Post the clip, I haven’t seen it.

Look, Daniel is my favorite driver but the fact of the matter is that he’s been out-qualified and outperformed by Lando this season. He was under real pressure to respond and, unsurprisingly, he has which is great because as a McLaren fan I want to beat Ferrari and he has to be at the front to do that. The point is that Lando Norris is beating his more experienced, race winning, and extremely fast teammate because he’s already grown up as a driver. He’s slowly but surely entrenched himself at McLaren as a real team leader and they are moving toward the front of the grid together. A couple of years ago he was a fast kid with a cool name that went backwards at the start. Now he’s a silly gamble on tires in Russia away from converting from pole position. Now it’s up to McLaren to give him, and Daniel, a consistent, race winning car.

Since summer break, Daniel has been the better driver, but Lando really outdrove him before then.  I hope they continue driving this way and that McLaren gets them a better car because they are a very talented driver duo.  Really want to see them on the podium regularly.

Ehhh idk about that. Lando’s been better at the majority of tracks since summer, but Danny has seemingly improved. You also have to remember Daniel has a new engine while Lando appears to be attempting to stretch his engines through the season, so Danny should have better performance right now.

Danny has out-pointed Lando 55 to 36 since summer break, although that includes Lando's massive Sochi fuckup.  They've both been running well.  Just want it to continue.  Danny only had 50 points prior to summer break.

I'd say it has more to do with him being in the same car for 3 years, especially when we should be running the new spec car this season were it not for COVID.  Not to mention, that since COVID, they have been even more restricted with seat time.

Next season both should be on much more equal terms to start the season, but Lando leading shouldn't be a surprise if he is as good a driver as we think he is with exponentially more seat time in an uber developed car (see Max and Checo).

Lando is that good/starting to be great, and It's why DR couldn't just stroll in and put down better lap times.

I like Lando fine, but next year I expect Ricciardo to out-perform Lando pretty much every week.

is this because you think not much of Lando or you think a lot of Daniel?

or some combo where the next car is closer to what Daniel likes + Lando doesn't have a multi-year head start on him?

Lando's a very good driver in his own right.  I seem them being more like LeClerc/Sainz and being relatively even.  They just need a better car.

Some combo.  I think Lando's a good driver, but there's no denying the huge head start he had in the current car.  And I think Ricciardo is one of the very best, when he's in a good car that he knows.  I don't think it's any coincidence that since the summer break, Ric is driving much better than he did previously, and is out-performing Lando.  A lot of us expected  both Ricciardo and Alonso to take some time to adjust to their new cars, and their new teams.

Lando's good, for sure.  I don't think they're completely even, if they have the same level of experience in the car and with the team.  But of course, time will tell.

And personally I like Ricciardo a lot, and I actually like Zak Brown, but as a Ferrari fan, I have no love for McLaren. I'd much rather see Ferrari take the necessary steps and become a better team than Merc or RBR.

Ferrari finishing every race 1-2, with either Danny or Fred taking third, would be AOK with me. :)

Here's COTA's response today to the people they took $210 from & then failed to deliver service as promised in the Lot Q fiasco. A $60 refund and a $150 credit toward next year. Unbelievable, really, for anyone else, but it's such a perfectly typical & predictable COTA response.

What the hell is that line -- "some never arrived as contracted, and some were lured away by resourceful, cash-paying commuters."

Uh, what? That's what you're putting in an email to thousands of people?

"Your bus didn't arrive, but hey, cash talks. Am I right?"

That's called a line of bullshit. And who were these 'cash-paying commuters' anyway? That story sounds utterly fabricated, but then fabrication is COTA's bread & butter, year in, and year out. Say something that nobody can prove is false, then keep fucking that chicken.

And yeah, the lack of professionalism in that statement is very revealing about COTA, but not unexpected. The Autosport guys were talking about that as well.  One Autosport poster who is in the event industry responded, saying that he does 25-30 big events annually, and in a situation like what COTA is claiming, they would just immediately refund all of the customers' money and then go after the contractor. And that's what any legitimate enterprise would do. Indeed, given COTA's extremely litigious nature, I'm certain that if the contractor is actually at fault, COTA's lawyers were working on the lawsuit the very next day.

From what some of the tweets etc that I was seeing, other Park & Ride lots around town worked great, and Lot Q was the only one with major problems with the shuttles. People using the other ones reported having plenty of buses - even many more than were needed. COTA simply managed the logistics poorly, as it seems they did in numerous other areas of the weekend.

I dunno where y'all are getting that, but no, it's not gonna be a parking lot race a la Caesar's. They're serious about it. It's going to be a street race somewhere near or even including portions of the Strip. The casino companies want to showcase Vegas and are still weighing different configuration & location options. Confirmed again just now.

And btw, I'm not a big fan of street races, either, but if it's street races or no races? I say bring on the street races. And until we see them race on it, we don't know the street race is gonna suck. Everyone told us Baku was gonna suck ... and Baku doesn't suck.

@wood I love you man, but your hatred of all things COTA, seems to result in positivity for other things that are going to really, really suck.  It's a blind spot for you.  I get it, but... no, just no.

I'll believe the Las Vegas course doesn't completely suck, if I ever see it not suck.  The terrain doesn't leave much to work with and Baku is absolutely the exception and not the rule.

