Agreed from an obstruction/collusion aspect. Need to subpoena Mueller for obstruction questions IF there isn't a broader release (looks like there will be). There is so much on the policy/stupidity side that we should focus on in anticipation for 2020, but we won't because Dems.

But if Barr’s summary is accurate, and there is no damming evidence, it is really perplexing why Trump hasn’t been endzone dancing for 3 days.

Well the man has class so why would he........  nah... no idea, he should be doing the Icky Woods endzone dance on a nationally televised event, based in his previous history.

Just to be clear, the report seems to clear Trump re: colluding in the 2016 election intelligence operation.   His bizarre behavior towards Putin is still unexplained, and the report doesn't necessarily address any of the other things out there like the possible kompromat, Russian loans, etc.  Which Mueller could have referred out to SDNY etc.

I don't think this says the report clears him. It's meant to be subject to that interpretation (probably to make Trump happy), but Barr is very specific with his language and nowhere does he say that Mueller found no evidence of collusion. What he says is that Mueller "did not find that any U.S. person or Trump campaign official or associate conspired or knowingly coordinated with the IRA..." and that Mueller "did not find that the Trump campaign, or anyone associated with it, conspired or coordinated with the Russian government" in the efforts to conduct computer hacking operations.

That leaves open a lot of possibilities.

It's impressive how quickly the Trumpkins literally have forgotten that Manafort got sentenced and Stone got arrested all in the span of what, a couple of weeks? But ya, nothing illegal being committed at all. Bootlickers, just admit you love fascism as long as its your dear leader.

Mueller's report was about evidence for and against, not a decision.

Barr's letter is about his decision.

I'll be interested to hear what Rosenstein's thoughts are.  There's a fair chance he and Barr had areas of disagreement, with Barr having the final say.  Something of this magnitude can't be left in the hands of a potential sweeper.

It's also for Congress to consider.  Full Mueller report needs to come out.

Congress needs to move on. If they keep hammering, it will only hurt them politically at this point.

Donald Trump won. The best thing to do would be to ignore the political victory and get on with the business of legislation.

This is false.

That is what the AG is saying in this case.

In making this determination, we noted that the Special Counsel recognized that "the evidence does not establish that the President was involved in an underlying crime related to Russian election interference," and that, while not determinative, the absence of such evidence bears upon the President's intent with respect to obstruction. Generally speaking, to obtain and sustain an obstruction conviction, the government would need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a person, acting with corrupt intent, engaged in obstructive conduct with a sufficient nexus to a pending or contemplated proceeding. In cataloguing the President's actions, many of which took place in public view, the report identifies no actions that, in our judgment, constitute obstructive conduct, had a nexus to a pending or contemplated proceeding, and were done with corrupt intent, each of which, under the Department's principles of federal prosecution guiding charging decisions, would need to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt to establish an obstruction-of justice offense.

All of that was to get to Trump. So either he's an evil genius, he didn't do what he was 100% sure fire guilty of, or the special counsel just wasn't smart enough to catch him (Mr. Mueller is no dummy).

Release the report, maybe they're just waiting for the right movie deal to come along.

Congress needs to subpoena the report and release it. This summary was written to show Trump in the best light. The actual report will make him look worse. Purely as political strategy, the Dems should want the worse impression to be the last one the public is left with.

Thing is, if it really was as bad as it could have been, would it have been in the country’s best interest to make all that public?  Wouldn’t that just be handing Putin another win?

I had a feeling they’d be very careful on how they handled this and worked in the best interest of the country.   I’m thankful for Mueller’s service and accept his conclusions.

Trump still has a shitload of problems but the Mueller investigation isn’t one anymore.

An underlying crime makes it easier to prosecute obstruction because it helps demonstrate the intent but it is absolutely possible to convict someone for obstruction without an underlying crime. For example, a parent who obstructs a police investigation into their kid because they suspect their kid has drugs and doesn't want them to get caught can be guilty of obstruction even though they aren't sure and even if the kid in fact has no drugs.

Yes you can. I'd imagine there were a shit ton of people in his campaign and some of them have had ties to foreign entities. He didn't/wouldn't  know what all of them were doing at all times. That unknown would have to be scary even to someone who didn't do anything wrong.

Honestly this is a great day for the republic. I'm a dem (and it sure as shit wasn't agrest day for the party) but the president not selling out to a foreign entity is a great fucking thing. Now let's try to point out all his true faults and get our image of the future in. Oh and let's not try and give him anymore +10 point days like we did today. But of course there will be more shit flung than actual policy talk.

Put the onus on DOJ to release it. A subpoena at this point makes the Democrats look weak.

Watch Nancy Pelosi. I'll trust her lead with regard to politics.
