That’s just simply not true in many purple states. Trump isn’t popular in places like Colorado, Maine, etc.

Shit, apparently he's not that popular in South Carolina, else Linda wouldn't be tied, he'd be up by the same 16% he was in 2014.  Yeah, sure there are demographic changes, but 16 whole fucking points in 6 years?

I don't even know what this means. And really don't want an explanation.

What @jimmyjazz is trying to tell you, is that if you are in a subdivision with a lot of Rs, you need to be constantly hitting on your neighbors' wives, because they like the sex.

Based on my personal experience, I believe this to be true.   I would even go farther than JJ and say they like it a lot and aren't getting what they want.  If they are living in some bland subdivision, their husbands are already broken men.

One of my greatest nightmares is that one of these days, I'm going to login to Ancestry.com, and I'm going to have somebody contact me, who is from one of the First Colony subdivisions, and born sometime between 1989 - 1995, and who wants to call me "dad".

They can’t win without near max Republican turnout anywhere.   Their strategy everywhere is turn out the base.   If the choice is between pissing off the independents who might make up the extra votes they need on the margin, or pissing off the Republicans who make up nearly all of their votes, and control their futures as businessmen/lobbyists after politics, and have all the dirt of them, etc., they ain’t choosing to make the independents happy.

Again that’s simply not true especially in states with independent majorities

Let them have it, let them force Americans to take it, tied down, kicking and screaming. Then vote the hat trick and burn it to the ground with an amendment to the Judiciary Act. Pack the court with the landslide mandate of the election.

He’s not popular in most places compared to prior Presidents, but he also has his party bent over the barrel way worse than most prior Presidents.   All of the GOP politicians and peripheral figures know exactly what he is, and exactly how unpopular he is.   And out of all of them, Romney, Flake, Kasich, Sanford and Amash were the only ones who won’t gladly eat his shit.

They would have already been leaving him if they thought that was the better play.  They’re fucking stuck, and they know it.   Many of them absolutely hate it and resent Trump, but they’re cowards and they’re not going to take a stand now if they wouldn’t do it before when it was much easier.   No independent voter surge is going to carry any Republican who the GOP base feels has “betrayed” them on this.   The GOP voters would actively work to make him lose, if anything.  It would be the Tea Party times a billion.

And who would these Republicans vote for instead? And what would happen to the senate in that case?

If the nominee is Cruz, does that reduce the Republican majority vote? He would have to recuse himself from the vote right?

Look, there’s gonna be a lot of theories over the next 24-48 hours. As somebody who has worked for 2 Senators:

If McConnell has the votes and wants to make this happen before the election, he can.  Ultimately the Senate is a majority rules institution.  It doesn’t act that way, due to custom and tradition, but in the end, if he wanted to confirm a Supreme Court justice by midweek, and he has 50 votes, he can do it.

Most of you do not understand how fragile our democracy is and it being based on people behaving according to societal norms unbound by actual rules.

I used to think, maybe naively, I was independent.  At this point I can dispense of that thought/illunsion as I am certainly not independent any longer.  The republican party is without ethics or principles and will stoop to any level to ensure they stay in power and force their agenda on this country.  I really hope Texas turns blue somehow in my lifetime rendering Republican presidential nominees completely fucked.

They would have already been leaving him if they thought that was the better play.  They’re fucking stuck, and they know it.  Even the ones like Collins and Gardner.  Many of them absolutely hate it and resent Trump, but they’re cowards and they’re not going to take a stand now if they wouldn’t do it before when it was much easier.   No independent voter surge is going to carry any Republican who the GOP base feels has “betrayed” them on this.   A not insignificant segment of the GOP voters would actively work to make him/her lose, if anything.  It would be the Tea Party times a billion.

No, they were running the clock out on Trump.   He was aggravating, but he was useful, because he got a small group of people to turn out in high numbers.  Trump loses in November, he goes on his merry way in January.  Maybe they have their majority, maybe they don't, but they still have their seats.

