Abbott being Abbott

he’s not exactly mr personality

Our daughters go to school together and they were in the same Y Princesses group when our girls were K-2 (they’re HS freshmen now). Clay is plenty smart but he’s an odd dude. I’d say he’s negative on the personality scale — but he’s much more polished now than he was then.

I can't remember exactly why, but I was not particularly impressed by Jenkins until the virus broke out.  I do recall that he was a Republican that became a Democrat basically for purposes of election.  That has always seemed sort of disingenuous to me, but it's not that big a deal in a local, non-statehouse election usually.

I think his leadership on the virus has been pretty good to exemplary.

Abbott pandering to the dumbest among us.

Meanwhile:

Two National Guard troops removed from inaugural protection duty for possible links to extremist groups.

Two National Guard troops have been removed from duties related to the inauguration of President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. following vetting for links to right-wing extremist movements, a Pentagon official said on Tuesday.

The official declined to provide any details about the vetting that detected the Guard members, who are from two different states.

The acting defense secretary, Christopher C. Miller, said on Sunday that the F.B.I. was assisting the U.S. military in vetting more than 25,000 National Guard troops being deployed to assist in protecting the Capitol and areas in central Washington for potential security concerns.

An Army spokesperson declined to provide any information on the two National Guard troops or the vetting procedures, citing operational security, and referred all questions to the U.S. Secret Service.

The announcement of their removal comes as the Pentagon is intensifying efforts to identify and combat white supremacy and other far-right extremism in its ranks as federal investigators seek to determine how many military personnel and veterans joined the violent assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6.

The F.B.I. investigation into the Capitol siege, still in its very early stages, has identified at least six suspects with military links out of the more than 100 people who have been taken into federal custody or the larger number still under investigation. They include a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel from Texas, an Army officer from North Carolina and an Army reservist from New Jersey. Another person with military service was shot and killed in the assault.

The military’s examination of its ranks marks a new urgency for the Pentagon, which has a history of downplaying the rise of white nationalism and right-wing activism, even as Germany and other countries are finding a deep strain embedded in their armed forces.

Federal officials are vetting thousands of National Guard troops arriving to help secure the inauguration. Of the 21,500 Guard personnel who had arrived in Washington by Monday, any who will be near President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will receive additional background checks, a standard procedure to counter insider threats that was also taken before President Trump’s inauguration in 2017.

Defense Department officials say they are looking into stepping up the monitoring of social media postings from service members, in much the way companies do with their employees.

Ashli Babbitt, who was shot and killed trying to climb through a door in the Capitol, was an Air Force veteran with a robust social media presence.

The reckoning at the Pentagon comes as retired Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III is poised to become the nation’s first Black defense secretary, an ascension that, depending on how General Austin decides to proceed, could either sharpen or blur the American military’s decades-long battles with racial inequality and white supremacy. General Austin’s confirmation hearings begin on Tuesday, and lawmakers will most likely press him on how he plans to tackle extremism in the ranks.

Know how I know Abbott didn't serve in the military?  Besides the wheelchair thing?

Everybody gets some kind of background check when they enter.  You know, vetting.

And if you want into an MOS that requires a security clearance, or you are going to be an in area that requires you, guess what, you get another, stricter background check, aka vetting.

Greg Abbott: "I will not TOLERATE anyone questioning the loyalty of US troops!"

Also Greg Abbott:

Quote

He announced that he was going to ask the Texas State Guard to monitor Operation Jade Helm from start to finish.

"It is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed upon," Abbott said.

It seems that the only inviolable platform of the GOP is idiotic hypocrisy.

did gov dickweed take any questions today ?

When’s the last time this fuck stick took unscripted questions from the press ?

Surprisingly he did. But they set it up so you couldn’t hear the reporters question so If he didn’t like the question he just dismissed it or passed it off to a flunky sitting next to him.

He is a bigger piece of shit than Rick perry and that is tough to do. He needs some Texas style jail time justice. He can pass the buck all he wants but he and dickwad perry are most responsible for this complete failure and fiasco. They appointed the PUC commissioners who allowed this failure to happen. With an assist from the lege and ERCOT incompetence (at best).

