumb of his father. I don't see that changing and I don't think a wise GM will either. Hence, it will be a clown show environment where he most likely goes. Lots of conflict to follow, likely ending up with a HC/OC that doesn't want the noise but is forced to swallow it and acts accordingly. Sound familiar?

Yep, this screams Jerry, Mara, Davis, Ford etc. Thankfully for Cleveland fans Watson likely keeps them from getting in the mix, cause that would be too good of a fit.

If it also has a bit of a Fisher/VY feel, yep.. I think that's likely too. Just a LOT more parental meddling and way more media coverage with a far less capable player.

For the record, I don't think this is Shaduer's fault. Being groomed from childhood is well.. cult like and I don't think he'll know better until it's too late. I honestly hope I'm wrong and he gets out from under his father's thumb.

On the opposite side, Hunter seems like a legit team player and I'm confident he'll go somewhere and be wildly successful.

Anyone who watched more than a quarter of the Alamo Bowl is just a hater. If you slightly giggled a couple of times you will be taken to a reprogramming camp so someone can remind you that they were only 1 - 11 recently.

My favorite part is when Shiloh would celebrate on every play he made even when there was a penalty on him.

If Ewers played behind the CU OL he would be a medical retirement by now.

Sanders does improvise, but it's out of necessity. You can see he would clearly prefer to stand in the pocket and throw darts. Instead, his C gets smashed into the pocket regularly, and DTs or DEs get an easy upfield push and Wanders ends up dancing for his life, trying to keep his eyes down field.

Like I said 5011 pages ago... Take his name off the back of the jersey and we would take him in a heartbeat.

I don't disagree in large part but like Milroe, his first instinct if he perceives (real or imagined) the pocket collapsing is to fly by wire. He stops progressions and looks to wing it when he gets into space. He doesn't look at check downs. For a good comparison Klubnik stays in his progression as long as he can. Checks down when he has to and runs if that's all sideways. Gabriel is even better at it.

Now is that in part due to the shitty Oline. Sure.. absolutely and the head coach hasn't done a whole lot to improve that reality. However, unlike Ewers who I'm fairly confident is being forced not to "wing it" by his HC, Shaduer, I'm betting, is being encouraged to do so and forced to by his HC given the OL issues. And... has been for a LONG time.

None of which changes the fact that he has some bad habits. I don't want Milroe on the Cowboys either for the record. Not because he can't move the pocket, go through progressions and make spectacular runs or tosses as needed. I THINK he likely can. Think, because I've no evidence to support that supposition. Shadeur had gone to the same bag a tricks with the same results against every disciplined, if under skilled D he's faced... all of them.

So.. because I haven't seen it and I don't know that he's been taught it, and I have serious concerns given his father's influence he won't alter his play.. no I don't want him on my NFL team. For the record, Gabriel is the ONLY QB this year i would. Even he is a bit of a gamble, imo, but he's the best bet this year.

Personally, I'd take a certain WR/CB at CU, a particular TE or LB from Texas or a running back from Boise waaaaay before any of the QBs in this draft. But that's just like my opinion man.

The world is not binary and neither are people, their opinions or positions.

It's not fruitful or worth discussing any topic with people who see it as such, because it's never a discussion.

Why aren't you criticizing a HC for forcing his QB to play on a team with such a horrible OL??

Take the name off his suit and you sure as shit would be. Hell, you used that very point of a shitty OL to defend Shaduer's play but clearly miss the irony 2 posts later in defending poor Shaduers shitty head coach. Oh, that's right, I mean an Icon who has won everywhere but I hate because of color, but you love due to great OL recruiting for his amazing QB.

By recruiting superior talent on his name, not by actually coaching Xs and Os.  I say that as someone who thinks recruiting is 80% of CFB coaching. Jimmies and Joes over Xs and Os will do exactly what it has done for CU - put some Ws on the board and butts in the seats.  What it won't do is win games that matter.

BYU kicking the onside early was some disrespectful shit.

I thought it was strange that they went back to using 10 personnel for the majority of the game. I thought they stopped doing that after Nebraska spent an entire game taking free sprints into their backfield. And then their game last night looked very similar to the NU game. Probably just a coincidence.

Their last chance to put up stats before the draft. Hunter got popped in the first qtr on the sideline on a late check down. He appeared to get up mouthing at Sanders.

The OL was terrible before he got there.

The OL was bad last year.

The OL has improved, but is still bad.

It takes years to get good OL play.

If you have to start from zero, you can expect, at least, three years of bad OL play - maybe more.

He could have recruited the #1 OL at every position and gone to the portal to get the best OL available, and they would still be average at best, due to not playing together and needing to train as a unit.

I think Shadeur is better in the pocket than Milroe. Has to be proven of course.

And I agree, there are plenty of players I would take before Sanders, depending on team needs. I think Ward is better at QB. He's going to be the 1st QB. I wouldn't take a TE before Sanders, but I understand.

Hmm.. here's my view on Cam vs Gabriel.

Gabriel played in the B1G. I'm not gonna go all in on saying the B1G is great but, broadly speaking, they play way better D than the ACC. Bowl results and what I saw all season strongly indicate ACC has near zero defense quality, anywhere with any team. Hell, ISU worked that Miami team and slowed Cam some and they're D is just.. well Big XII quality.

The whole point is yes, Cam has looked great and yes I'd take Cam over Milroe, Shaduer and Ewers (well playing for my NFL team) but I think Gabriel has proven more via the defenses he's faced so he'd be #1 on my board. I know the talkiny heads disagree with me... so..

Good news, I'm not a GM and my opinion is just hot air. We'll see at the next level. Qb is that position that it's hardest to predict college to NFL success. So..

I haven't seen enough of Gabriel this year.

My remembering of him is as the off schedule  guy you described earlier. I don't know his passing accuracy.

Cam is accurate and can throw down field. I'd have to go watch Gabriel this season.

Not sure why you're referencing his playing days.  Seems irrelevant to his coaching career.

I disagree w/ the notion that he's a "good coach" when all he does is trade on his NIL to get kids to play for him, while acknowledging that recruiting is the majority of coaching.  He'll never have that other piece that makes him a truly good coach - the kind that wins a conference championship, or greater.

I think you'd find yourself agreeing with me if you did. Gabriel's numbers are closer to Shaduer's without the benefit of playing ACC defenses.

I honestly think Gabriel might have the best NFL career out of the class of 2025. Similar to Nix and Penix he definitely benefitted from the additional covid season.

Do I think he has as much talent as Sanders and Ward? No not even close but he has a far better head on his shoulders than them by far...

We differ on the talent aspect. I agree that Ward and Sanders have more but disagree on the amount. Think is closer than you do.

Where we do absolutely agree is the game smarts/feel and see speed.

He's WAY, WAY ahead in that category and why I think he is the most likely to succeed in the NFL.

In fact, an even better fit for Gabriel would have been... wait for it.. Sark's offensive scheme.

Better like how?

Can Ward is really really good and will likely be the better pro.
