Yep. I feel a little bad for that K (who has no business being in that position in the first place, even in the USFL). Me & my kid were definitely rooting hard for him to miss though, because Jeff Fisher.

It really warms my heart when I hear about traditions being passed along to the next generation

Yep, like me, his innards are also warmed by a deep hatred of the Porn Stache.

Jeff Fisher is a worse professional football coach than Barry Switzer. Change my mind.

Fisher actively lowers his team's win probability with pussy decisions. He might be decent with a decidedly inferior roster because he coaches to lose by as little as possible. He doesn't coach to win. He is not a championship coach almost by definition. He's a loser.

Switzer was an incompetent boob as an NFL coach but he let his players play and got the hell out of the way.

Switzer came close to winning two Super Bowls. Yes his players wanted to win in spite of Jimmy being gone but still he should get some credit. Troy and some of the stalwarts won’t say this but a lot of the other players have said they liked playing for Barry because “he let them be men” and life under Jimmy was incredibly stressful. Jimmy has said he didn’t think he or the team could deal with two more seasons of it.

Fisher is not the worst coach in nfl history. Urban Meyer may own that, or Ray Rhodes, or Jim Tomsula, but all were short timers. Fisher is a greater form of bad: the longest tenure of shittiness ever. He defines the ability to make millions yet delivering a shitshow every year. Fuck Heff Fisher.

In my 56 years, there have only been a handful of guys who have brought out my rage so much that I just wanna knock them fuck out every time I see them. Jeff Fisher and Bobby Epstein immediately come to mind. Fuck those putos.

Field goal Fish strikes again. This guy was begging for a job coaching an FCS school in Tennessee, they didn't even consider hiring him. Of course some bush league team took a chance though, obviously it isn't panning out.

So, let me get this straight.

Jeff Fucking Fisher (JFF) has a kicker who is 1 for 5, including TWO missed extra points.

JFF has just watched his team drive from the 50 to the opponent's 3 yard line.

JFF has first and goal at the 3, twenty-nine seconds left and TWO time outs. And yet...

JFF doesn't even try for the touchdown. He just lets the clock run down and hands the game over to his 20% kicker.

JFC, JFF!

I thank the USFL for this much--it has allowed the perfect JFF game, his Platonic ideal as it were, to finally manifest in our reality. He belongs to the ages now.

Ray Rhodes is a strange choice to lump in with those guys. He was basically just a mediocrity.

My buddies who are Eagles fans believe Ray Rhodes to be the worst thing ever to hit Theo city.

Yeah, but they're Eagles fans.

There's not a lot of daylight between him, Rich Kotite, and Chip Kelly if we are just talking relatively recent Eagles coaches. And none of those is even statistically their worst coach in my lifetime - that would be Marion Campbell. In fact, he's a great contender for the shortlist of worst ever: he went 34-80-1 across 9 seasons (including 2 stints with Atlanta! How did he get hired again???). He has the worst winning percentage of any NFL coach with over 100 games.

best line ever by a sports writer came from Dan Cook of the San Antonio Express when Switzer got hired by Jerra....."Switzer coaching in the NFL? The NFL is a passing League. The only thing Switzer knows about passing is that his teams couldn't do it"

I would love for him to be named an interim coach for 1 game so he can set the record

I would love it for some dumbass old owner like the raiders or "commanders" or hell,  Jerry Jones think they are smarter than everyone and hire Jeff Fisher and he goes 0-17.  Then I would like urban Meyer to say on a public forum that Jeff Fisher is a shit NFL coach,.

I've written it before, probably in this thread, that the “Fisher is a great coach” narrative was driven by his quid pro quo relationship with select… fuck that… several NFL beat writers. If you’ll recall, Fisher was the rare active coach on the NFL Competition Committee that set the rules every year. Fisher would be the one who tipped off Mortensen (his biggest lap dog) and Peter King and Dr. Z and John Clayton and Ed Werder, etc. about what was happening on the inside, and they always made sure his name was mentioned when “top coaches” were discussed. He may have gotten a raise or three out of Bud because of it. Jerry Jones always bought into it (he was on the Committee with Fisher) so I think it’s a miracle JJ never hired this shitheel. As we all know, this career .500 coach has been talked about in the most reverent of terms, all because he was buddy-buddy with the writers. And they are allowing this bullshit about needing time with his family. He got fired.

Fuck Jeff Fisher.

If you'd be surprised to learn that the Arena Football League was still a thing, they probably just put the final nail in their own coffin

At least this makes me think he can't land a HC job at any level.

His only brush with success is the 1985 Super Bowl ring he got while spending the entire year on the Bears IR.  Not the last time he would bask in the achievements of others.

Fisher's teams had Steve McNair from 1995-2005.  When McNair started, the team was 76-55 (58%).  When McNair did not start: 20-25 (44%).
He had Vince Young from 2006-2010.  When Young started, the team record was 30-17 (64%).  When Young did not start: 15-18 (45%).

Not coincidentally, a 44%-45% win percentage yields....  7-9.

Fisher rose through the ranks because of his affiliation with and endorsement of Buddy Ryan.  In his position coach and coordinator roles, his groups produced.  Guys stick around for so long because of familiarity and hope.  And management's fear that the next guy might be worse.

That said, middling coaches could have gotten similar results with the personnel he had.  Here's a random selection of some of the players he had on his winningest teams:
1999 (13-3) - McNair, Jevon Kearse (1st round pick),Matthews, Wycheck, George, Rolle, Bishop, Mason
2000 (13-3) - Everyone above, add Keith Bulluck (1st rd pick).
2002 (11-5) - Similar to 2000, add Kevin Carter in 2001, Albert Haynesworth (1st rd pick)
2003 (12-4) - similar to 2002. (note the DL, like in 2002, contained Kearse, Carter, and Haynesworth)
2007 (10-6) - Young, Vandenbosch, Haynesworth, Mawae, Bulluck, Mike Griffin (1st rd pick)
2008 (13-3) - Chris Johnson (1st rd pick), Young, Kerry Collins, Griffin, Mawae, Haynesworth, etc.

2008 was the year Young got hurt and Fisher decided to stick with Collins.  They finished 13-3, which helped Fisher convince himself that he was the reason (not the players).  Note that the above 15-18 "When Young did not start" includes the magical 12-3 from Kerry Collins.

I typed all of that to say, "F Jeff Fisher."

Well shit. I thought the thread was bumped because he died.

Satan doesn’t want his annoying shit brain self around. Killing McNair literally and then VY’s career earns him his spot in eternal hell. I’d like to see him at USC in some admin post. He’d wreck all their programs in a heartbeat.

That’s a long way of saying that Jeff Fisher sucked, Jeff Fisher sucks, and Jeff Fisher will suck as long as he draws oxygen.

Fuck that middling motherfucker six way to Sunday.
