Well, can you at least beat the shit out of Georgia again in some bowl? I’d enjoy that immensely.

“Beating the shit out of Georgia”—in a NY6 game we backdoored into because OU was in the playoff, while several Georgia starters opted out due to the NFL Draft—is the exact reason why we are in the position we are today.

I can't believe he went for it on 4th down, up 4, with 3 minutes to go. What a fucking dipshit. Someone should kick Tom Herman's ass.

Not exactly chess, but Capablanca said the only reason you ever lose is because you disrespect your opponent by making  incorrect moves. Mensa is more of a checkers than chess guy, despite his trappings. Time to GTFO Tom.

As a fan I can relate and its human. Lots of fans looked like that - I think thats when West Virginia was going for 2 to win it.

I also believe body language is often misinterpreted and overrated.

But I’m at a loss to recall a successful football coach looking lost like that during a game. Basketball? Seem coaches go through a range of emotions. But football coaches have to exude confidence.

Herman’s demeanor and lack of competence and in-game development are reasons he should get fired.

Hold no ill-will towards the man. Nor do I feel sorry that he’s about to get bought out.

Good article... Sums it up on how Herman has himself to blame, along with immaturity...

Opinion: Tom Herman has only himself to blame for the situation he's in at Texas

So, possible tension between Yurchich and Tom.  Anwar pops up with this subtle hit piece:

We have spent several months discussing multiple areas of concern as relates to the Texas Longhorn football program.
Clearly, Tom Herman’s job security has been a topic for several months. There is no need to rehash the details. However, @Ketchum recently reported Texas intends to make another run at Urban Meyer, and if he declines the job again, those working behind-the-scenes will pursue other coaches on their list. Herman’s job security will remain a huge topic for an undetermined amount of time.
In addition, Longhorn observers have been very critical of offensive line coach Herb Hand’s recruiting, especially pertaining to the 2021 class. There were seven four- or five-star offensive linemen in this class, and Texas did not sign any of them. Hand convinced only two players to join this year’s class. Those recruiting misses are impossible to ignore.
However, we need to spend some time discussing the Longhorn quarterback room.
The future is definitely concerning.
I know Herman is on the hot seat, and it's easy to grill Hand’s recruiting, but there is plenty of room for Longhorn offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich in the criticism department.
Yurcich has lost three quarterbacks since he was hired nearly a year ago.
Think about that for a moment.
Jalen Milroe was committed to Texas before Yurcich’s arrival, but decommitted in August after Yurcich actively pursued pro-style quarterbacks, while failing to reassure arguably one of the best high school players in the state he was still a priority.
Yurcich was not a huge fan of Milroe, but Alabama coach Nick Saban thinks he is good enough to play quarterback for a team that competes annually for a national title. I think it is safe to trust Saban’s evaluation.
Texas fans were not worried about Milroe’s decommitment at the time because 5-star quarterback Quinn Ewers committed on August 14. It was easy to dismiss Milroe’s departure and claim he just did not want to compete against Ewers in the future. Texas simply needed to get through the 2021 season before Ewers arrived in 2022.
However, Yurcich lost Ewers in late October.
Two quarterbacks gone.
In addition, Yurcich lost freshman quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson after he entered the transfer portal this past week. According to a source close to Jackson, the quarterback did not believe he was in Yurcich’s future plans based on their interaction behind-the-scenes.
Three quarterbacks gone.
Where is Tim Beck when you need him?
Texas did sign Austin High’s Charles Wright this past week, but he is a developmental quarterback.
Overall, Yurcich is a good offensive coordinator. Outside of his maddening rotation at receiver and running back, he appears to be a good play-caller. Yurcich is an offensive coordinator Herman can rely on to handle the offense, a right-hand man he has lacked since Major Applewhite was Herman's offensive coordinator at Houston. You cannot blame Yurcich for the missed throws, dropped passes, or fumbles that contributed to losses this season.
Nevertheless, recruiting and retaining elite quarterbacks is expected at Texas, and this is clearly an area Yurcich needs to improve in the future.
Let us begin with retention.
Assuming Sam Ehlinger enters the NFL Draft, Casey Thompson and Hudson Card will compete for a starting spot next season, with Wright as the team’s third-string quarterback. Yurcich runs the risk of losing Casey Thompson if he does not manage his room properly in 2021.
According to my sources, Thompson (currently a redshirt sophomore) is slated to graduate from Texas in May with three years of college eligibility remaining. Thompson entered the transfer portal after his freshman season, but returned to play behind Sam Ehlinger after Shane Buechele and Cameron Rising transferred to SMU and Utah, respectively. Thompson clearly formulated a plan after he returned.
Basically, if Thompson believes Card has moved ahead of him on the depth chart during spring practice, he has positioned himself to enter the transfer portal.
If Thompson leaves, Texas would be all-chips-in on Hudson Card, with true freshman Charles Wright as his backup. Hudson was listed as a duel-threat quarterback at Lake Travis, but he was fourth on the team in rushing with 281 rushing yards and five touchdowns as a senior. Jackson rushed 93 times for 1,030 yards (11.1 ypc) and 16 touchdowns as a senior, and Card is more of a pro-style quarterback.
Texas is losing the quality depth Herman desperately tried to build after he was hired.
Herman inherited a room with Shane Buechele and Ehlinger as his only quarterbacks. He actively recruited former LSU grad transfer quarterback Brandon Harris and Notre Dame grad transfer quarterback Malik Zaire after he was hired, but both committed to different programs. Herman added Cameron Rising and Casey Thompson in the 2018 class, and tried to add quality quarterbacks each year.
It does not appear Texas will pursue any quarterbacks in the transfer portal this offseason. According to my sources, nobody inside the building wants to scare off Thompson or Card by adding a transfer quarterback. Unless that changes, Texas will have only two quarterbacks ready to contribute next year, and if Thompson leaves, it is Card-or-bust.
No pressure on Card, right?
Over the past 13 seasons, the average offensive ranking within the conference for Big 12 champion is second (2.3 to be exact). That number is a tad skewed because Kansas State finished tied for the title in 2012 with the seventh-ranked offense. The second lowest-ranking offense during that time period was Texas at fifth in 2009. Other than that, the Big 12 champion finished with the top-ranked offense three times, while the conference’s second-ranked offense won the title four times.
Here are the numbers:

