I want to mention Terrance Brooks has started playing well lately. Appeared to be the next CB up after Jamison/Watts.

Yeah Bobby Burton recently stated that coaches are wanting to give Brooks more playing time -- he's really coming on.  🤘

One of the Texag mouth breathers bitching about Ant Hill said the rumor was Texas was NIL whipping Ford into returning next year.  Is that the current rumor?

Well, you just typed it on a forum so yes

Damn, Bobby Burton just said on today's Livestream that BJ Allen is up to 210lbs right now.  Any news on a possible position change for him to LB??

If so, Horns probably need two DBs out of the portal... a safety and another CB.

210 at safety seems pretty ideal? He was listed at 205 coming out of HS so it’s not like he blew up

Texas LB Jaylan Ford Discusses Longhorns Future After Alamo Bowl Loss https://www.si.com/college/texas/football/texas-longhorns-jaylan-ford-alamo-bowl-nfl-draft-demarvion-overshown

Don’t listen to that nonsense. Ford isn’t getting 1st-2nd round looks. If he did, I would help him pack. NFL doesn’t value MLBs that high and Ford doesn’t have athletic traits that teams would reach for. Ford is going to ask for his grade from the NFL and likely be back.

Yeah Ford probably just hoping to boost his 2023 NIL by testing NFL waters.  He didn't play like an NFL LB in the Alamo Bowl though.

Updated scouting report on Texas 4-star signee Jelani McDonald

By GABE BROOKS            19 hrs ago

Waco (Texas) Connally four-star standout Jelani McDonald's rise in the Top247 rankings reached top 100 status this past fall thanks to his excellent on-field performance and elite multi-sport athletic profile. McDonald continued his impressive senior run with an encouraging performance this past week at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, where he towered over the defensive back group and played some strong snaps as a big cornerback.

Below is 247Sports' updated scouting report on McDonald, who's approaching 6-foot-2, 200 pounds with excellent length (32 1/2-inch arm measurement at All-American Bowl check-in). McDonald, an explosive basketball standout and reigning Texas Class 4A triple jump champion, sits inside the Top247's top 100 and No. 5 nationally among senior athlete prospects. McDonald announced his signing with Texas during the fourth quarter of the All-American Bowl broadcast this past Saturday on NBC.

247SPORTS SCOUTING REPORT

Tall and long with immense frame potential relative to multiple possible position projections. Functional athleticism of a defensive back with physical tools of a modern off-ball linebacker or big wideout.

Extensive snaps at quarterback with proven big-play ability as a runner. Also has played receiver and provided ample snaps at multiple spots on defense for valuable two-way experience.

Produced encouraging corner reps vs. elite competition during 2023 All-American Bowl week. Displayed promising fluidity in short-area situations, as well as coverage instincts.

Playmaker with the ball in his hands. Flashes impressive move-stringing ability in the open field. Slippery strong and a long-striding speed builder when loose downfield. Ball skills should translate regardless of long-term role.

Owns an excellent athletic profile that includes terrific basketball context, plus Texas 4A championship-level track and field prowess. Dynamic open-floor finisher on the hardwood. State champion as a junior in the 4A triple jump (48-2) and regional qualifier in the long jump. Explosive athleticism also proven in testing environment.

Will need time to acclimate to a full-time role in the defensive back seven, whether safety, corner, nickel, or some hybrid variety. Good field speed but may need to reach an extra gear to match burners in man coverage.

Plays with above average strength relative to build but will need to hone tackling technique and provide more consistent get-to-the-ground pop. Fluidity was apparent in All-American Bowl exposure and multiple capacities on tape, but increasing redirecting suddenness will enhance reactive quickness and playmaking ability.

Could provide immediate snaps on special teams thanks to physical tools and football instincts. May require developmental patience, but possesses immense long-term potential, regardless of positional home. Projects as an eventual impact starter who could become an NFL Draft early-round candidate.

Behind Paywall  (But saw an error... they have Anthony Cook returning???)

Here’s a look at Texas’ defensive backs for the 2023 season:

Key returners: Anthony Cook (fifth-year senior, 6-1, 188), Jahdae Barron (senior, 5-11, 190), Kitan Crawford (senior, 5-11, 202), Jerrin Thompson (senior, 6-0, 187), Ryan Watts (senior, 6-3, 206)

Key losses: D’Shawn Jamison (NFL draft), Jamier Johnson (transferred to Indiana)

Newcomers: Derek Williams (Freshman, 6-2, 190), Malik Muhammad (freshman, 6-0, 175)

Biggest unanswered question: Which returner will see the biggest improvement in 2023?

I saw that as well, and it's huge if true. Ford, Sweat and Cook returning on D plus some redshirts/sophs starting to click could provide quite a bit of resistance. Show me a loss?

Really just need edges to show to be elite on defense. I wish I knew what to expect after Sorrell out of all the bodies. Justice Finkley, Ethan Burke, J'Mond Tapp, Colton Vasek, Billy Walton, Tausili Akana - will any of those guys be better than Ovie? Do Bledsoe or Swanson have the athletic ability to move outside?
