I need some sort of outdoor storage box for BBQ and griddle equipment. Spatulas, scrapers, lighters, etc. Must be able to meet wife approval standards, i.e. no plastic sunbeam junk. What do you guys use to organize outdoor cooking equipment?

I feel your pain.  Recently built a pool.  Priority number one for me was the island.  Nest for the egg.  Outdoor fridge.  Giant, sealed leuters counter with plenty of space.  And a bevy of drawers and space under the island for lump, gear, etc.  It's been a game changer.  No doubt.

Prior, I used something like this:  modified pool deck box from Costco.  Weather proof.  Inside wasn't pretty, but wife wasn't concerned about that.  She just wanted all the gear stowed away and out of sight.

Alright, I cracked the lid on my BGE and I’m ready to step up to an offset/stick burner after 8 years of practice with lump on the BGE.  Does anybody have any advice or input on the following three options?

Lonestar Grillz https://lonestargrillz.com/collections/smokers/products/20-x-42-offset-smoker

Lyfe Tyme Inc - 20l 20”x40” single lid offset

https://www.lyfetyme.com/pricing/

Klose - 20”x42” without 1/2” firebox

http://bbqpits.net/

These are all $1600-$1900 and I’m not really looking to go over $2k.  I’ve had a hardon for the idea of a Klose forever, but the LSG actually looks like a better design with plate construction giving a lot more real estate inside compared to pipe.  I’m also not wanting to wait forever to find a used Klose because football and smoking season is a week away and I need something to distract me from how pitiful USC will be this year.

I’d go with one of these.  Not offset/stick I know, but this is my next smoker...

Interesting, but I already have a Lynx gas grill on my patio and have discovered that I only used the BGE for smoking.  No interest in any type of combo unit right now unless I cave and get a BGE XL which I already know exactly how to use.

Unless LSG sells them off the floor now, they have a waiting list and you won't be able to get it that fast.  They are worth the wait though.

LyfeTyme is the only on of those three that you can get a new one quickly. It would also be my 3rd choice of those three.

It's a bad name, but they make great pits.  They are constantly tweaking their designs and will make just about any modification you can dream up.

I’m sure they do.  There’s enough competition in the smoker game that I can choose to eliminate one based on the fact that their name annoys me and still have plenty of good options.

I’m assuming you’re going to say get the Klose?  Any thoughts on models and customization?

Klose says they have the 20x36 in stock.  Also an ultra sexy stainless one for three large.

36” is shorter than I would want, but go for it if it suits your needs. Or double your budget and get the 24”x48”, which is basically what I have. I got mine on CL for $500 from some dipshit.

I hate you.  I’ve done 4 racks of ribs on my egg and was assuming I could do 2 racks of ribs, a brisket and some sausage all at one time on the 36” which would suit my needs well.

You can do that on a 36”.  It may require the purchase of an accessory or two, but you can absolutely do it.

Yup.

I have a 24x48 and I'll say that I actually think the 24" diameter vs. 20" is even more important than taking the extra length.

The ability to set even very large briskets front to back is a game changer in capacity.

But that much area is also overkill for a lot of people, admittedly.

Agreed. My backyard pit would be perfect if it were 24”. I can’t justify upgrading unless I get a steal. I’ve got about $500 invested in a $3500 pit.

How do folks feel about pellet smokers?  (Already got 2 WSM)

I have had a Traeger for several years, after using an offset.

Personally, I will never go back.  I'm lazy, so I can get up, set the temp, put on the brisket (or whatever), and go back to bed.  For those that say you can't get enough smoke, I disagree, especially if you know how to use it.  It did take me a while, but that's no different than tuning in any other smoker and understanding how to use the smoker.

It's also great for doing a smoke/reverse sear on a steak, or doing a quick smoke on anything else.

I like the idea of being tied to my pit for most of the day.  It gives me a perfectly valid reason to not do anything else other than drink.  Especially this time of the year when there's football to watch all day.  I'd rather just reheat a brisket in my sous vide cooler than cook one with a pellet smoker.

You can get good food from a pellet smoker. The traeger brothers were just hired by a rival and there's a lawsuit so not sure how that will shake out.

That being said, I think I get better food out of my Komodo style cooker. It's almost as easy to keep at temp, just as versatile and I get the flavor of lump.

Food probably not as good as my old stick burner, but that was a fucking job to keep it dialed in.

I've had the Komodo go 18 hours +/- 5 degrees on one load of lump. That's good enough for me.

I like to be tied to my pit by a wifi connection on my phone while I am inside watching football in the A/C, not worried about temp control.

And pops, I agree that Egg/Komodo styles are great.

And by no means am I dissing stick burners. They are great, and make great barbeque.  I just like the convenience and versatility of my Traeger [or insert other pellet smoker name here]

A buddy of mine has placed and won several competitions using his Rec Tec pellet smokers.
So pellet smokers can put out some good BBQ. Just depends on what you are looking for.
This is actually the smoker I'm looking at buying. Pricey, but I dig being able to throw something on, go to work and monitor from my phone. As far as babysitting with beer, I'll never tell my wife that it's easier.
