the trump election lawsuit thread of dominance

My hope, and I think this has so far been a theme to their plotting, is that the Republicans want to do enough to satiate the huge chunk of idiots that follow Trump without actually overturning the valid results.
they are treating this like any political issue, having discussions on which reps and senators are safe and which need cover, how many can go in one direction for that cover without jeopardizing their seat, etc. it’s a game to get right up to the edge without going over. “We tried our best, we did all we could.  Please keep voting for us.”
dangerous, dangerous game, and the stakes are the surviva of our country.

I’m frequently reminded of a scene in Yellowstone where the sexy Governor tells Jamie that campaigning is not the same as governing. In a campaign, getting elected is all that matters.

Trump isn’t gonna be the Perot in 24, it’ll be an actual Republican who runs as an Independent after Trump waltzes to another GOP nomination.  Only way that doesn’t happen is if Trump is dead or in jail (maybe).

I disagree only because Washington hates outsiders and they’re gonna circle the wagons once Trump is out of office. They don’t want this again.

I do think it’s entirely possible he won’t live that long.

Its not.   It's so they have a reason to block any and everything.   It is gonna be like 4 years of Merrick Garland

They are going too far with the brinksmanship.  How do they tell him “no”, now? What happens when he says “I am doing my inauguration on January 20 regardless.” How do you pivot to accepting an election once you go on record in the House and Senate as saying it is “stolen” or “fraudulent.”

”We support the right for him to take concerns to the court.”

”The courts didn’t give him a fair shake, so now we will object in the legislature.”

“The corrupt Dems subverted the lawful legislative process, but it’s clear who won the election. Now we must stand for freedom and against socialism and with the true elected President, Donald J. Trump.”

I think Trump should be shot by firing squad after a fair trial and all, BUT I've been thinking:

306 EC votes for Biden

-16 Georgia EC votes

290 EC votes for Biden

That's 20 more than he needs to win.  Nothing changes, right?  What's the angle?

He's gotta be hammering them all, and Raffensperger was the first to say "fuck it." Trump is probably hammering states he won, demanding they produce more Electoral votes.

Sounds like the traitors decided their plan is only to challenge 3 states:

Cruz will challenge Arizona

Hawley will challenge Pennsylvania

Loeffler will challenge Georgia

Cruz said he will not challenge any other states.  Ron Johnson will probably challenge Wisconsin.

Hmmmmm, so Trump & Co. continue to berate the Georgia election officials about an election that occurred 9 weeks ago even though there are two "tremendous" elections being held today.  Gee, I can't help but wonder if the two challengers were to win, or even just one of them...that Trump would attempt to cast doubt on them by saying that the SoS/Governor/et. al. can't possibly secure a fair and free election because they are still so wildly focused on me, our illegally released phone calls, the Congressional certification tomorrow, etc.

His moves are so obviously desperate.  Almost makes you feel like he's dying.

Neither of them have the game their dad has. Trump is a phenom. His kids trying to do his act would come off really hollow.

You're coming at it from the perspective of someone who saw through Donald's act.  Now consider how astute the average Trump voter really is.

Which one of these fine patriots and guardian of secure elections is going to challenge North Carolina?  You know, the state that was about as close as PA?

All of this is predictable, which means Trump won't do it. I think he chooses a new path-- as the anti-Carter. He travels the world on his own, visiting the distressed and needy, and does all he can to make things worse.

They dont have the chops at this point (believing the lies and bulldozing past people). With that being said, Ivanka could be a phenom because of her name and looks. Jared is a liability because he’s done more than tax fraud. Jr and crazy lady could be a power couple, but I’m not sure they have the stamina.

All of them, even Eric, could cherrypick a congressional district and gravy train.

While they seem to be all destined for jailtime, that actually might help their rep. Because the GOP believes all politicians are on the grift and the other side is worse.

