This after guaranteeing his contract yesterday. Go smaller, what the fuck, they do realize it doesn't work, right.

Why guarantee the contract if this was the plan?

Easterbunny, the Rockets character coach too?

Supposedly because he wasn't a complete shit in the locker room. Would love to get Kuzma from the Lakers for Tucker.

What about trading Gordon to the Celtics for nothing? They have that 27 million dollar trade exception. Get a 2nd round pick unlikely to convey. Any chance Boston would do that deal?  They need someone that isn’t absolutely horrible at PG. he might be able to clear that bar.
Maybe Gordon and tucker for a late first rounder?  Or a couple seconds?  Or just the trade exception?

1. trade oladipo to new york for their lottery protected first round pick.

2. trade tucker and parts (cousins, house, mclemore, really whatever miami wants) for precious achiuwa.

3. keep fucking losing.

get a little luck on lottery night and you have a top 4 pick and something like the 17th (knicks) and 25th (better of blazers/nets) picks.

go into next year with some new young pieces, suck again when they own their own pick and get another top 5 pick.

Yeah, I have no idea why they think playing small is going to work, especially when you are playing guards that really can't shoot the ball at a consistent level.

Just make Tate the de facto PG, and bench Wall. Wood can probably initiate the offense too. Gordon, Oladipo, Tucker, House, and McLemore you trade.

Time to bring up Porter, too.

Keep playing Wall. He still looks like an NBA player and as his contract gets shorter you may be able to unload him. It’s not like he’s the difference between wins and losses. C Wood needs to stay down.

John Wall's albatross contract. He won't be easy to unload. At least not now, especially since he's not the difference between wins and losses.

I really feel for Stephen Silas at this point.

Imagine signing on thinking you're going to coach a playoff team with dynamic players in Harden and Westbrook and ending up with a couple aging  players coming off major injuries and a bunch of fringe NBA players?

On top of that dealing with all the injuries and having to use 19 different starting lineups in the first 30 games.

Gar-bage.

Porter Jr. blowing up right now in the G League. 1st triple double of the season down there. Likely going to be Wall's backup after the G League schedule is over in Florida. I think I read he's also leading the GL in scoring right now.

great loss tonight!  only .5 game behind the cavs for the 3rd worst record in the league and the 3 worst teams all have the same odds of landing a top four pick.  keep it up!!

Are they taking Cunningham or Brown with the first pick?

Even as a bottom 3 team, the Rockets only have  a 52% chance of retaining their pick.

its by far their best possible option this year.

also, another way of looking at it is should they finish with a bottom three record, no team in the league has a better shot at landing the #1 pick than they do.

Don't they have a 100% chance of keeping their pick if they finish with one of the 3 worst records? I thought those teams can't fall out of the Top 4, which is where the protection on the swap with OKC ends.

So I got a notification tonight that said the tickets offered Oladipo a contract extension that he turned down?

That really confused me on what direction the rockets are wanting to go? My assumption like everyone else is the rockets should tank and get as many draft picks or good young prospects as possible and then they offer a extension to a guy that has massively underwhelmed and clearly doesn’t want to be here. So not sure what the fuck the front office is actually wanting to do. Just trade everyone that you can get a good return on and keep wood and see what can happen.

Houston Rockets guard Victor Oladipo recently turned down a two-year, $45.2 million maximum contract extension, the most the franchise could offer him before summer free agency, sources told ESPN.

As expected, Oladipo is pursuing a longer-term deal, sources said, something that the collective bargaining agreement doesn't allow the Rockets to offer him until the offseason.

Oladipo is in the final year of a four-year, $85 million contract, which leaves the Rockets with decisions to make prior to the March 25 trade deadline -- including whether they'll make him available in trade talks. The transitional state of the Rockets' roster makes it likely they'll listen to overtures as they continue to get to know Oladipo -- and he gets to know them -- since the mid-January trade that brought him from Indiana as part of the James Harden blockbuster.

For the Rockets, amid a post-Harden and Russell Westbrook era, there are a number of options with Oladipo, including weighing his value in the trade deadline marketplace, committing to aggressively pursuing a long-term deal in the summer, working with Oladipo on getting value back in sign-and-trade talks in the offseason or letting him walk to use the cap space on other players in free agency.

It is typical that teams become more focused in pursuing trades closer to the deadline, which is still a little less than four weeks away. Houston has yet to engage with teams on trade talks involving Oladipo, sources said.

Nevertheless, Oladipo, 28, has the chance to become one of the best two-way players available at the trade deadline or free agency. Miami and New York are among teams who've had an interest in Oladipo, and both have the salary-cap space to sign him outright in the summer.

Before the start of free agency, Houston would be able to offer him as much as a four-year, $113 million extension; once free agency comes, Houston can offer up to four years for $151 million, or five years for $195 million.

Oladipo has averaged 18.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 13 games with the Rockets this season. For his nine-year career, including stops with Orlando, Oklahoma City and Indiana, he has averaged 17.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Oladipo has also shown the ability to be a top defender.

49 point loss tonight. We might need to make our plans a little less obvious going forward

Well, we still are playing Wall, House, Tucker, and Gordon. They just suck and likely don't care, though Wall at least says he does during press conferences.

I don't even think this team is intentionally tanking....I think they're just that bad.

I've never seen a team get down by 15 points in the 1st quarter more routinely than these dudes.

He definitely did the Rockets a solid, but why did make the offer in the first place?

They knew he’d decline it, for one.

Oladipo can re-sign with the Rockets for 4 years during the exclusive portion of free agency and 5 years during the open portion.  He’s coming off a career-changing injury and presumably wants something long term (plus this may be his one chance to cash-in unless he wants to resign on a one year deal and try again next year).

He’s also a very movable chip on a two year deal; with a four year deal he’s more movable than Gordon but not by much.

Eric?

Como?  Gordon's contract has negative surplus value if you need me to clarify where my sympathies may lie.  I didn't understand that extension at the time and it looks worse in hindsight.

nope.  top 4 picks are picked via the lottery.  after that, it goes by record.  3rd worst record could end up with the 7th overall pick.

Yes would require the worst record in the NBA to guarantee top 4..

Not anymore. The top 4 is a lottery process so all the worst record in the league guarantees is the #5 pick...
