I think they just plan on cutting $10k checks and kicking the can down the road.

Wouldn't they just wipe $10k from the system versus sending a check?

Honestly, it's an important issue, but I think it's not an absolute right this moment thing for Biden - he can afford to wait until the end of the moratorium on payments/interest (September).  He's already asked the DOJ to start looking into his authority on what he can do.

Goddam if the conservitards weren't right.  Biden gets into office and immediately starts imposing the evils of socialism on the American people!

The Biden administration has sent 60 generators, thousands of blankets and other supplies to Texas to help address mass power outages amid a rare bout of extreme winter weather.

Homeland security adviser and deputy national security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall told reporters Thursday afternoon that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has supplied 60 generators to support critical sites like hospitals and water facilities, 729,000 liters of water, more than 10,000 wool blankets, 50,000 cotton blankets and 225,000 meals.

Officials are also preparing for the possibility of further requests by Texas and getting ready to supply diesel fuel to power facilities, she said.

President Biden, who spoke with governors of states affected by the winter storm earlier this week, also approved disaster declarations for Oklahoma and Louisiana on Thursday.

“Jill and I are keeping Texas, Oklahoma, and other impacted states in our prayers. I’ve declared states of emergency, authorized FEMA to provide generators and supplies, and am ready to fulfill additional requests,” Biden tweeted. “Please heed the instructions of local officials and stay safe.”

Europe.  Biden extends olive branch, but Trump's damage has been done:

Quote

European officials know the tough conversations can’t be avoided for long. Biden “said all the right things” to reassure Europe after “the unpredictable cacophony of Trump,” said Stubb.

“But the realistic picture is that the world is radically different from 2016 when Trump entered the scene," he added. "This is the message Blinken should deliver” when he meets with the EU’s 27 foreign ministers and the bloc’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrell.

Europe isn't afraid to go its own way

Shocked by Britain’s vote to leave, and wedged between an aggressive Russia, a rising China and a disinterested America under Trump, the EU set a course for “strategic autonomy” in recent years. In that time, China also overtook the U.S. as the EU's biggest trading partner.

The EU’s repositioning is only now bearing fruit, but that's not to say it's superficial either: There's a determined independent approach to China and Russia relations, a beefed-up industrial policy, tough digital regulations and taxes, and only a tentative commitment to EU joint defense and increased national defense spending.

While the Biden administration sees the EU as an essential pillar of stability in global affairs, it recoils at many of these decisions.

Europeans also worry that in four years, a new Republican administration may junk Biden’s defense and climate commitments, leaving them stranded with long-term investments and no American backup. “Who’s to say we won’t end up right where we were four years from now?” one senior German defense official asked.

The quotes in here are funny. They sound like a parody of Joe Biden.

"For example, if it went -- if we gradually increased it -- when we indexed it at $7.20, if we kept it indexed by -- to inflation, people would be making 20 bucks an hour right now. That's what it would be."

Nope. They're right. Trump made us welchers.  Our word is worth shit now.  Not just with Europe. With Iran too. They're making nukes because we welched. China is more aggressive in Asia because we abandoned our allies there too.

And W ain't gonna be the next R president to walk through the door. It will be someone like Gaetz.  Our continuity is completely toast. Even if we manage 3 or 4 D terms in a row (which won't happen), we won't be trusted again until we have another R President that honors our established agreements.  And I dont see any possible R candidates that will do that. No Rs are American. They believe every administration is an entirely different country.

There are some wondering whether we should be allowed to remain a dominant military power. Lose that - and it's game over. That would be a global black swan. A reversal of polarity.

Glad steady hands are at the helm. I wonder how our State Department answers difficult questions from allies?  To be a fly on those walls . . . would be fascinating.

Texas is hurt and needs help. It will be expensive and it is the correct course of action. Kudos Biden. This is when he becomes President for some.

TLDR: Biden is putting out fires. That's progress. And stabilizing.

We are one more Trump type term away from not only losing the trust of our allies, but also having them worry about us being openly adversarial. So they will also start coming up with containment plans for us. And that could result in a shaky alliance between the EU and China, as well as increased militarization in both.  And make no mistake, if we end up getting into it with the EU, we are going to be the bad guys. China will help the EU just to speed up the power shift.

Hate to say it but there aren’t any answers that out state dep can tell them that they will believe it.

From our allies POV they see the current GOPs in power and how they behave, they just can’t trust us. The Dems didn’t win shit in 2 congress and 22 will be bloodbath against the Ds

only way to fix this is if Dems continue to stay in power in the 2 branches but that won’t happen

we need to get on the offensive against Russia and China within their gov etc

Agree. The chess pieces are in motion. Trust in the United States took a big hit. I hope we are stabilizing our foreign policy, but it will take some time to rebuild the trust. Uncertainty breeds instability here and around the world. Diplomacy is fragile.

This is the problem with governing by executive order. Your allies can’t trust you. If the Dems want to cement some of these policies they need to do the hard work and get them through Congress while they have control.

Paying off porn stars, nepotism, emoluments, Manafort, Flynn, Stone, collusion, ignoring intelligence, asking a foreign power to get dirt on a political rival, outright lying about/mishandling a pandemic, tear gassing peaceful protestors for a photo op, inciting an insurrection, lying daily, none of this matters. But that fucking Joe Biden has a 12 year old dog that looks a little scraggly? What a disgrace!

just caught the end of Biden's remarks a minute ago...but from what i heard, it sounded like for the next round of PPP loans, for the first two weeks only businesses with <20 employees can apply.

that seems...significant. and really good. and completely different from how the previous admin managed it.

Yes, I read this morning.  Businesses with less than 20 employees have a dedicated window to apply.  They are also allowing individuals with non-fraud related felonies to apply, along with those who may be behind on federal student loan payments and noncitizen legal residents can apply with their ITIN if they don't have a SSN.

Plus $1 billion is being carved out for sole proprietorships.

One of my #bothsides issues is that neither party gives a shit about small to medium businesses. This is a strong offering by Diamond Joe. Good job.

The very many community bankers I know love this. Even some very Trumpy small business owners are excited about having a shot at the stimmy.