Oh interesting, I thought they're leaving because the head coach is an asshole who sucks ass at not letting the OC do his thing.

Yeah, that article smells of a Tom Herman sponsored storyline.

Interesting that this story comes from the same person who asked Tom the obvious planted question about the Urban rumors.

By all accounts, Ewers committed to Yurcich based on the offense he sold him, and decommitted after seeing an offense that looked nothing like what he was sold. Strangely, it also looked very little like what Yurcich has put on film before, and a hell of a lot like Herman's offense. Funny how that works.

With this set of information, we're supposed to blame Yurcich for running off Ewers? Tom and Anwar need to come up with some better spin to sell.

Thanks for this @Bruh Man

FUCK YOU TOM HERMAN

Bobby

As Texas offered a scholarship to a highly talented yet under the radar high school receiver from Arizona yesterday, I was reminded of the quality job overall that the Texas personnel department has done for Tom Herman and his assistants.

Uncovering players like that is easier said than done.

Yet there has been ample dysfunction and mostly disappointing results in recruiting this year.

On the way to getting a player’s signature, the Texas assistants have too often been out-recruited or out-maneuvered for most of the state’s elite targets. Some may say it’s a lack of winning on the field, but too many of these recruiting battles were lost before the football season even began.

Frankly, some of the assistants are poor recruiters. Offensive line coach Herb Hand simply doesn’t connect with recruits well enough. In a year where OL recruits in-state were plentiful, the Horns hit below the Mendoza line.

Likewise, Jay Boulware has done very little on the recruiting trail this cycle, his first in his return to Austin. The tight end staff position is typically manned by a strong, haymaker recruiter. That’s clearly not Boulware, who also was a minus recruiter while at OU. Even receivers coach Andre Coleman seems to be a little wishy-washy with the receivers he is pursuing (see the loss of JJ Henry to Ole Miss) and that impacted his recruiting haul.

There are other macro factors to consider besides winning and individual recruiters.

Some of that has to do with the timing of scholarship offers.

Herman mandates that any in-state offer be a committable one. It’s an understandable decision from a coach not wanting to make enemies with high school coaches. However, it has caused unnecessary delay and irreparable harm in multiple recruitments.

Texas, and whoever is leading the program next, must streamline its approach to in-state offers. There needs to be greater urgency or Texas will continue to come up short.

And finally, it’s not the personnel department’s problem if they recommend and present a player to be offered to the coaching staff and an assistant coach won’t sign off on the offer or the head coach won’t overrule them.

There are a lot of problems with Texas recruiting right now. Not just a single one.

Winning would help. Better recruiters would help. A more streamlined and urgent process would help.

Every single one of the factors above are the responsibility of the head coach to address and overcome.

Love that Alabama can coat the country in non-commitable offers and no one minds but if Texas does it, it's offensive? Players like the attention they get on social media over (even non-commitable) offers from major programs. Start being the 1st in the door on these kids.
