The,Democrats who are being urged by James Carville to be “dignified” are awakening to the realization of a de-energized base fueled by in part by their refusal to fight when they can.

You know those random texts from random numbers you get that are just "Hello," and then if you reply, they act like a chick to try to rope you in and get you to send them money or some shit?  I instantly delete every single one of those that crosses my phone.

But I delete every Dem fundraising text even faster.

Fuck 'em.  Why send ammunition to someone who's just going to throw it at the enemy if they even bother to do that much?

No, this is wrong. He fucked this up in a half dozen different ways, if not more. He assumed that Johnson wouldn't be able to pass a CR out of the House and that he wouldn't get pushed into a tough decision, and he never contemplated any alternative scenarios. That's why the House caucus is fucking incandescent with rage right now; he let them go out on a limb and vote against this only to turn around and betray them. If he'd told them a month ago, WHEN JOHNSON WAS LOOKING FOR DEM VOTES, they could've at least tried to negotiate for something better than this. Then he tried to cover his own ass by lying to the public about his caucus' stance while going hat in hand to the literal enemy to beg him for help covering his ass.

Schumer needed to decide a month ago whether he and his caucus had the stomach for shutting the government down and coordinate with the House leadership on strategy. It's a disqualifying mixture of stupidity, laziness, and cowardice that makes Kevin McCarthy look competent by comparison.

Why would he assume Johnson couldn’t pass a CR out of the House when Massey was the only holdout? It didn’t matter when Schumer decided to cave. Any ultimate decision he made would redound to the GOP’s benefit. He knew it. Johnson knew it and Dems pushing for a shutdown knew it.

The nos all need to be primaried too. Unless you see them move to remove Schumer from leadership in the next few days, it's a safe bet that many of them are chickenshit and only voted no because there were enough yes votes to give them cover. Assuming they don't do that, none of them can be trusted because none of them can be honest with their own voters.

Yeah. It is over. We got sold out y'all.

Trump got everything he wanted for nothing. Just threaten the money of the Democrats donors and they will surrender completely.

Schumer was all "we will win! we will win!" then surrendered at the first battle.

This yes vote was opposed by virtually everybody in the party. We just got betrayed.

No. That is a lie. That is Schumer propaganda. Legitimizing Trump's actions and giving Trump all he wants or giving Trump a big problem by shutting down the government. So give Trump everything he wants.

But that is not even counting the enormous and fatal damage he is doing to his own party.

The political reality augers against the efficacy of a brave fight. At the first sign of SS checks not showing up on time or at all, Dems would have been blamed. You’re naive to think that Musk and Trump wouldn’t screw with the livelihoods of millions SS recipients. They would do so with glee

They're going to do that anyway.

They'll blame the Dems, with no basis in reality.

It will work.

Because America's greatest, most limitless natural resource, is stupidity.

I mean, that wouldn’t be a problem if their theory of politics wasn’t so fucking broken. They’re supposed to want to get elected. It’s just that they’re supposed to understand what a majority of voters wants from them and they’ve got no fucking clue!

I disagree a little bit. I think they are supposed to do what they think is best for their constituents and there is no fucking way that they can think that funding this shit show of a government is what is best for their constituents.

so here's the question - what does trump do with a 'funded' govt and what would he have done with a 'shutdown' govt? my guess is that it's the same picture. /pam

i guess theoretically since he's going to blame the dems for all the dumb, terrible shit he does anyway, at least it'll be slightly harder to believe in this current scenario.

that's the only silver lining i could get to. you know how long it took me to get there? a long time.

Same picture, yes.  But a bunch of innocent federal workers don't get paid and even more services curtailed, if temporarily.

Boycott Contributions to Senate Democrats Until Chuck Schumer Steps Down

wfHhWlfinbqYQtl-800x450-noPad.jpg?174191

The Issue

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York has led the Senate Democratic Caucus since 2017.

Between Election Day in 2024 and Inauguration Day in January, Mr. Schumer completely failed to prepare for the widely anticipated threats posed to the stability of our country by Trump and Elon Musk.

