OMB director, Vought, could pick and choose what gets funded in a shutdown. His declaration of what was non essential would not be subject to judicial review in a shut down. How is that anywhere close to helpful to those most likely to be targeted by the guy who said he was wanted to see federal workers “traumatized.”

The real issue isn’t this. It’s that the dems would have to go out there and advocate for a clean CR…. Which they dont have the confidence in being able to out message Trump on.

And they’re likely right that he’ll blame them and his army of idiots will likely agree with him.

I don’t agree with this. I think if the Dems had spine they’d let him sink the ship. Now. You have to fight fire with fire. Waiting on for the big beautiful bill is a mistake IMO.
Sink the economy now when his tariffs are already killing it. Then he gets the stink. The republicans will pass their tax bill. And Dems will be flat footed telling regular folks their $100 rebates aren’t that good. People will want more but thank Trump for the tax cuts bc it’s $ to help the increasing costs they keep seeing.

Poor Chuck has to postpone his book tour because of angry democrats predicted to show up. We’re being couped and this motherfucker is planning a book tour??

I am of the minority here on this I know. The Dems need to sit on their hands and let this motherfucker burn. Only way to get some real change is to show the world who they are and that ain't happening unless it burns.

Watching this country decline is what I imagine it's like to see any addict circling the drain before they hit rock bottom. Alienating friends and replacing them with new ones that are only feeding the habit, and the only hope of salvation is losing everything.

Cross-posting because it's relevant to the discussion:

Listening to the PSA guys talk about how Schumer was damned if he did and damned if he didn’t with the shut down really drove home how fucked we might be.

Basically, if he doesn’t give in, dotard gets to shut it down and maybe not reopen it for months, while him and Elon run roughshod over everything because in a shutdown the Executive basically runs it all.  And if the Dems then came to the table to reopen, there’s no reason Rs would play ball. Because they just don’t care.

If he gives in, as he did, it shows Rs and dotard that Dems don’t have the spine to stand up to them and save them from their own stupidity. So they have zero power in any capacity and the Rs will keep doing whatever they want with little to no consequence.  We are living in a dictatorship of sorts already. This sucks.

At this point, is there anyone left who isn't aware of who they are?

You have to remember that a very large portion of America, and honestly most countries, pays little attention to anything political until the effect of multiple horrendous choices and decisions change how they live. The key to making sure things like this do not transpire is the teaching of more government and civics classes in school and people educating others about history. Look at Germany for instance. The kids there still have to put together school projects on nazi Germany and why what happened was horrific. Not everyone there thinks that obviously with those far right neo-nazis, but the point is that you teach and educate your population. Right now, education is at the bottom of the list for things our orange god king cares about.

Yep.  I imagine that a very large percentage of the German people didn't realize that the path they had chosen/allowed was utter shit until they looked up and saw this, day in and day out:

The problem is, by then.....you're fucking FUCKED.  You really don't have the option of saying "wait, wait!  We didn't choose THIS!  We don't support him like THAT!"  Nope.  You just get this, over, and over, and over:

And you know what?  You had it coming.

Yes. People are very stupid.

i think the issue is that lots of people do know who they are and what they are doing... and they like it. this is what they wanted. fucking shitty ass humans on this very board are still gloating and snickering. in just the last 24 hours a certain universally reviled POS poster is offering praise in the Elon thread lol

but...they also think they are immune. they literally do not care about the terror and trauma being inflicted on others

but...they will. eventually. because nobody on this board actually qualifies as an oligarch, lmao. it just hasn't touched them yet bc like anything, the poorest and most vulnerable are the first to get hurt. truthfully, it hasn't directly reached most of us yet. those of us that have empathy and can critically think know what direction we are clearly and directly headed.

so i think to @Thatguy's point... it's not that they need to 'see' it, it's that they need to feel it. and that won't happen until, as he says, the whole thing burns.

these folks all went down together...

Nope, citizens that don't line up with your politics don't want people to suffer.  You're just being obtuse.  They're tired of the can being kicked down the road, again, and hoping that something can be done to lessen the blow when the bill is due.  You seem to be rather easily swayed by the MSM talking points, yourself, I think. MSNBC/FOX NEWS, they're on opposite ends of the same rope, meant to stir up frenzies.  A majority of the population doesn't give a flying fuck about what they talk about and browbeat.  That's the part of the population you're painting with a firehose, not just a broad brush.

i haven't watched anything beyond local news and Steve Kornacki on election nights since 2020. well, i watched about two hours the day somebody tried to put a bullet in Trump’s brain but even that barely registered interest.

there is no need for opinionated news filters when the actual film, published statements, and seeing the words direct from the horse's ass mouth is horrifying enough.

i will grant that a portion of those that voted for Trump do not fall into the 'just hurt people i don't like' camp. and a lot of those people are also shell-shocked by how fast and thoroughly the destruction is happening. but being naive and/or uninformed is no excuse, they still bear responsibility. but hardcore maga? the OG cult members? detestable assholes right here on this community? they're real happy about the trauma and terror. we've all seen it. just visit reddit, or some real life maga enclaves, or hell, some of the actual elected politicians who are on camera and online saying 'better get used to it!' and 'oh yeah there's more coming!' and folks like John Cornyn actually mocking his constituents. the admin is doing things to cause suffering and has basically gone on record with 'sorry, you're gonna have to suffer'. the co-president has literally said 'empathy is bad'.

so, you know, gtfo here with 'they don't want people to suffer'.

Quote

They’ve done it again. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has taken in another $1.3 million from lobbyists at Invariant—the bipartisan firm representing Trump-friendly companies SpaceX and Palantir—according to a new FEC filing. Hot on the heels of the $2.5 million it took from the same group of lobbyists in January, this latest haul shows House Democrats’ campaign arm is more than comfortable cozying up to the very corporations thriving under the administration they say they are fighting.

Invariant, the highest-paid lobbying firm for both Elon Musk’s SpaceX and the Peter Thiel co-founded Palantir, has now bundled nearly $4 million to the DCCC since the beginning of the year.

And it’s not just House-side Democrats raising money from the firm. According to a post on LinkedIn, Invariant hosted a fundraiser for the Senate Democratic leaders last month as well, where its cadre of lobbyists likely helped to bundle big bucks for leadership members like Chuck Schumer or potentially the Kirsten Gillibrand-led Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).

repeated from elsewhere... it has never, not once, been about the debt/deficit. ever. those numbers are absolutely meaningless.

I think some people really believe them, and that just blows my mind. They've never given a shit about the deficit or the debt. Ever.

That game was given away a looong time ago. It's a wonder we've continued to play make-believe that the GOP actually gives a shit when in power all these years later, but here we are still playing it because the lie works.

So how much did the new budget cut the deficit?

How much less YOY did the federal govt spend last month?

you’re a moron

I would say 90% of them believe. Old school republicans and magats alike. Not that magats even know the difference anyway.

That he was even considering a book tour right now is all we need to know...did he settle on the CR to not have a prolonged CR fight that might disrupt his planned book tour?

Education (among other things) hasn't been important to the leadership in this country in my lifetime. We are right where we should be based on the foundation.
