It's weird what's happening with a lot of Fox viewers.  Fox seems to have poisoned their own audience, to some extent.  Specifically, the prime-time lineup of Carlson, Ingraham, and Hannity have so thoroughly saturated the viewers with misinformation, those viewers don't believe it when the "news" arm of the organization correctly identifies Biden as the winner of the electoral college.

I personally know several people who have sworn off Fox for Newsmax, and are also leaving facebook for parler.  They have decided what their "truth" is, and they're just going to shop around for a news source and social circle that will confirm it.

I'm not sure how big this exodus is, or if it will stick.

They are bonked in the head.

There’s gonna be some really happy families out there this Thanksgiving.

My theory is that it won’t last. Trumpkins (especially the ones in office) THRIVE on getting their tweets/posts/etc publicized by “main stream media”. Witness the conniption fit Trump had when media wouldn’t pick up the Hunter Biden bullshit.

The echo chamber will consume its own oxygen, and then what? They will come back to Twitter, Facebook, etc because they want to be noticed, and proselytize to the “non-believers”.

One thing is clear: The morphing into a cult is definitely accelerating.

aggy idiocy is bleeding into this thread.  yeah, it gets everywhere, but got damn, you are so insular, so narrow minded, that the threat of having different ideas at the Thanksgiving table...

Never fucking mind...  That mindset far, far preexists parler or MeWe or whatever the fuck these clowns are fleeing to.

I have really missed being able to make it up to Oklahoma to visit family for Thanksgiving. I'm actually relieved to not be going this year. It would be unbearable once they found out I had betrayed the country by voting for Biden.

That's been happening for years and is hardly exclusive to hard core right wingers.

My guess is that most of these parler users will always come back to facebook to post what they've just learned on parler. They will want to share it with their friends, while wondering why those friends are not joining parler themselves to learn this info. But that's ok, they will share.

Your take seems accurate. After spending a number of years lurking around on various message boards, while the bubble has intensified, the element of "owning" or whatever the state of being is termed is very strong. Ego reinforcement? I don't know. But the regulars on sites (and I've done this myself here) seek out examples of 'other' and hold them up as "we're not like that." I suppose that is to drive home norms and culture, (been a long time for me since school) but they have to temporarily leave the bubble in order to do that. What some of the aggregate agencies do, though, is reduce that experience because the 'other' examples are laid out right there: "see these globalist/socialist/ fraudulent libs. How awful they are. How crazy/stupid/violent/thuggish/take away your guns/different looking they are."

I've stated  before, some of those sights are  like a teen boys locker room run amok with a bully and his cohorts and celebrated as the way the world should be and then the perps are outraged when the principal comes in and punishes them instead of looking the other way. Shame the bullies and help the bullied.

That TexAgs stuff makes me sad. My sister had already blocked basically the entire family, including her own kids, from basically all her social media and doesn't come to family gatherings (that my left-wing self almost always hosts and pays for) so any updates I get are backchannel. I call her every couple of weeks and she just doesn't seem to have much of a life outside of hating her husband and hating liberals and most minorities.

Ugh, that is hard. Really hard. Whatever it is that our brains do, this seems to have distilled our fear and loathing response down to 'spice' and some folks can't seem to live without it.

(not my cup of tea, but my spouse likes to read science fiction/some fantasy) and he liked Dune. Since I've not read it, I'm probably misinterpreting the true intent of Hebert, but in the simplest of definitions, perhaps not.

When I look on FB, I only see one "friend" pushing parler. I know it's only a sample size of 1 but knowing this person, it makes me think even less of parler. This is a friend's wife who allows her friends to make barely guarded, anti-semetic comments to her posts. However I don't think she's smart enough to realize what her friends are implying. My friend, her husband, is jewish but she never makes the connection of the intent behind a Soros=evil or financial world domination comments.

This.  They like the affirmation and conflict.

Also, they can't leave Facebook.  Their kids sports teams and churches are all on there.  You may hate WMT but you still go there.

Yeah, sounds more like a gift than a threat.

And how much does Thanksgiving cost anyway?  I didn’t grow up well off and I don’t remember my family ever worried about the cost.  Bragging about paying?  Even if you host everyone brings things.  These people are just too weird.

Yeah if you’re not coming to our thanksgiving that’s your loss, pal.  If you’re a trumper and you’re coming be prepared to get hazed.

I wouldn't troll them and I'd tell my children to stay away from them.

I can’t think of anything worse than spending Thanksgiving with an aggy/Fox News cult member. The double whammy.

My Facebook feed has emptied out some. Not nearly as much from my hardcore Trump supporters. They must have moved to Parler.

I would laugh at anyone threatening to not show up for a holiday meal. Ok, sorry you feel that way. Bye felicia.

Given that the 2 biggest topics at the moment are the election and COVID, its probably better if many families do not get together because of the snowflake trump fans. They would not be able to stay quiet about stolen elections and plandemics.  Also in my experience extended family Thanksgiving is usually some mix of small town and big city relatives. I don't think they approach these topics from the same perspective, which is fair to a small extent.

That’s half the fun of any dumbass throwing out political opinions at gatherings.  Calling out the extremists years ago makes it a lot calmer now.  Add in their fucked up kids and 5 divorces and it’s a layup drill.

Then again, I’m pretty sure I am the crazy uncle... but I do share my booze.

The side of the family that I do Thanksgiving with never talks politics, and, other than this week, I avoid political discourse like the plague. But two recent additions--my dad's wife in AZ who prays for the corrupted souls of liberals and the aforementioned Parler joinee FBI brother-in-law--are going to make this one a challenge.

Plus, my wife is a scientist with Pfizer, so I'm sure they'll be clumsily prodding her to she if she has any insight into the "suspicious" timing.

Might need to stock up on some Gritty shirts.

Yes we are almost 100% antiTrump but 50/50 R vs D.  It never comes up but if it does Trump backers would get it good.  Thing is - they’re the ones that always open their mouth first.  I’ll never get it.

One of my friends making the switch to parler also works for Pfizer (in sales, not science). I am seriously concerned about his state of well-being today.

I believe I can explain this phenomenon, and it's germane to this thread. Idiots who surround themselves in a back slapping echo chamber without diverse sources of data and input always think they know their shit and are shocked and completely fucking dumbfounded when they show up and get completely fucking pants'd by someone smarter and better informed. It's LITERALLY how the fucking concept of Fake News and Alternative Facts has flourished and grown into a fucking sickness that must be addressed. Morons getting dickslapped intellectually and not being about to handle it because they're pussies with fragile egos. It's cognitive dissonance and dunning kruger fucking like rabbits and popping out litters by the dozens ever hour or two. That's where the false confidence comes from, my man.

I don't necessarily want to invite the parler crowd here...I don't think that would mix very well.

How's about less worrying about how things would mix and just focus on the fact that you'd be inviting a group of people who happily embrace a culture of hate and ignorance? We could cut out the middle man and just invite Stormfront and The Base and every other white supremacist group here as well...but again, seems like a bad idea.

To his credit, he has been happy to do this...the problem is it comes in the form of painfully long YouTube videos featuring functional idiots spouting conspiracy theories and thinly or just unveiled racism with no facts, logic, or common sense. So no one is watching that shit. I need my idiocy distilled into succinct summaries, TTomTerrific rants, or screenshots because I'm not investing 20-80 minutes reinforcing what I already know, that those people are fucking dumb as fuck and are ruining this country.