In the early months of the 119th Congress, Mr. Schumer has been effectively impotent as Minority Leader, offering no comprehensive plan or strategy to combat the efforts by Trump and Elon Musk to demolish the federal government and harm the American people.

Drastic and unnecessary cuts to essential programs and agencies that help the most vulnerable in our country should not be tolerated by any lawmaker, let alone Democratic leadership.

Mr. Schumer's stated approach of waiting for Trump to "screw up" and continue this inexplicable embrace of the slippery slope is wholly inadequate and an astonishing failure of leadership.

With his vote to approve Trump's federal budget continuing resolution, Mr. Schumer has decidedly abdicated his critical responsibilities to the American people in a moment of compounding crises for our nation and the world.

We, the undersigned, completely reject Mr. Schumer's approach of appeasement in response to the deeply irresponsible, dangerous, and cruel attacks by Trump and Elon Musk on the American people.

Until Senate Democrats force Mr. Schumer to step down as Minority Leader, we will not give a dime to any Senate Democrat, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the Democratic National Committee, or any other organization or committee that financially supports any Senate Democrat.

Enough is enough. We need new leadership to meet this grave moment, and we need it now.

AOC is going to be firing off a whole lot of salvos for a good while at these cowards. She is the leader we need, but instead we get an old hunchback who has a foot in the grave and just doesn’t care anymore.

Had a shut down gone on longer than 30 days, Trump could have declared thousands of federal workers to be nonessential and they would  have been fired with no recourse.

You do realize that has already been happening? And will continue to happen regardless of Schumer playing politics like it’s the kumbaya 1970’s?

I watched Josh Shapiro on Bill Maher's show last night (and stopped there. Just wanted to see what Shapiro had to say). I could not have been less impressed. Lots of "Well gee Bill, I'm not really into national politics. I'm worried about the issues that concern the average Pennsylvania families...." Ok thanks generic politician from any era. I get you want to run in 2028, but maybe we should make sure we have an intact country in which for you to run.

Also, he did the thing that really enrages me. We've seen a lot of this recently. "Look, I'm just going to say it. And I'm not afraid to say it: I am not 100% on board with all of Donald Trump's policies, and I think there is a possibility that one day down the road, they could perhaps be somewhat damaging." Fuck you. Chuck Schumer is going harder than that.

Oh and hey, Gavin Newsom had Steve Bannon on his podcast this week. This feels like a war that is 100% lost.

And shutting down the government would have made it harder for Trump to advance his policies and to keep his promises.

And the picture for mainstream media is also increasingly grim.

Just have to soldier on.

But it also shows how delusional the idea is that the Democrats can just sit back, watch Trump destroy everything, and then be called back into power with huge margins. They have to put more money and support for their message in social media and podcasting.

He’s using a tried and true tactic perfected in the private sector. He’s using poor performance as the predicate. In a shut down, he wouldn’t even have to lie about that. He could with impunity, simply declare thousands to be non essential and its game over.

What's stopping him from doing that anyway?

Yes, but a lot of it has to do with the audience.  Kind of like mac and cheese; it's a strong comfort food.  I love me some mac and cheese, but I don't want to eat it all the time. I also don't want to listen to somebody tell me shit I already know, or confirm my bias for me all the time.   All this red above has an audience: people who simply want to be fed mac and cheese over and over until they die.

Sometimes I question if they even care about that. They seem eager to sacrifice their political careers in order to please their donors.

i just watched some BS Peirs Morgan roundtable thing and token lib starting on about how Trump is mentally unwell, slower than he was before, etc. Just unbelievably stupid tactic. Plays right into their hands. Even before that they got the host to agree the Jan 6th pardons were a mistake and she still rolled out this lame tactic.

The Ds need to be hyper focused as the party that obeys the rule of law. Of all the BS they could comment on, I think that needs to be 100% front and center. And stop falling for the noise and participating in their game.

OMB director, Vought, could pick and choose what gets funded in a shutdown. His declaration of what was non essential would not be subject to judicial review in a shut down. How is that anywhere close to helpful to those most likely to be targeted by the guy who said he was wanted to see federal workers “traumatized.”
