Marble Falls DQ has steak fingers and tacos. Plus they made the national news with their sign about the eclipse. Also, the Bowie DQ has the best breakfast in Montague County.

The DQ in Johnson City has been not great for the past few years, I blame the young staff being shitty. Things have changed over the past few months and now has done a 180. It’s back to my go to after hunting in Blanco County or after a visit to William Chris.

Now wait just a minute.

It’s inside Mexia. Outside Mexia would imply that Mexia had been big enough for two DQs, one in and one out. Yeah sure, they’d be rival hangouts for different groups and if you said “we’re going to dq”, well, your family for damn sure knew which one you meant. No, Mexia isn’t a two DQ kind of town. Can’t handle the glitz and glam that comes with that kind of city living.

They’ll have to settle for being a dual subway location metropolis instead. I’ll check with my sources to see if one subway is still in a standalone building less than half a mile from the super Walmart that houses the other subway.

The one on Stassney does a bang up job but the drive through is like navigating the fucking Death Star trench.

That intersection kind of bangs. Cherry Creek is awesome and now you have Moreno BBQ.

Ain't a damn thing wrong with Arandas. Leroy and Lewis just set up shop down the block.

It has banged for a long time, too. Used to be a funky little restaurant by what used to be Strange Brew with all kinds of cuisine

Hell yeah.  I usually get two orders and they slam hard.

Do they still let you add one for a dollar.

My go-to at the one on Stassney was steak finger basket with a sprite and yeah let's go ahead and throw a taco on there for a dollar.

A great example of the type of business, and type of businessperson, that can no longer co-exist in today's Austin. Sad, but I'm happy I got to experience it.

any converted DQ location, highly likely the new restaurant is going to slam

Our old DQ was converted into a donut shop that doubled as a sushi restaurant in the afternoon and evening. Granbury isn't highfalutin but even the locals avoid eating sushi out of an old DQ. It didn't make it.

We have one of the newer DQs with the rock front and modern look. It is a couple of blocks from a Braum's, and also sits between A Chicken Express and Golden Chick. With two places offering better chicken, and Braum's burgers and ice cream, I'm not sure how it stays in business. They must be some Blizzard selling' MoFos.

Now you've gotten me hankering to do a "small town row of chains" buffet.  Maybe some gizzards from Chicken Express, some ice cream from Braums.  Or maybe the spicy tenders from Golden Chick, and a dip cone from the DQ.  Why, the possible combinations are infinite, and all super healthy.

For sure, you can start at Golden Chick, bear crawl the 100 feet to DQ, followed by a 100 foot sprint to Chicken E, and end the amazing tour with a brisk 200 yard jog to Braum's. Oh, and if you need a break from your journey to Braum's, you can step into the Chili's for a refreshing margarita.

Know what I mean, Verne?

The one's here are better than DQ. That's why I wonder how our DQ stays in business, unless it is a money laundering front for drug cartels.

This may belong in the "DQ is living" thread, but they are opening one in Lakeway:

Dairy Queen

The fast food chain’s menu will feature burgers, tacos, and dessert options such as soft serve and Blizzards. The location, which will feature a drive-through, was confirmed at the Lakeway Zoning and Planning meeting Oct. 2. An opening date was not provided as of press time.

My dad was a good, not great writer - he's (unfortunately) let that passion of his slide.

Anytime Allsups comes up, though, I think of this fantastic sentence that he penned in his book.

DQ.  Based out of MN.  With a sign that has taken on the caricature of a Texas stop sign and so interwoven in the ethos of the state.  I can't think of another chain that comes even close?

Damn Breeders Cup ate up all of my football winnings.  Went from 10 units up to 7 down.....   recouped some of that today.  Hopefully Chiefs get me back to 10 down.

I missed the first race of the Pick 5 yesterday and got the next 4.  Eddie Olczyk his on a $5 trifecta for $2300.  I had been following him most of the day and just went with the Exacta.  $2100 difference in his payout and mine.  I was really needing two longshots to key with Thorpedo Anna and the same with Sierra Leone.  Just didn't come through but what a great day of racing.

We have Hibachio here in Midlo that took over an old DQ. It’s pretty good and they have multiple locations.

Went to get myself a blizzard last Thursday at the one on Jackson Keller in SA only to find that it has closed. That’s the only one reasonably close to my house. I sometimes hit the Blanco and Johnson City locations on my way through those towns. I doubt those are going anywhere due to lack of competition. I definitely didn’t need that blizzard so maybe it’s a good thing.

I love DQ but you have to go into it knowing you're looking at easily 30 minutes taken out of your car trip if you stop off.

DQ needs to start putting EV chargers in their parking lots for the ones out on the interstates in the middle of nowhere. Get people to charge their cars while waiting on their orders.

I read where those start at 10K each (for a decent Level 2) up to 100K for multiport.  Thats a lot of burgers and ice cream.

Also, their tacos are excellent. Not JITB good, but dang close.

Reese’s blizzard from DQ in Guadalajara.  Got completely hosed on toppings so I added a street churro.  I think I may have something here.

This article is a decade old, but I believe that Tesla actually pays the upfront costs:

Quote

For “prospective hosts” of Tesla Superchargers, the ask isn’t too steep: Tesla covers all costs, upfront and ongoing associated with installing supercharger stations, according to the documents obtained by TechCrunch. That covers maintenance, as well as power costs, with Tesla optionally offering to install a dedicated meter just for the charging station alone, from which the bill will go directly to Tesla itself.

The cost for Tesla is between $100,000 and $175,000 depending on the station, and a lot of those come from the permanent modifications needed at the site to support the Supercharger itself.

https://techcrunch.com/2013/07/26/inside-teslas-supercharger-partner-program-the-costs-and-commitments-of-electrifying-road-transport/

I remember looking into putting some at my law firm's building, but it didn't work because we would lose parking spots and we didn't get any financial benefit (law firms don't usually get walk-in clients). But the out of pocket was essentially zero to us IIRC. If your business model was something like restaurant, and you can make money off the people waiting and all you give up is parking spots you already have, it seems to make sense.

And yes, I get the Tesla hate. But their charing ports (NACS) is the industry standard going forward, so letting them do the permitting/install/maintenance/etc. to attract customers is a no-brainer.

Hah!  I like to stop at the 290 Brenham location on the way back and forth from Houston for a dip cone.  Sometimes it’s a five minute stop, sometimes it’s 30 minutes.   I tell the kids the randomness is a good way to be reminded of the instability in modern America.

My small town is so small it doens't have any of those, except for the DQ. I once sat in the drive through line and listened to an entire half of a high school football game on the radio. Only 12 minute quarters and no reviews but still. To be fair, their entire staff was probably at the game.

Sounds like you should also have been at the game.
