how’s Mullen smell now?

Need to recruit an O line and defense, finally got rid of TG so hopefully the second part happens.

How's Ed Ogres replacement search coming along?

Yea, Dan is in full fuck this, gimme my $12 million so I can go coach at Bama mode.  Can’t wait to see what idiot Stricklin goes out and replaces him with.

At least there's the blind hope that Florida somehow gets the hire right this time.

Would gladly take that over waiting 1-2 more years because you *must* give the HC time to get his own players even though he lost to Kansas at home.

Missouri topped Florida 24-23 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, putting the Gators on the brink of bowl ineligibility on top of what has been an alarmingly dismal midseason effort. Just two months ago, Florida came within two points of beating Alabama and looked like a challenger out of the SEC East. Now, the question might be whether coach Dan Mullen survives the season.

To add insult to injury, Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz pulled off an epic troll of Mullen in the press conference following the game. Drinkwitz, entering his second season with the Tigers, pulled the hood over his head and a light saber out of his pocket on his way out of the room.

For the uninitiated, Drinkwitz's jab is in reference to Mullen, who donned a Darth Vader helmet after his team's 41-17 win over the Tigers in Gainesville last year. That game included a halftime fracas that got out of hand as the two teams went into the locker room and needed to be separated.

The loss drops Florida to 5-6 overall and 2-6 in conference play -- the program's worst conference winning percentage since 1979 -- despite winning the SEC East a year ago. Mullen is squarely on the hot seat as a result of this season's struggles and Drinkwitz twisted the knife deeper with his press conference troll.

This is the kind of pettiness that makes college football great.

Drinkwitz is the dorkiest mother fucker in coaching.

We live in a world where LSU, Florida, Texas, USC, and Nebraska all suck.

No good coaches outside of a few options. Everyone else is a roll of a dice.

I mean hell, some people thought we should hire Mullen last cycle. That tells you how shitty the coaching market is.

Yeah, it's a great market for the coaches because there's no upper tier.

LSU, Florida, and USC all have to compete for the same shitty coaches which means you still have to overpay to get the best out of that group of shitty coaches.

Yeah I personally wouldn’t fire Mullen.

We will only finish ahead of vandy in the final SEC standings. Let that sink in.

Or you could take a chance and give someone new a shot. Eventually these dipstick coaches are going to price themselves out of a job and schools won’t have any other choice.

yeah, but who falls into that category?

I guess you can hire a random for cheap but it's a total crap shoot. I am starting to think the best strategy is to hire a HC for cheap and then just money whip assistants/coordinators. If the head coaches are shit spend the money elsewhere.

The bigger problem IMO is having to elevate good position coaches to HC for them to make a better salary. Not everyone is cut out to be an executive, some guys are just really good at a specific area and should be able to be highly compensated for it without having to take on stuff he’s not good at. Mullen is a good OC and QB coach. He’s not a good head coach.

The same shit happened in the military. They used to have specialist ranks that paralleled the NCO ranks so a good technical guy could have a long military career and advance their pay. They cut them off at spec-4 and forced anyone wanting to advance in the military into the NCO ranks, and it sucks. Some guys aren’t cut out to be leaders, they just want to fix radios.

Saban is a unicorn, and that’s why so many teams are in this hire and fire cycle.  Instead of chasing that formula, someone needs to pay an HC less and pay a couple of really good coordinators more to equal that output.

I don’t keep up with the gators but why the fire Dan Mullen takes? Yes he sucks this season but hasn’t he been okay the previous season? I was looking at his record and he’s won 10, 11, and 8 games. I guess I didn’t expect him on the hot seat after this season.

I also haven’t seen a gators game this year. I know they almost lost to a fcs team but I kinda stay away from shitting on other teams when I see my shitty team play every Saturday.

He’s 2-9 in his last 11 P5 games. Florida is sitting at 23 in recruiting. This is year 4, all his players, and it’s a full fledged shit show without any visible paths to improve. His recruiting has been subpar and he chose to ride or die with the Grantham decision last year. Hubris is a bitch.

Todd loyalty killed him. We lost a shit ton of games scoring enough points, only to morph into a three and out shitshow that put the shaky D into a bad place.

A better group of athletes making a few plays would have won some tight games. But he is so goofy/weird (and arrogant) that we can’t land the guys we need.

Fuck him.

They massively underachieved last year, have been a disaster this year. No improvement in sight. He gone now anyway.

I assume Cristobal is the leading candidate? I probably wouldn’t want that if I was a Florida fan.

Not sure, but recruiting will be a primary concern, so he’s not a bad option.

Mullen, Mcelwain and Muschamp were meh to bad recruiters at a school like Florida.

I do wonder if Florida is similar to Texas in that they're an academic school that feels they don't need to go all in the bagman game. They're in an area where you can't survive unless you're willing to get dirty.

I think that’s a very big part of it.

Seriously? That is Charlie Pell country. They are as good as anyone at moving money to players.

They aren't anymore.

'22 class (#22)

'21 class (#12)

'20 class (#9)

'19 class (#9)

'18 class (#14)

'17 class (#11)

'16 class (#12)

'15 class (#21)

That's terrible for a school like Florida. If they were getting dirty like other schools in that area (Georgia and Alabama) they would be landing better recruiting classes than that shit above. There's no way they're buying players like they should be based on the recruiting rankings.

I'm not a Florida fan but I think it's obvious based on the recruiting rankings that Florida isn't playing the bagman game to the level of other SEC schools.

Florida should be landing top 10 classes every year with some top 5 classes thrown in there.

Your talking early 80’s, then we got body slammed by the NCAA. Probably been as close to the straight and narrow as possible in a very dirty league since.
