Just saw on KXAN that Abbott has a 10 point lead. That's a blowout for a guy that's presided over bounties on abortions, made guns easier to access in the face of mass shootings, and the winter freeze. Then he got trounced in the debate.

It's amazing to me.

you can always find polls to tell you what you want to hear

I don't hear a poll that Beto is leading by 40 points and the United States has soundly rejected MAGA.

The Mother’s against Abbott ad featuring a OBGYN talking to a pregnant person out of camera range is fire. As the the camera pans out, you discover the Doctor is talking to a child who appears to be about 10. And Republicans feign concern about genital mutilation.

True, and that Republicans can complain about the ineffectiveness of any policy when they have been in control for 30 years is ridiculous.

Just want to say that Abbott's TV ads are whipping Beto's. As Bozo has mentioned, Beto will not go hard while Abbott has no problem. They are straightforward and fear-mongering. And I'd bet plenty of money that they fucking work.

The one with "Beto" destroying a cinderblock Texas with a sledgehammer? Wayyy stronger than anything Beto has done.

i keep thinking the phrases 'the sound of children screaming has been removed' and 'it could have been worse' need to be juxtaposed in an ad somewhere.

go for the jugular. fuck it.

^ Good point, I would have had that the bottom in those last few frames where he turns.

His canned remarks at his early voting rallies talk about schools.  But it's "Wokeness" "CRT" "Protecting Women's Sports" and sticking to the basics of RRR & STEM (says guy running one of the shittiest states for public education in the South).  Now I didn't expect to hear him talk about gun control, but he purposely doesn't even mention securing schools with more police or doorlocks or whatever.  Because he knows it immediately takes your mind to Uvalde.  But Dan Patrick and other high profile candidates talk about school security at every stump, but Abbott is trying to distance himself from the association.  These ads help reverse that course.

Daughter's school had another "lockdown drill" last week at school.  Their third one so far this year.  Principal literally wrote out, "It is our plan that these become as formulaic as a fire drill."  That made me sad.  I know it's a statistical improbability that she's ever in school with an active shooter, but the threat of it in the back of her mind is almost daily.  That can't be good for a 2nd grader.  If we're supposed to calm down our paranoia about a young man with an AR-15 shooting up a school, then the gun nuts can shut the fuck up about CRT and Trans athletics.  Victims of gun violence in Texas far outnumber the amount of women's varsity roster spots taken by males in transition.

@Poe It Up Interested whether or not this concerns you given your past comments on needing more incarceration in this state. How do you feel about Abbott defunding prisons in Texas?

I think it goes without saying that I hate it.

$4.3mm cash on hand with 6 days until Election Day, Beto?

Better continue to hold onto it just in case something comes up between now and then.  🙄

All his base needs to know is that he is a bastion against evil in the form of Nancy Pelosi and the radical socialist Dems. In fact, it's all they choose to know. In an imagined war for survival, policy takes a distant second in one's considerations.

Abbott robbing the prison system of money is further evidence of why America's prisons are a disgrace. What luxury items will they cut from the budget to meet these losses? There are none. I will guess that the cuts will come from any place that provides security for prisoners. Fewer guards. More lax supervision. More beatings and rapes.

In a rational society you could make the highly complicated argument, try to keep up, that robbing the prison budget will likely lead to (gasp) more early releases to ease crowding (as mandated by law or who cares?) So, compare releasing convicted felons from prison to Beto's plan to ease bail requirements so the lives of the merely accused are not destroyed by incarceration prior to trial or arraignment.

I know only a genius could come up with that line of logic. I'm proud of myself.

Abbott's side is claiming they're fighting a war to save us poor terrified Americans. Dems push policy as though this isn't a banana republic. If Dems can only win by turning into GOPs, the republic is lost. The sorry odds of fighting the good fight are likely the best bet for saving the country.

Texas is likely lost forever, but fight on Beto! Your good opinion of Texans will be given the lie yet again.

I follow you and agree to a large extent but the reality in a for profit prison world is that revenue is cut so expenses are cut meaning we effectively violate the 8th Amendment. But nothing to see here, civil rights are only for white cisgender straight wealthy guys, it’s like the cereal commercial, silly rabbit trix are for kids.

Gov. Greg Abbott declares immigration from Mexico to be invasion

TYLER, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott says he has invoked the Invasion Clauses of the U.S. and Texas Constitutions to declare immigration from Mexico as an invasion.

Gov. Abbott says he will "fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion."

Gov. Abbott says the following steps will be taken by the state:

Deploy the National Guard to safeguard the border, and to repel and turn back immigrants trying to cross the border illegally

Deploy the Texas Dept. of Public Safety (DPS) to arrest and return immigrants to the border who crossed illegally, and to arrest illegal immigrants for criminal activity;

Build a wall in multiple counties on the border;

Deploy gun boats;

Designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations;

Enter into a compact with other states to secure the border;

Enter into agreements with foreign powers to enhance border security;

Provide resources for border counties to increase their efforts to respond to the "border invasion."

Some of those aren’t actually batshit crazy ideas but who are these “foreign powers” we are going to enter into agreements with to enhance border security?  Volkswagen?  Sri Lanka?  European Union?  FIFA?  Peru?

That's going to make it real tough for kids to go anywhere at Halloween.  Even school.  You have one goddamned girl dress up as Dracula and you've got to pack every schoolteacher off to the hoosegow.

And don't even get me started on the church Christmas pageant.

This Southern Baptist aggy has also introduced a bill to turn the City of Austin into the District of Austin, requiring city leadership to report to the Lt. Governor and the Speaker of the House, as well as one that would designaye any gender affirming medical care for minors as child abuse.

Well done, western Frisco, The Colony, Little Elm, and Pilot Point.

So my choices are being run by Steve Adler or Dan Patrick?  Can I lock them Both in a trans bathroom and let ‘em fuck it, I mean fight it, out?

i mean boys dressed as cheerleaders and girls as football players for a pep rally is still a regular thing in Texas high schools. wtf.

Yeah that’s true, but the boys and girls still want to fuck each other even when they’re dressed as the opposite sex. Absolutely normal and healthy. Which makes it ok.
