Being settled by criminals generally looks like a better starting point.

Gardner, McSally. Possibly Earnst.

I don't think Gardner or McSally can save their Seat no matter what they would decide to do. (probably wouldnt save Collins either, but she is on the record (kind of).

Earnst? i don't know if 'it moves the needle in Iowa.

Considering Lindsey Graham's statistical tie in South Carolina, maybe him. I hate to hope. I fear he will be a good Trump/Mitch foot soldier and go down with the ship.

Lady G is in a bit of a pickle.

Does he go forward with hearings, meaning he will not  be campaigning in a race where he is tied?

Does he go forward, with full knowledge this may cost him his seat in November?

Holy shit, I thought you were joking.

How the fuck did Linda go from 16 up in 2014 to tied in 2020?

That is fucking hilarious.  Must be that Trump magic.

In all seriousness:

25% of women in the US are expected to undergo an abortion prior to age 45.   (This would seemingly cover almost all abortions.)

39% of abortion patients are white, 28% are black, and 25% are Latinx.

Based on my completely unscientific observations, white conservative women like to fuck roughly as much as white liberal women . . . as in, I seriously doubt the abortion rates are much different between Republicans and Democrats.  Maybe a bit.

Let's assume that all black and Latinx abortion patients were going to vote Biden.  Let's assume that half of white abortion patients were going to vote Trump, and half were going to vote Biden.  This is probably overcounting Trump voters, but what the hell.

Based on 2016 numbers, roughly 63M voters would otherwise vote Trump, and half of them  (31.5M) should be women.  (I need to verify this, I'm probably off.  However, turnout should be higher in 2020, offsetting that to some degree.)  25% of that demographic is 8M voters, presumably all of which have had or will have abortions.

I don't know about y'all, but 8M votes sounds like a lot.  Sure, tons of them are in NY, CA, IL, etc.  It still might matter.

Everything, dude.  Everything will be crushed.  Maybe Gorsuch requires them to properly file briefs and actually sign their docs, but that’s about as much review as your gonna get.  This court is gonna make Taney look like child’s play.

starting with us not having a free election in 50 days.

This.  The easiest way a Republican guarantees losing an election is by blocking a conservative replacement for RBG.   That not only would be a terrible career move (a career killer, in fact), but they also really would be in personal danger after that.  Not everyone is fraudulent Jerry Falwell, Jr. grifter who doesn’t really care.   There would be plenty of crazies itching to do something to the guy who they think could have stopped the abortionists but chose not to do so.

Romney is the only one I could see doing it since he’s not up for reelection for a while and doesn’t need this like most of them.  I don’t think he will, either, though.   Voting to remove Trump (especially when you know he won’t be removed) is actually a way, way less difficult stand to make.

That’s just simply not true in many purple states. Trump isn’t popular in places like Colorado, Maine, etc.

I don't even know what this means. And really don't want an explanation.  It's not that "abortion patients" are of any sort of political party.  It's that the government should stay the fuck out of our bodies, regardless of whether I have personally had an abortion.  And if I, or my nieces, or my sisters, get raped or have a problem pregnancy or get pregnant by someone abusive, we have options.

Fucking McConnell is going to say he was wrong in 2016 and the error should not be repeated.

No here will be no admitting of wrong. He and they will say this is different because Trump is a first term president on the ballot  and may not be a lame duck, unlike 2016.  It will be the bullest of shit and a distinction without a difference to anyone with a moderate intellect, but it will be enough for them to justify themselves.

You underestimate the "these (abortions, tort suits, prior immigrant status) things are for me and not for thee" aspects of GOP thinking.

You may not want an explanation, but I'm going to give it to you:  I'm trying to put a number on Trump voters who might flip because of RBG's death and the political consequences on SCOTUS, etc.

Let's stop with the conservative stuff, it's an insult to those of us who were actually conservatives - this is pure 100% Republican, and not all Republicans are conservatives.

What you are talking about is also the easiest way to motivate a lot of people to vote against a Republican.  There's a fuck-ton of people in this country, who do not vote for one reason or another.  Pushing a Ted Cruz or whoever is not going to get them out to vote for the Rs.  But it will provide fodder for the Ds, the moderates, the independents.

Prior to Trump, for 8 years, our President was a Half-Black, Muslim, Atheist, Socialist, Marxist, Communist homosexual who was born in Kenya and raised exclusively in Indonesia until he lived in Hawaii, which, we all know why it wasn't a state until 1959, nudge nudge, wink wink, and he then he was a "community organizer" from that sleazy little town known as Chicago.

He had no problems beating a war hero in 2008 (albeit with the help of W and Sexy Librarian running mate), and he had no problem beating the Mormon with the bland running mate in 2012.

And keep in mind, Trump needed Hillary Clinton at the top of the (D) ticket, and he still fucking lost the popular vote.

RBG is the kind of thing to get a whole shitload of those people that had no problem electing a Half-Black, Muslim...etc....etc...etc. (insert everything I mentioned above), out to vote.  Hillary ain't on the ticket anymore.

Dude.  You guys are not getting it.

Chevron is Definitely gone, that’s the ability of agencies to interpret laws (I.e “the secretary shall”).

But more broadly, you could be looking at repeals if the rulings that allowed the New Deal and Great Society agencies to even exist.  We could be looking at a return to a pre 1920s government that could only act on direct legislation by Congress.  I’m talking the end of the modern administrative state that makes us functional government in a modern world economy.

And that’s just my lobbyist ass talking.  If I were not a privileged white guy I would legitimately be fucking terrified.

Live look from 2022

Highway GIF

I asked a relative who is a firefighter about a video like this a while back - he said it's actually not as bad as it looks, as long as you don't have to stop for fallen trees or anything, because everything that could burn on both sides of the road was already burned and/or burning.  That's why there's a bunch of people with these kinds of videos.

He said if you were driving through that just as the fire came through the trees and across that road though, you would have been absolutely fucked.