This is why so many Republican politicians, when cornered by reporters over something Trump said,  play the game of "I don't know what the President said and haven't had time to study his comments so I'm not going to say anything about it."  Trump could have said "hey, we should start executing Americans who don't like me in the streets" and they'd be like "I'm sorry, I didn't hear what he said, I'll have to go back to my office, see what he said, and figure out how I feel about it, if you'll excuse me, I'm in a hurry."

Like Mack Brown, they all counted on the clock to run out, but now they are in a bind where they may have to publicly back Trump by way of a very black and white vote that cannot be interpreted in any other way, and that could cost them their seat, and so some are going to be thinking "fuck you Donnie".

Trump is an interloper who managed to capitalize on the fear of a bunch of old people.  For fuck's sake, Trump palled around with the Clintons, with Jeffrey Epstein, he was a New Yorker who supported Democrats and Republicans alike, who laughs at the thought of Christian ideals.

Meanwhile, these are career Republicans we are talking about, or Republicans that want to make it a career.

Gardner is in his 40s and is still in his first term.  You think he wants to eat Trump's shit and lose his seat so that Trump gets his way?  So he can spend the next 40 years thinking about the days when he was a Senator for 6 years?

Do you think Collins, who got started in politics and the government back in 1975, a year after Gardner was born, who's won 4 terms in the Senate, wants to end her career by losing her election so that she could satisfy a fucking New York political interloper like Trump?

Romney would love nothing more than to stick it to Trump.

Hell, Linda Graham could easily lose this election if he spends his time working on Trump's nominee instead of campaigning - A) he's not out shaking hands and raising money for ads and B) he's motivating people to turn out against him.

They were running the clock out on Trump - he loses in November, they go back to the way things were 6 years ago when Obama was in the White House - even if they don't have power, they still have their seats in Congress, still have their whims catered to by K Street.

They won’t care and will say burn it down, because if Senator X didn’t support the GOP replacement Justice, that means he was just a worthless RINO who can’t be counted on anyway.

What Tea Party initiative actually worked to help them achieve a realistic and tangible goal?  It was just lashing out at people who made them mad, and half the time it was people in their own party.  Just like with Trump.  They’ll get mad.  They’ll punish the person that made them mad.  The end.

I would argue RINOs and conservative moderates outnumber Trumpers by a pretty good margin in places like Colorado.

Y’all act like we can just vote our way out of this. You think this is going to be fair election? That’s not how fascism works.

The GOP couldn't stop a Half-Black Communist, Marxist, Socialist, Atheist, homosexual Muslim born in Kenya, raised in Indonesia, pretends to be from Hawaii, who organizes Black communities in Chicago, from winning twice.

The GOP couldn't get Trump the popular vote over Hillary, a woman who helped drive Republicans to the polls just as much as Trump's dog whistles.

For fuck's sake, John McCain was a war hero running at a time when Baby Boomers hadn't started dying off in large numbers. Yeah, George W really fucked the country and the GOP prior to 2008, but McCain should have had an easier go than losing by almost 200 electoral votes.

Yeah I’ve been around here about a decade now and ‘know’ most of the regulars shtick.  It’s insane the amount of vernacular that’s applicable only here that I can’t explain to my wife without a long backstory on lumps, ‘that record was expunged!’, Roman, regraded ragrets, pedo bears should starts, but was recently NowThis’d.

Lots of people whose opinions I don’t agree with, but no one comes across more consistently dumb as Fozz...I again go back to his like 1/7 rep to post ratio as evidence I’m not wrong there...his drive by’s are wastes of precious internets that we manufacture and sell here.  I’ll join you in laughing if his demise is met soon.

The GOP is not even in the same stratosphere now as it was then. We have fucking QAnoners that are going to be elected to Congress.

The popular vote? Who gives a flying fuck? What do you think this is? A democracy?

I think it's a bit group-thinky to negbomb Fozz. You may think his takes are stupid and they often are, but he's genuine and he's intellectually consistent (which a lot on this board are not). It's nice to see someone defending their opinions without using stupid memes or disingenuity like many, even if end of day I think a lot of his beliefs are wackadoo. It's weak sauce to try to fatwa him, don't do it.

This hillbilly moron travelingtexan who is almost assuredly a sock, probably stone oak, on the other hand...
