7th straight win against a ranked opponent. Are we final 4 good?

We'll get a better picture on Sunday. Almost impossible to make it to the final four without facing a SEC team. They're trying to get around ten teams in to the tournament.

Facing Florida, last season's champion. But they lost four players from that team-2 to graduation, 1 going pro, and another got kicked off the team in the middle of this year

They are going to play a reverse format. Singles first, then doubles if necessary. Looks like Marta-Perez is injured/ill so Dani Wagland will be in the singles lineup today.

On the twitter account, it showed Marta practicing yesterday. Maybe the coaches saw something in Dani during practice to start her today.

Scary thing is our top players are a So, So, So, FR, JR, FR.

Any chance a couple go pro early?

Doubt it. It's a huge step up to play pro tennis week in and week out. Bianca would be the only one who can achieve some sustainable results right now and even then she sometimes doesn't make it out of the qualifying draws of the low level tournaments.

Some players that did turn pro (Di Lorenzo at Ohio State and Lewis at LSU) got huge government funding to do so.

Match in Ft. Worth today against TCU. Should be fairly routine as long as we're not looking forward to our big road test @ #15 Texas Tech this Sunday.

TCU's top player didn't play in their last match. If she's still injured today, then today should be an easier than normal road win

Huge win by Marta! Gutsy play against a senior playing on Senior Day.

Don't want to look too far ahead but Texas is most likely going to host the first two rounds. Good chance that the committee will ship the Aggies and the Rice Owls (currently on the bubble) to Austin.

Matches against the two weakest Big 12 teams this weekend....can clinch the number one seed for the conference tournament and share of regular season title with the wins

Honestly these are the matches that I want to see us get through with no injuries. Maybe Wagland, Labrana, or Crovetti will see some court time?

Huge match against Baylor this Friday at home.

What's at stake?

  • A win would give UT the outright Big 12 regular season title. First since 2004
  • A win would be our first over the Bears since 2012. They have won the last 5 meetings
  • A win keeps us in the running for one of the 4 #1 seeds in the NCAA tournament.

Well...Texas does have last year's Baylor volunteer coach on the coaching staff. Maybe she can give some inside pointers haha

Baylor has been switching around their lineup a lot this year mostly because they don't have a line 1 or 2 player that can win consistently.

Also on the line this match is Texas is still undefeated this year when they're playing outdoors.

If you noticed, Poluta wasn't at the Baylor match......for the past week and a half, she was in Montenegro representing her native country South Africa in Fed Cup!

That's a pretty big honor. She basically played the second line for her country. (Sadly South Africa basically only has one professional women's player.) Helped South Africa to advance to the higher group.

Poluta also pushed a former top 100 player to three sets. This was on clay, so quite an adjustment to do in the middle of the season.

Woops my mistake it was top 400 not 100 but impressive otherwise

Technically, Van Zyl at Baylor and Hattingh at Arizona State are higher rated than Poluta as far as South African players. Don't know if they were ever considered but let's just say Texas has more depth than those teams to cover an absence like this.
