Bijan Robinson is special

Bijan may be the only professional jersey I'll ever get. I'm pondering getting one this year. He's too special and he's an amazing Longhorn and super freak.

He’s such a “special person” on/off the field, there’s no way ANYONE can root against that young man. I don’t care if he plays for your hated rival! Such a unique guy he is.

Yep. Even as a Tampa fan, I love me some Bijan. He's like a literal angel sent from above. The young man does everything the right way. He's a pillar of the community, he's well spoken, he's highly intelligent, and most of all he genuinely cares about not just his fans, but his entire Longhorn, teammates, and immediate family members. Everyone should aspire to be him.

Atlanta just can't get out of their own way.

They'll play good enough to be right there at the end but will inevitably fuck up and go down. They had that game in hand on that last drive and got predictable. Couldn't tell if the Chiefs run blitzed that 4th and 1 but Bijan got hit as soon as he touched the ball.

He is clearly banged up. No explosion or violent lateral cuts. Rest him if not 100%

He's not 100%, but his O-line is mid and his OC is addicted to screens and predictable play calling.  The RBs didn't even have 20 carries between them tonight.  Kirk had 500 yards passing because he dropped back to throw like 60 times.

I was so confused by the Bijan misuse, even with a new coach/coordinator, that I did a quick dive n the internet to see what some other people’s opinions were… Reddit is a 50/50 of “backup is better/Bijan clearly better but being misused”, and I even found one ATL writer (blogger, I guess?) saying he needs to be benched and he’s one of the 4 main reasons they’re losing games.

Morons, all of em.

Yeah, the problem is this is a new QB who is trying to work back into form, an O-line dealing with injuries and playing worse than last year, plus a new OC who clearly is still trying to get his shit together.

Having watched all the games, Bijan is just getting the same predictable runs almost every time.  Always outside zone or a stretch play.  Defenses have this figured out and they stack the box.  Bijan is having to dodge dudes in the backfield and turn negative yardage into 1-4 yards.  Allgeier has looked good for stretches because defenses treat him different and the OC is running him between the tackles and giving him cutbacks, etc.  Even so, Allgeier sucked tonight.  But really, it's a problem with the offense just not being established yet.  Week 1 they ran almost exclusively out of the Pistol and looked like shit.  So they scrapped basically all of that.  Sunday they couldn't score an offensive TD.  Tonight Kirk drops back 60 times and throws for 500+ yards while the RBs hardly touch the ball.  They just don't have an identity yet.  Throw in offensive line injuries and a TON of penalties.  Also, Kirk, while he was dealing tonight, has kinda looked like shit.  He's clearly not comfortable yet on his new Achilles.  Prior to his explosion tonight his stats were actually worse than Ridder's.  He's staring guys down, throwing into double coverage, and he's consistently not even looking for Bijan on check downs.

Hopefully as the season goes on they get shit figured out.  It ain't on Bijan, though.  Dude is running hard.  He's catching everything thrown his way.  And his pass blocking is fucking phenomenal.  Last year his pass pro was actually ass.  He looked awful.  This year?  Dude is decleating guys and blocking like a boss.  His only bad play there tonight was when 400 pound Vita Vea came through unblocked and he decided he'd rather live and just threw a shoulder at him.

Through 5 games, Bijan is averaging 13.7 carries and 3.8 targets per game.

ATL bucked the (new) conventional wisdom that you don’t pick a RB in the top 10 because they presumably thought Bijan was that special (many agreed). And then they use him somewhat sparingly. I know it’s a different coaching staff and all, but it seems like a dumb approach.

I watched the 2nd half and was amazed by the lack of use, specifically in the 4th quarter and OT.

I can't imagine having a RB like that and using him as blitz pick up.

This native Texan has been in the Atlanta area for 40 years now and has seen some curious things out of the city's pro sports franchises, but none more than the Falcons. No matter how much talent they've had at various times, they've done remarkably little with it. So I'm hardly shocked that they haven't figured out how to use Bijan.

When the Falcons drafted him, I posted that I wasn't sure he'd ever have a 40-yard TD run but that I expected him to log multiple TD receptions of 50 or better. I still think that's what would happen with the right scheme and game planning. Get him in space and he's a totally different guy than the one now having to struggle to find creases inside. Not that he can't run "between the tackles," but that's hardly the best use of his considerable gifts. Well-designed screens and wheel routes are made for him.

With 125 yards on 22 carries in the MNF game against the Raiders, Bijan goes over the 1,000 yard mark for the season.  Currently 4th in yards from scrimmage in the NFL, #2 rated RB by PFF, might just be the best pass blocker on the Falcons right now, too.  Doing it all on a mediocre team who has had the most predictable offense in the NFL by the numbers because of Cousins' limitations.  Kid has been stellar this year.

Here's a vid of him celebrating with his O-linemen.  And of course the first thing he does is to credit the group effort.

Watching to that miced up video just makes me love this kid even more. Humble, selfless, quick to deflect glory, his teammates clearly love him. First on the field. Pass blocks like a champ.

Also holy shit the way those hits sound.

The hits sound a little worse through the microphone just due to the thumping and banging, but it is no wonder why these guys have such short careers sometimes.