There's more than a few Republican Senators up in '22, who have publicly declined to support Cruz's efforts, which goes back to A) how much do they hate Cruz and B) they are actually rational.  Those Senators up in '22 are going to face Trump's twitter rage and probably more than a few primary challengers, yet they still publicly declared they won't sign on to Cruz's train wreck.

Plus, Cornyn released a statement today saying he'll support the certification.

And Cruz and Co. are helping to drive up voter turnout in Georgia.  Cruz is going to fuck around and find out with Mitch if he costs Mitch the majority.

This pisses me off more than just about anything. The Texas joke of a lawsuit wasn't that long ago. You pretended that there was validity to the Kraken allegations then. What changed? The evidence proving it all laughable has been there for months if you were willing to take 3 seconds to look. But now you've seen the light? Why not go all in you worthless sack of shit? Or, better yet, admit that you participated in a political stunt knowing full well that the case was bogus. It's way too late to fence sit.

If it's so easy to just "find" 12,000 votes in Georgia...shouldn't Trump share that secret with Senator Perdue and then he doesn't even need to bother with today's election?  Didn't Perdue only fail to meet the plurality of 50%+1 by a similar number of votes?

I am getting more and more pessimistic. I think it’s clear that whatever he believed after Election Day, Trump has walked too far out on this ledge.  I really expect we are going to have two people claiming to be POTUS on January 20 and a not-insignificant subset of legislators lining up behind Trump.  I don’t think it’s only grift at this point.

Where's that feel-good article written by a female journalist after Biden was named President-elect, congratulating us all for walking out to the edge but not jumping? Because not an insignificant amount of us are currently diving head fucking first. Somehow, this is all her fault.

If those legislators want to fuck around and find out, at least in the Senate, Mitch may have something to say about that. Especially if they cost him the majority with Georgia.

Like buzzrock said, the power brokers will circle the wagons and make sure this don't happen again.  This is stirring up a lot of shit and putting Republicans through purity tests they don't want to go through.  It was all fun and games when Trump was winning, but now he's lost and he's trying to burn down the GOP and threatening to primary Republicans who won't blow him.  George H. W. never did this, neither did Ford.

Cornyn didn't come out with his statement today for shits and giggles.  Neither did Tim Scott and other Republican Senators over the past 48 hours.  In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Mitch is having Cornyn, Scott, and the others put these statements out to send a message to Cruz and Co.

I don't think very many rejected the idea that Trump is a wannabe autocrat.  The disagreement has been over whether or not he might succeed.  I'm still highly skeptical, but there is nothing good to make of the amount of support he has received.  It puts a floor on the # Americans who must be overcome in each and every election, and it's not a small number.  It's depressing as hell.

Okay, simple math says Trump wants ~12,000 votes.  Perdue was just ~14,000 votes from walking off with a 50%+1 victory.  I mean, if you're gonna ask for the exact amount you need to win, why not "uncover" a couple grand more votes in a state of millions?  You do that, you coulda made a deal with McConnell.  He keeps his majority and he helps you take the EC.  But nope, your dumbass was shown a number about how many votes you needed to win Georgia, and you idiotically asked for that exact amount to a public official on a recorded line.  Everyday, I think it's impossible you're this stupid.  I mean, you are stupid.  But so many other traits of yours overshadow your slightly-below average intelligence.

I dunno. Vermont could examine Alabama's doings, New Hampshire could dig around a little in Texas' business, etc. If time is not an issue it could turn out highly entertaining.

Everybody'd look at Louisiana, just say "Fuck it. Whatever."

Bc she’s appointed to a seat that’s not up until 2022, she’s still a senator. The term hasn’t expired.

Why is she in today’s runoff?

To finish out the term through 2022.  Georgia law says you have to have a special election to fill the rest of the term.  Unlike Perdue, whose term expired on January 3, 2021, as no one was elected and certified as the winner of the race (bc of the run-off).

She's still the placeholder until the results are certified - either she has been elected to finish the term or she has lost and Warnock has been elected to finish the term.

so the bottom line is she's contesting the election that she was actually in. That is on brand for the Trump Republicans
