This Disney deal is just pure incompetence by team meatball. Not having people attending meetings and keeping an eye on things was dropping the ball. If this is how meatball is going to run his circus, he has a looooooong way to go

This is how it always is with GQP fucks. Make a lot of noise and spend time with buzzwords at press conferences then get fucking owned by competent people. The bullshit they do only works at school board meetings

GoP won’t be able to shop around for a judge either, per the new agreement in place everything goes to a local Orange County court. Orange County is about 60% Dem

The clause extending the agreement to 20 years after death of the last current descendant of King Charles was cute, but I would have gone with 20 years after the last child of the current governor or their descendant. I suppose charles’ grandkids are a bit younger than DeSantis but it would pack a better punch.

but seriously, it’s bs if any govt agency can build in irrevocable stipulations that have a ~100 year shelf life. Would everyone here be accepting if Abbott started enacting 100 year laws or administrative orders that couldn’t be changed?

He signs laws and administrative orders all the time that have no expiration date.

But those can be overturned by future governors and/or legislatures if not state constitution votes.

Disney is attempting to make their changes irrevocable by future (or now current) reedy creek board members. I like seeing Disney stick it to DeSantis but this is bad govt.

It's Big Government on the part of DeSantis is what it is, and Disney only did this after DeSantis and the State of Florida tried to move in and fuck with them because he was angry about their pro-LGBTQ views.

DeSantis thought he was going to be able to do things like slow-roll future expansions, shut down any gay pride parades/events, etc., which is the epitome of the Republican Big Government mindset.

If you don't think that the far right isn't watching this and will use this tactic as well, you haven't been paying attention.

I understand the necessity for long term laws/policies but it doesn't mean that higher govt officials or agencies shouldn't have the right to alter those laws or policies. I also don't agree that DeSantis should be able to appoint his people to a local board that controls a local district. That's the epitome of tyranny of the majority.

I understand your point but the far right will use these tactics any way regardless of what Disney does.  They are the ones who started this shit and decided on a "win at any cost" and fuck decorum trajectory.   You don't bring a knife to a gun fight so now that the gloves are off, it is appropriate to use the exact same tactics.  If they end up defeating them, then good, now we have a road map to defeat their bullshit laws.  If not, them maybe they will tire of the BS and we can go back to treating the political theater as something less than a blood sport.

Rarely do I find myself on the side of Big Corp. but I’m this case, DeSantis earned every big of this.

Off the top of my head, today's GOP has resulted in me taking the sides of Disney, Nike, and the NFL. I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting.

Crazy pills.

There's no way that a DeSantis voter AND a true Floridian...in a Waffle House...is that articulate.

Try a little harder.

These seems like a pretty narrow area of application. As mentioned laws passed are generally in effect unless and until repealed. Can you give us an example where the far right could use this tactic?

Yeah but fuck DeSantis. He deserves every bit of embarrassment. Imagine you're a gay teacher in Florida and what you know get to go through because of him.

I don't like govt agencies deploying perpetual rules (and yes, 100 years is effectively perpetual) but I never mind DeSantis looking like a fool, even more than usual.

Well, this really isn't a government agency. It's a public-private partnership like any special-use district. Disney just took advantage of having better lawyers and set it up so Meatball would have to try something more extreme. He's already threatened more action because of course he can't accept that Disney owned his ass.

DeSantis looks like a fool. This was simple. Did he really not have a plan for it?

The fact that he was out there acting like he'd risk legal repercussions for trying to help Trump avoid indictment while Trump is actively spending money trashing him makes him look like the lowest of the lowest boot lickers.

This is worse than what Trump did to Ted Cruz, including trashing Ted's father and making fun of Heidi's looks and mental health issues.

DeSantis should have been saying "I support President Trump's right to pay off porn stars and I support President Trump's right to have his day in court and I will not stand in the way of President Trump trying to clear himself."

The response from Trump would have been the same regardless of whether DeSantis defended him or took a cheap blow at him.

if abbott was in charge of an area including and surrounding a huge theme park and nothing else, i think people would probably be fine with it.  that's what we're talking about, right?  they gave disney their own jurisdiction and now they're trying to interfere with it.  disney was there a long time before desantis and it'll still be there when he's worm food.

from what i saw, disney didn't get shitty with it until they got fucked with.  that's what happens.

That’s still my favorite track on the Trump Greatest Hits album.

I disagree. He's doing the only thing that he can do. He has to thread the needle. He knows that he probably needs some of MAGA to win the primary, and he needs all of MAGA to win the general. MAGA doesn't respond to rational things like "He deserves his day in court." He has to say stupid shit like "No extradition from my state!"

DeSantis is praying that Trump's crimes are serious enough to allow him to win the primary (good fucking luck) without saying anything negative about Trump. Then, after that, he can use Trump as a martyr and talk about finishing his work, pardoning him, and ending these conservative witch hunts once and for all. (All while Trump is probably continuing to mock him relentlessly.)

Should be fun to watch.

The only path to the WH for Desantis is trump dead or behind bars. If he’s alive and campaigning he wins the nomination. At this point I’d say it’s 50-50 whether Desantis declares
