I have never understood why the governor, a Texas Ex that has done nothing but support the school, is mocked with a nickname that makes fun of his disability on a Texas website.

The fact that they make fun of his disability is pathetic. They’ll justify it because they disagree with him politically. I’ll never understand why it’s condoned here. Pos rep to you.

It occurs to me that the only two politicians I ever met who were actually decent human beings ended up getting slaughtered in elections. Record-setting slaughters, mind you.

Wonder what that says about democracy in general.

I prefer to think the land of Texas put him down.

But, sure, @Statsman, it is much worse to ridicule a powerful man in a wheelchair than it is to enact policy that actually hurts everyone who is also in a wheelchair. Ask your daughter to finish this old saw, “Sticks and stones …”

Abbott doesn’t realize he is the fucking I in DEI. Without shit like this and advocacy from the ADA he would never be able to roll his ass up into major government buildings. I’m surprised that people haven’t started spray painting the letter I on a bunch of ADA ramps around the Capitol to drive the point across.

I agree with this sentiment privately, but publicly mocking Abbott as “wheels” undermines our side because it comes across as cruel to all the stupid people who only have a surface level understanding of politics.

Abbott’s disability needs to be embraced by his opponents as a major stepping stone for how DEI has helped shaped his career and his political success. It is literally the pathway he takes to his office. Handicapped parking, wheelchair ramps, accessible bathrooms and hotel rooms are ubiquitous to our daily lives. It’s an opportunity to plant a seed where the Republicans haven’t already crafted a narrative.

Nothing could torpedo a career faster than being put on a pedestal by Democrats by becoming the living embodiment of the I in DEI. Dems just have to praise the success of the ADA in allowing for a man like Abbott to be included and able to roll up to the Capitol all on his own and become the Governor of Texas. Even though this is all completely bullshit, voters eat shit like this up the way they do with Ivermectin.

Bullshit. Logic and reason are meaningless and worthless with them. They speak in memes and wrestling moves. Epic body slams are all that resonates with them.
TLDR; the only thing that moves the needle is performative cruelty. So we need to perform better than the GQP.

Btw. I don’t mock Abbott as “wheels” because I don't mock handicapped people for their handicap. But there is no humane or laudable behavior that Democrats can engage in that will make Republican voters less likely to vote for Greg Abbott or any Republican. The only thing that works in this environment is opposition and attack.
Abbott’s issue with Republicans that Democrats could exploit if they spent five minutes trying to understand the Republican base in Texas is that he’s weak, boring and a pussy. Cornyn too. That’s material ripe to be exploited and I have no idea* why they don’t work with what they are given.

* actually I do- because they are myopic, out of touch, privileged losers.

While I don’t recall using the term “wheels,” it doesn’t bother me near as much as your use of the term “retarded.”

That’s not what I was talking about, which is the constant movement of posts into some random thread you never posted in.  A very heavy handed way of de-cluttering threads in order to not look like TexAgs. I’ve never bothered to look at that site long enough to ascertain their opinion on our governor.

The chuds have completely conflated DEI with affirmative action.  Sure, they're related, but DEI shouldn't be considered anything but benign, really.

Same for CRT.  No one gave a shit it was actually graduate research, but we needed a movement to keep it out of kindergarten.   I suppose we should have another movement to keep topology out of 1st Grade, but those motherfuckers probably think it has to do with maps.

DEI is newish while affirmative action is old sounding.

People also know affirmative action and what it is. Maybe they don’t agree with it, but it’s not sinister to them.

DEI sounds vaguely official and can be whatever you define it as.

You can blame everything on it. It’s a catch all that affirmative action isn’t.

So DEI is affirmative action, kitty litter boxes in bathrooms, mandatory trans operations on babies, illegal immigrants given preferential treatment over poors, a drag show for pets, when on the front lines, and reparations.

It’s all the infinity gauntlet of the last 40 years of Republican boogie men.

This right here is my main beef with Abbott, he actively pulled the ladder up behind him after getting his payday and that makes him a terrible person. All the other stuff about him being a clown willing to suck a golf ball thru a garden hose if it means getting more political clout or a chance at impressing the Orange God is secondary and really just politicians as usual stuff.

Certainly a noble position, one I generally take in life . . . except when it comes to Abbott.  While maybe it crosses a line, I don't think many of us are mocking Abbott as handicapped just for his handicap.  Instead, his spinal accident, while tragic for any person, was followed by a lawsuit that brought him a decent amount of cash, and he subsequently spent the better part of his career supporting tort reform that limits recovery for thousands of injured Texans every year.  So his wheelchair is a device for his ridicule.

But yes, we can also whale on him for being a weak political weather vane, a pandering poser, and an overall huge pussy, all without mentioning his disability.

He won a lot of money for being injured.  He made it a priority to make sure others couldn't do the same thing later in life.  He is a terrible human being who has no moral compass.  He deserves every ounce of the hatred that is directed at him.
