Because I follow a lot of Beto accounts, I occasionally get Texas specific information in my feed.

This is a great thread that spells out what the fat cats are donating and who they are and the vast discrepancy between R fundraising and D fundraising.

Also, I thought this would be of interest if you don’t want to read the whole thread.

Man I really wish I hadn't seen this.

Charles Butt is an old, rich white bread incel. Who did y’all expect him to support politically?

He’s running a big business in Texas.  You can bet his competitors are dumping plenty of money on Republicans as well.

If next year the Dems came into power in Texas, Butt and everybody else would be dumping money into their coffers.

Probably shouldn’t be surprised by it but its notable how much the big donors are dominated by O&G rather than banking, law, or tech.

I also suspect some of those interests mask their influence better.  Republicans (and Aggies) typically are are a little too anxious to tout their bonafides.

Just so y'all know, on B'ham Right Wing Talk Radio, the crustiest callers carry on about how they wish we'd ditch Kay Ivey and get a REAL governor like DeSantis or Abbott.

I don't know how many of these guys will move in the next few years, but I reckon half of em go to Florida, and the other half roll up into Texas. Enjoy.

Mama Butt -  Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth Butt - did a lot of good things for humanity.

Her son (Charles) honors her, so he can't be all bad (I hope).

(Grand?)Daughter Eleanor lives a couple of houses down from me.  She's about 90 and has nurses taking care of her 24/7, but saying that she's been a net positive for humanity is a huuuuuge understatement:

to be fair, this is some rare consistency from abbott and the GOP. Their 2012 party platform outlined some regressive shit that is very in vogue right now if you think democrats eat children

Hey, yall remember Abbott's letter threatening school libraries for "stocking porn on their shelves" and other vague accusations that's just more culture war horseshit? Turns out he sent it to the wrong board in the first place lmao. A spokesperson for the Texas Association of School Boards said that the organization is “confused” about the letter since they have “no regulatory authority over school districts” and don’t set any standards for library books.

It's a bit of crossing the thread streams, but we're not too far off from book burning at this point. Getting pretty fascie up in this state. If only there was some historic mile markers we could look to for reference.....

Wanna lay a wager on whether any of them toss some of the referenced titles into the fire this year?  @Lobo 'bout to get PAID.

Aggy is pretty progressive these days.

Or they could turn the whole library into a Bonfire of the Inanities.

Fucking embarrassing.  It's finally hitting the national stage.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, called on the state's school boards to remove books he described as "pornography," a move that comes after at least two state lawmakers have asked officials to investigate books in schools.

Abbot's letter, sent to the Texas Association of School Boards on Monday, did not cite a specific book that contains what he described as "pornography." Last week, Texas Republican lawmaker, Jeff Cason, released a statement calling on the state's Attorney General to investigate books he also described as "pornography." In his statement, he singled out the graphic novel "Gender Queer" by Maia Kobabe.

So this shit was still going on in 2015...how long had Republicans been in power at that point?

Also:

Greg abbot may be the biggest hypocrite in history. He’s dedicated his whole adult life to prevent other people who suffer similar fates as him from gaining the benefits his predecessors gave him. He’s basically a comic book villain at this point.

I don't think Abbott cares, because he got what he wanted out of it - "Hey, I tried but those awful librool justices were against me, which is why you need to send me more money, and why you need to send me to the White House in 2024!".   The state wasn't even actively trying to shut schools/districts down over this

This was all words on a piece of paper meant to shut up the Huffines'/MAGA crowd and raise money.

I dunno, even smart conservatives have to look at this realize it's all grandstanding and politcal games that make him look extremely weak. Has SCOTUS upheld any law he has signed that came before them? Ineffectual weakness is all I see.

Abbott is living in the moment.  He wasn't thinking long term about how this would make him look, he was responding to Huffines and others.

And at the time, more than a few people said the ADA was going to knock this order out, and it did.  Abbott has a legal background, and I'm sure either he or somebody around him brought up the ADA at the time.

Except it was a Republican appointee backed by John Cornyn.  But Abbott's rubes don't know and/or don't care.

Yeah I know, but they don't care - any judge who doesn't deepthroat MAGA is librool.

Those dozens of (R) judges who ruled against Trump were all librools, or deep staters who fooled Trump.

My girlfriend is chair of her high school English department. In order to comply with Abbott’s pornography hunt, three teachers have to read each book so the district is actually having to buy additional copies of each book so the three teachers can each have one to read. So congrats to the publishers and authors I guess.