And Miami?  Good Lord, it really does look like Sochi2.0 to me.  No fucking thanks.

The race courses once complete can change my mind, but not one moment before then, will I think they're anything other than hot garbage.

I'd get excited for F1 back at Watkins Glen.  Like, really REALLY excited.  But Las Vegas, Miami, Indy?  Nah....

LOL. Calm down. You're mistaking my 'wait & see' attitude for some kind of unbridled positivity. Where did I say Vegas was gonna be awesome? Or Miami?

My Vegas talk has nothing to do with COTA and everything to do with a Vegas F1 deal having already been signed for 2023. None of us knows if it will suck, or be mediocre, or be awesome. I know I don't know, but neither does anyone else ... so I'll just wait & see.

That's one thing I've definitely learned over the years watching F1 go to new tracks. Some new tracks seem promising and don't deliver. For some new tracks, everyone says there's zero chance, no passing, yada yada, and it turns out to actually have good racing. I remember when COTA was being planned, we were told ad nauseum from every corner of the globe that even if it ever got built, it was most definitely going to suck, because what does some Texan who spent a minute in F3 and pushed a broom for Bernie know about building an F1 track. Seems like they were wrong, too.

Ex.

Run it on Friday instead of P2. Extend P1. Then run Saturday and Sunday as normal.

So they would run the Sprint... and then qualifying? So the sprint would have no bearing on the weekend other than having the 3/2/1 points awarded?

~25% of races w/ a sprint quali?

i assume there are going to be some changes to the setup? because otherwise it's a waste of time for everyone involved. i don't hate them like everyone else does, but as it stands they are just not that great

F1 plans 'show and tell' sessions on car updates in 2022
www.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-plans-show-and-tell-sessions-on-car-updates-in-2022/6734921/

Quote

Revised sporting regulations for next year already stipulate teams have to declare a 'reference specification' for each race weekend ahead of opening practice, which must then be used from final free practice onwards.

With teams needing therefore to declare new components to the FIA each weekend to comply with the new scrutineering requirements, Liberty sees no reason why any tech developments cannot be made public.

Speaking on Monday, Brawn said that a core element on Friday mornings in 2022 would be of teams making personnel and their cars available to go through any updates.

"What we're doing on a Friday is a big session for you guys [the media] to have a look at the cars and talk to the personnel," explained Brawn.

"We're pushing on with initiatives to get greater engagement and a greater insight into what's happening.

"So next year, on a Friday morning, the cars will be presented to you. The teams will explain the changes they've made for that weekend and they'll declare to the FIA the changes they've made.

I'm guessing the F1 press won't like it much, as they'd probably rather spot updates themselves & get exclusive stories out of it. It does seem like it will kill a bit of the intrigue & mystery. This seems like a bit more of the dumbing down of F1 we've been seeing, imho.

It’s Rawe Ceek folks! The consensus is RB should have a significant pace advantage on Merc, but things have rarely worked as expected this year. It would be huge if Perez could snag second.

This should be one of Ferrari’s best tracks in the second half of the season. It’ll be interesting to see how close they can get to the RBs and Mercs on pace. I don’t think they can beat them on pace, but they might be close enough to take advantage of chaos ensues.

I expect McLaren will be a clear 4th and Danny Ric is usually pretty good in Mexico.

AMus is reporting Lando is a candidate to take an engine penalty this week depending on qualifying. That would be a big blow to McLaren as Ferrari have a good shot of pulling in 20+ points this week.

It’s also possible Leclerc passes Lando for 5th in the driver standings if Lando has to take an engine penalty at some point.

F1 tv already points out most of the changes with fancy graphics at some point during fp1 or 2, so i doubt there's as much exclusivity or scoop as you're leading on.

Guys post photos immediately on Thursday morning, & write articles, tweets, etc, as soon as the cars can be seen. TV can't do that. There are several who pride themselves on it and are known for that being one of their specialties, using photos to point out & describe new updates (sometimes unexpected ones). They beat everyone else to the punch, & most fans don't even see F1TV. They don't beat tv by a lot, but they tend to be more thorough and descriptive than tv, & their articles & tweets get a lot of play. It's no loss for me, but it's something they use to set themselves apart, generate clicks, followers, etc, that I'm sure they'd rather not lose.

I guess Bobby better belly up to the bargaining table and agree to whatever concessions F1 wants, pdq.

Could be. Or maybe Stubhub just got it wrong? And the State of Texas is paying COTA enough for it that maybe they want to name the race as well.

One funny/sad thing about the State Texas having paid close to $300 Million for its race is that the State of Florida is paying $0 and stilling getting the benefit. And both Governors have Presidential aspirations & will likely come up against each other for the next Republican nomination.

I don't worry nearly as much as you do about the State of Texas subsidy.  I mean sure, Bobby Epstein is a grimy little pimp that fudges the numbers, but there's no doubt that the event is bringing in substantially more than the state is spending, which is the entire point of the subsidy.

TX-OU weekend is estimated to bring in almost $40M to the city of Dallas, and that's an event that a huge number of people day-trip for.  I'd be surprised if even a lightly attended USGP at COTA doesn't bring in twice that to COTA+Austin+surrounding areas.