Jenkins will get branded the exact same way. Everyone will.

Yeah, but Jenkins doesn't have the "take your guns" albatross.  Plus Jenkins is just as likeable, stable while coming off as less an activist.  That's a bit like the Biden vs every other 2020 D candidate.    Jenkins covers a lot of bases.

I'd like Staci Williams to run for AG.   She ran for Supreme Court,  but fell short.  She's an impressive person.

Everyone who isn’t a Republican will be painted as a socialist, baby killing, gun snatching pedo. The only way to win here is massive turnout and Beto is probably the best chance at that.

Yes he does. Over 50 percent of the electorate in this state absolutely believes anyone with a D by their name wants to confiscate all guns, take control of the means of production, ban religion, and make abortion mandatory. The fear machine will be rolling. Democrats could run God himself and it wouldn’t matter.

What's funny about Abbott and the GOP in General is they talk all this bullshit about responsibilty, and they never, every take ANY!!!!

What state deserves a federal bailout more at this point, New York or Texas?  New York had a pandemic they had to deal with with citizens dying right and left, that was largely NOT assisted by any federal funding..  Or Texas, the most energy rich state in the nation, whose piss poor planning in the zeal of no regulation made us shit our own bed?

Abbott of course has his hand out for federal dollars as always... but damn take some fucking responsibility in the process.

Are there gun nuts that are independent voters? No. FFS, get over it and leave them already. Plurality is not a majority. Anyone that NEEDS or WANTS a gun, will have one for hunting.

There’s a winning chunk of immigrant voters currently up for grabs that own small businesses and think bullshit R economic views have merit, along with abortion only voters that can change the results.

Greg Abbot less than two weeks ago, when he accepted an award for Texas' Wind Energy Leadership:

"Texans know that responsible stewardship of our environment must be a priority as we continue to utilize the natural resources available to us while also preserving the treasure that Texas is," said Gov. Abbott in his Clean Energy Week Proclamation. "For this reason, clean and renewable energy are a valuable part of America's future and are closely tied with Texas' prosperity and success. While Texas continues its leadership in production in our oil and gas sector, the Lone Star State also is a national and international leader in wind energy."

So he was a great believer in renewables when he was being given an award for it, but less than 10 days later was singing a different tune when he needed someone to scapegoad

To be fair, he called them by their correct name, Texas A&M Aggies.  He didn't leave off the A&M. That means he isn't full aggy.

I mean, he still sucks, but not for that reason.

He used his position to try to influence the CFB playoff (and that too for aggy). He could have spent that time doing numerous other things to help the state. Let that sink in. So he sucks for tweeting that, too.

Politics aside, more of an indictment of journalism---how the hell has no major news outlet picked up on that?  I've seen his comments lambasted on everything from Bloomberg, to Reuters, the Today Show, and Last Week Tonight and nobody has caught that?  Granted the award sounds like it was from the Onion, "Wind Energy Leadership" or a Bette Midler song.  But how has that not gotten more ironical attention?

The nation has not voted for a Republican in the general election who held a law degree since 1972, which'll make 52 years by the time 2024 comes around.  They're not going to vote for Abbott.  Say what you want about him...he's an educated man.

The current GOP, as it's now configured, won't vote for anybody who appears too educated.

The 2024 nomination is a race to the bottom and we're all along for the ride.

Abbott and Co. are so far removed from people who are still dealing with shit from the storm.

Does he have an R next to his name on the ballot?  Then it won't make a shit; he'll get reelected w/ ease.  That is, unless he loses the R primary to a Qanon punk, then that dude/woman will be governor.

Qanon/Trumpies are already planning on primarying him.   I think that's partly why he's pushing to lift the restrictions completely, those people are fucking pissed at him - they consider him to be a Democrat because of the covid stuff.

If the qanon/Trumpies had their way, he'd take a long roll off of a short cliff.

Vaccination sites crashing by the hundreds each day and we're gonna roll back restrictions this week...two weeks BEFORE spring break?  So he can avoid a far-right primary challenger?  So our state is like legit-retarded now, right?  Oh wait, at least we've got abundant heat for our homes.
