The Robert Mueller Investigation

An attack on democratic elections is an act of war imo. We just don't want to acknowledge it as a nation.

I always picture a high schooler in 2030 reading their history book on this time period and wondering wtf? If there are books in '30.

They do this by having nonpartisan and multi-partisan leadership in their government work together to educate their populations on the threats/tactics and also invest in things like media literacy and disinformation identification services.

Sounds like a buncha pussy talk to me. Ain't nobody working with no elite coastal libtard. MAGA!

A good supplement to the Mueller Report which got almost ZERO press coverage a year ago:

https://www.foreign.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/FinalRR.pdf

This is a comprehensive bipartisan Senate report that goes into some detail about what the Russians have been doing all over Europe and what each country has been doing to mitigate the threat.

What Macron did in France during his election was brilliant.

the 14 open investigations and the ola policy being lifted.

sorry, was that a serious question?

i still don't understand the mindset.  are they sitting behind their keyboards giggling, or are they really that brainwashed?

It was an honest question. I’ve lost track of a lot of the investigations. It’s shrouded in a lot of speculation. Saying he’s going to be indicted the second he leaves office implies they have him dead to rights on something. I wasn’t sure which one specifically was being referenced, if any.

I was going off an article on The Hill with quotes from both sides. Not sure what you object with in that post.

Quote

“69% think Congress ought to investigate the origins of the Justice Department's inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 election, including 76% of Democrats, 69% of independents and 62% of Republicans.”

I love how the Trump fanboy club is giddy over an investigation into what prompted the DOJ to begin investigating the Trump campaign. Not sure its going to turn out exactly as they think....

i don't think there's any doubt he's broken the law, both before and during his presidency.  now there's a big difference between breaking the law and being indicted.  and there's a big difference between being indicted and being jailed.  just as there's a big difference in committing impeachable offenses, actually being impeached, and actually being removed through impeachment.

all that gibberish aside, i believe the smart money is on the sdny quietly building their case and bringing an indictment whenever they're legally able to do so - once the olc policy is lifted and once congress is no longer in charge of "policing" what the president does.  whether there's any merit to their case(s), who's to say.  but i bet it'll come.

i don't even know what it's for, but i think it's already pretty much proven that he's committed insurance fraud and tax fraud at the very least.  he's likely inflated/deflated his worth to get funding/dodge taxes.  if they can get into his banking, they'll uncover a hornet's nest of shit i would imagine.  follow the money, as always.

the irony is, if he hadn't become president, he would've gotten away with everything.

I use imgbb.com.  Surly thread https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/index.php?/topic/87-embedding-videos-and-photos/page/5/&tab=comments#comment-572760

Doubtful sadly.

Part of why we are where we are currently at as a nation, is a woeful lack of education in more recent history. 1970- Present. I remember in High School and even undergrad routinely running out of time in the semester to cover more recent history. Every year. And I was an American Studies Major.

Isn't "Huge Attack" kind of embellishing a bit?  I find it a bit ironic that the we've been meddling forever in other country's affairs and we currently have people like Hugo all over the country doubling down on the Russian hysteria for some two-bit trolling done that was compared to "Pearl Harbor" from folks like Jerry Nadler.  It sounds a little loony and demands a big tin-foil hat.

Ahh I never saw that talking point coming. More ‘both sides’, ensured to upend faith in our underlying democratic processes.

Oh and hey Dolemite, gonna join in the discussion or or just press the like button?

Yes, you MAY be wrong.

I hope they impeach. I really do. It would be fantastic. Nothing, and I mean nothing, could possibly entertain me more than if they impeach.

I can think of A LOT of things that would entertain me more. But, hey, that's your fetish.

The Russian attacks were digital implementations of the same shit we have been doing since the late 40's around the world.  The real root problem in terms of our susceptibility to the current wave of interference is not Russia or some leap in technological sophistication, the root issue is the animal looking us back in the mirror.  We created the political divisions and divisiveness that external entities are exploiting, because we are a fundamentally broken society with a dysfunctional culture.  Toodles.

The Russians are ankle biters. China is the real threat. This whole Russia thing is a canard.

It's like when Romney said Russia was our biggest threat (wrong), and Obama said the 80's called they want their foreign policy back. It made for witty banter but nobody knew what either of them were talking about, including Romney and Obama.

Edit: I forgot #bothsides

And the political coalition that you support no matter what plays to the central strategic objective of each - diminishing the western liberal consensus in the case of Russia, and weakening the position of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency while deprioritizing research leadership in the case of China.

Good job, hammer.

But setting that aside, has he done enough to address the issue? Not at all.  He should be hammering them publicly and privately about it.  I think he's been tougher on Russia than he gets credit for but not vocal or tough enough about the bullshit they pulled.

Please tell us how Dotard has been tougher on Russia and I'll tell you half a dozen ways he hasn't been, beginning with lifting sanctions and the Magnitsky Act.  And show your work.

https://themoscowproject.org/collusion/trump-administration-lifts-sanctions-on-firms-tied-to-deripaska/ or choose Time, NBC, CBS, Reuters, whatever--most wrote about it.

I do.  Just guessing but I think he views it like this, if I come off too strong against the Russians then it looks like I'm trying too hard to be tough because of the investigation, even though I did not conspire with them.  I think he always wanted to play 'nice' with them, even before he started running, because he wanted to pull back from any international conflicts.  A hopelessly naive position, imo.

He wanted a hotel in Moscow--why does this fact conveniently slip people's minds?  That's a big chunk missing from your stated argument.  It also directly ties him to Russian interference.

It'd be the first impeachment where both houses of Congress weren't controlled by the same party.  Politically, it doesn't come without risk.  Meh.

Spine--using it looks a lot more heroic.  That comes with risk--doing the right thing always has.  But that's also what being a leader should mean--stating your actual opinions and going to the mat for your actual beliefs or at least protecting Democracy.

Just now, Satchel said:

Do you object to the US being involved in this kind of counterintelligence?

I think that counterintelligence by the FBI targeting US politicians and associated individuals, especially given the history of the FBI,  is highly fraught. I think that if such activities are conducted, they need to be able to withstand a very close level of scrutiny.  I look forward to seeing what comes of that scrutiny by the OIG. My thoughts on the matter are generally well known here.  And unlike most of the other conspiracy lunatics that have used this thread to propagate nonsense, I will be happy to take my medicine and admit that I was wrong if the OIG report demonstrates that my concerns are totally unfounded. I don't bat perfect, but I got a pretty good average over the course of this thread.
